MARVEL Future Revolution Companions Guide: Everything You Need to Know About the Companion System

Netmarble’s MARVEL Future Revolution makes it a challenge for its players to get enough of everything it has to offer even at launch. With its plethora of daily challenges to conquer; numerous features to tinker with; and special events to enjoy and revel in, the time players spend in MARVEL Future Revolution’s world is further extended by the squad system. Playing as any of the 7 other heroes in addition to your lead hero not only multiplies the fun factor as doing so also contributes to increasing your squad power.

If being able to play as 8 different heroes in the Marvel Universe and mixing and matching costumes and gears for them is not enough to keep players invested, the introduction of the companion system in MARVEL Future Revolution’s recent update further adds to the mix of its offerings.

Along with the launch of the special invasion that features The Eternals, the companion feature lets players recruit, upgrade, and summon powerful allies to aid them in battle. The roster of companions to recruit is not just limited to members of The Eternals available within the event period, but showcases some NPCs players have interacted with in the main campaign world.

If you have just started diving into MARVEL Future Revolution’s world, we have published several guides you should peek into first before continuing with this one. For starters, our beginner’s guide covers all the basic tips and strategies you need to have a running start on your adventure. We have an advanced guide that can help you further raise your hero’s level and power fast and efficiently as well as a separate strategy guide to help you continue to grow in power after reaching the level cap.

While we can say to some extent that we love each of the 8 available heroes you can have in your squad in MARVEL Future Revolution, their unique stats and skill sets leave some of them more appealing in either PvE or PvP combat than others. As such we ranked them down based on general gameplay types in our MARVEL Future Revolution tier list. Each of the 8 characters you can play as in MARVEL Future Revolution can be built in a number of ways and each player using the same hero potentially has a unique build based on their preference and available resources.

If you need some ideas on what to go for in terms of end builds for each character, we recommend that you visit both our PvE build guide as well as our PvP build guide.

In this new guide, we will be exclusively focusing on the recently installed companion system in MARVEL Future Revolution. Although the current special invasion event involving The Eternals brings about special companions that have limited availability, there are numerous other rare and common companions you can recruit and develop.

Understand The Basics

marvel future revolution companion

To some extent, the companions in MARVEL Future Revolution is comparable to the pet systems conventional MMORPGs have. Companions not only provide stat boosts and other passive bonuses, but they can also be summoned in combat to assist the hero with various abilities.

The companions in MARVEL Future Revolution can only be summoned for a short period of time but after the cool down period, can be summoned as many times as needed within combat. Companions do not have their own HP and cannot be targeted by an enemy’s attacks. Reasonably enough, they cannot serve as shields as well and are practically invisible to enemies.

Companions in MARVEL Future Revolution are shared across every member of your squad. This means that you can use the same set of companions across all your heroes but choose to set them up differently each time. Each hero can equip up to 4 different companions but will only be able to summon the companion lodged on the first slot in battle.

To check on the list of companions, view important details on each one, or upgrade them, you can click on the newly-added “Companions” menu under the Squad option. You will be presented with a list of all existing companions in the game, highlighting those that you have already unlocked.

Companions are basically classified into 3 different rarity grades: normal, rare, and special. Almost naturally, you can expect that higher grade companions offer better perks and have better skills but in some cases, the best companion may not necessarily be the companion for your hero. In any case, there is value in recruiting each companion as they provide collection bonuses as well.

Companions can be summoned on almost every game mode in MARVEL Future Revolution. You can expect to take them with you in the campaign missions, of course. Under the Operations game modes, you can use them in Blitz, Raid, and Battle Challenges. You can summon them within any arena game mode as well as special event battles.

Through the companion draw feature in the shop as well as other sources of companion shards, you can obtain 1 to 3-star versions of the companion, less likely from sources other than the companion draw. Just like most items in MARVEL Future Revolution, companions can be upgraded all the way to 6 stars. Rare grade companions provide a bonus option once they reach 5 stars, while special companions unlock bonus options when they reach 5 stars and again at 6 stars.

List Of Companions

There are currently 29 available companions you can recruit in MARVEL Future Revolution. 15 of them are common, 6 are rare, and 8 are special in terms of rarity grade. Although each companion provides different amounts of ATK, DEF, and HP bonus stats when equipped, stat boosts obtained from higher rarity companions are expectedly better.

Upgrading Companions

Being able to recruit companions to earn their collection stat bonuses and equipping 4 of them for fixed stat bonuses should already be an appreciated perk of having them. As is, even at the lowest star grade, having these added perks can greatly help you in your daily endeavors within the world of MARVEL Future Revolution.

Surely enough, however, you would expect that there is more be gained from your companion characters through available upgrade and enhancement features relating to them. MARVEL Future Revolution actually provides 3 different ways of making your companions stronger.

marvel future revolution common companion

Just like for each hero in your squad, the most basic way of enhancing a companion is by levelling them up. Companions will not earn EXP through combat and their level caps are based on their star grades. You can perform upgrades on any companion you have recruited by clicking on the “Manage” button on their page.

You can then tap the “Level Up” button and choose companion EXP cards to consume to give the companion EXP. Each new level reached by a companion will increase the fixed effect (ATK, DEF, HP) that they provide when equipped. Reaching certain levels also increase their maximum skill level.

Once the companion has reached the minimum required level to be able to level up his or her skill level, you can click on the “Enhance Skill” button under the “Skill” tab of the companion’s info. Skill upgrades require the consumption of companion skill cards as well as gold. Note that skill upgrades will only effect values relative to the skill and will not have added effects on the stat boosts that the companion provides.

enhancing summon skill in marvel future revolution

Last, and the most challenging of all upgrades, is the star promotion of companions. While you can recruit companions straight from drawing from the shop, other means usually only net you companion shards. Recruiting the same companion from the shop draws beyond the first will also automatically convert recruited characters into shards.

If you are already an experienced RPG player or have played some gacha games before, then you should already know that obtaining a duplicate is actually ideal especially in the case of special rarity companions.

A star promotion for companions require shards of a specific companion. This means that, for example, you need a lot of Bob, Agent of Hydra shards to take him to the next star grade. Promoting any companion to the next star grade comes with stat boosts as well and affects the collection stat bonuses that companions provide.

Beyond that, you need a companion to be at least at 3 stars to be able to summon them in combat and utilize their summon skill. Reaching 5 stars in the case of rare companions and 5 and 6 stars in the case of special companions will unlock additional bonus perks.

You can expect that while enhancement resources will be earned on a regular basis in MARVEL Future Revolution, exercising prudence will always be the best way to go considering the number of each resource is needed to perform any of the mentioned upgrades. It is also a given that that the number of required resource materials will increase as the companion’s level, skill level, or star grade increases.

marvel future revolution companion shard

One thing to keep in mind is that while special grade companions are naturally the most sought after, you should not plan your builds around them much, especially if you are a free player. MARVEL Future Revolution is generous enough to provide free tickets you can use to recruit even the special grade companions but probabilities and the required number of shards to even take them to 3 stars will be very challenging to say the least.

As far as companion shards go, you should feel free to take any of them to the next level if you have sufficient shards. Remember that a higher star grade increases the collection stat bonuses, which will benefit not just your lead hero but the whole squad as well. For the companion EXP cards, it is best to conserve them primarily for the hero you will summon, and then the next 3 companions you will always equip on your lead hero.

Relative to this, banking on rare and common companions is recommended as each companion’s level cap is dependent on his or her star grade. Since you will only be able to utilize one of your companion’s summon skill at a time, focus only on using the companion skill cards on the characters whom you feel have skills that you will actually use in combat, prioritizing those companions you use with your lead hero, of course.

And that sums up all the information and tips we have about companions in MARVEL Future Revolution. We certainly hope that you have learned a great deal from what you have read and that you enjoyed it a lot as well. MARVEL Future Revolution will most certainly grow bigger with each new update and we can all expect more added features and improvements on it later on.
