Anime fans rejoice as NetEase, Hero Game, and Dino Entertainment recently launched Extraordinary Ones for Android users in South East Asia. The closed beta test commenced in April of this year and more than a million players have pre-registered. The game is an anime-themed multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game with five players of two teams battling it out to see who is the best. Popular games of this genre for mobile devices include Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Arena of Valor, and Vainglory to name a few. Other than the anime style graphics, Extraordinary Ones also includes famous Japanese voice actors such as Natsuki Hanae, Osaka Ryota, and Sho Hayami.
Extraordinary Ones takes place in a school setting where heroes or characters are composed of students, professors, and even school personnel with unique skills. It is very reminiscent of the anime My Hero Academia which has the same premise of a high school filled with young people possessing superhuman abilities. The map or arena applies this theme as well because you will see hallways, blackboards, track and field lanes, a basketball court, and more instead of the usual terrain you see in a typical MOBA.
The gameplay and controls are similar to other MOBA games, as it consists of a joystick on the left side and skill buttons on the right side of the screen. You have to protect your base and towers, which are the Principal’s Office and Turret Coaches in the game, and also destroy the opposing team’s while engaging them in battle. What separates this from the rest other than the aesthetic is the launch pad near your main tower that flings you to the forefront tower in the direction you choose. The in-game bosses also exist as the Big Boss Cat and the Chest Rune.
Players familiar with MOBA gaming will definitely love the new feel and atmosphere of Extraordinary Ones, while those who are anime fans but haven’t played anything similar will love this game as well. In this Extraordianry Ones beginner’s guide, you will find out how to become the best and how to make sure you get that win with the help of our tips, cheats and strategies. Keep on reading to find out how you can dominate your enemies and easily win battles in this fantastic MOBA.
1. Focus On One Hero First
When you first start the game, you get to choose from three heroes which are Ginny, Arthur, and Sandy. After choosing, the game will take you to a trial match where you are shown the basics of the game. Here you’ll get to know how to navigate, familiarize yourself with the map, and learn about the skills of your chosen character. Although you might still feel in the dark about other things, this step is still essential in getting to know what’s happening around you.
Right after the first match, you will once again be prompted to go to battle. This time there’s no more tutorial pop ups, and you’ll be in a real match with other players of the same level. Before you start, you will be asked to choose a hero. It’s best to use the hero you previously used because you somewhat have an idea of this character’s skills already. Using another hero will just get you back to square one.
This is especially true for beginners as there are a variety of characters to choose from and also since they’re still getting the hang of things like the mechanics of Extraordinary Ones. Focusing on one hero will allow you to discover what their max abilities are. You’ll also be able to get used to playing characters with the same role. From there, you can branch off to other roles that you feel you can understand well.
2. Know How Each Hero Works
As previously mentioned, Extraordinary Ones has a wide variety of heroes you can play. Each of these heroes have special roles that you must know in order to understand how to use a certain hero or even your enemies. These roles are similar to other MOBAs but are just named differently in this game. These roles include: Tank, AD, ASN, AP, ADC, and SUP.
As the name suggests, the Tank has survivability meaning it has high HP and high defense. Tanks are often used as shields and are mostly the frontrunner in every battle. AD means Attack Damage and these characters specialize in melee battles or close combat fights. These characters are also known as the Fighter role in other games. ASN are heroes that possess high attack and high speed. This is the Assassin/Ganker role in other games. AP or Ability Power and these heroes deal powerful magical abilities rather than attacks. This is the Mage role in other games.
ADC means Attack Damage Carry which is also the Marksman role. These heroes have ranged attacks, high attack damage, but are usually not agile enough. Lastly, SUP means support which is generally the healer of the group.
Other than roles, there are sub categories for each hero. These specialties include: Poke, Dash, Reap, First Strike, Group Buff, Crowd Control, Restore and Counter. Poke is a specialty that allows a hero to deal long range attacks. Dash is when heroes can move from one location to another quickly. Reap is a hero that specializes in finishing off an enemy with low or half health. First Strike is similar to an initiator who usually starts the fights and is in the frontlines. Group Buff is a specialty where a hero has abilities that help others in the team.
Crowd Control are heroes that has slow or stun abilities that controls the enemy. Restore are heroes that have abilities to restore their own HP or mana. Counter is a specialty that deals damage to an enemy when you get hit. Now that you know each role and specialty, you can now check out which hero you think you’re suitable with. Each hero can have one or two roles and have one or more specialty. You can see the list of all heroes and even separate them by role by tapping on the Hero button on the main screen.
3. Understand Your Role Well
Other than knowing how each hero works, you also need to understand your chosen role as well. To get the maximum results, you need to use a hero that you’re most comfortable with. If you’re comfortable using a Tank, you need to know how tough your character is and how much damage your character can take in order to know how long you can engage in battle. If you’re more of a Mage and Support, you should know when to use your spells at the right time and place.
To get the best output, you should team up with players that know how to balance a team and complement each other’s roles. Roles in a team should vary. For example, it’s going to be difficult to head on to battle if your team has no Support or Tank. Or if a player has already chosen a Marksman, don’t get too greedy and choose a Marksman as well. This is why it’s best to first play with people you know so that you can all agree beforehand which heroes to use.
Although there isn’t really a specific way of knowing what happens in a game, understanding your role is very important and definitely helps a lot while playing. You need to know where to position yourself and be aware of your surroundings. Know when to assist your team or take on bosses for benefit of your whole group. Fully understanding your role in a team will make it easier for you and your teammates to engage in fights and win.
4. Teamwork Is Very Important
Playing with other people will always need communication which is very important when it comes to teamwork. This one is essential in MOBA games since you play as a team. Without communication, you will have no idea what other people are doing and this might cost you the match. You need to know what your team’s strategy is, where to attack, who needs assistance, and more.
As previously mentioned, it is best to play with people you already know as not only can you balance your team roles, you can also communicate more effectively if you play with someone you know. You also have an idea how to play or work with your friends. If you don’t have friends who play the game, at least play with someone in-game who you have played before. Doing this is especially good for newbies in the game as people you know can guide you well without the toxic language that’s usually involved in games like this.
If you are the shy type, you can always use the communication pings for the game which are placed at the right side of the screen. Tapping on these will either make your team push, fall back, or regroup. There is also a chat option where you can send messages and even emojis to communicate with your team.
Of course, in the actual battle, you should know your positioning and understand your role like what was mentioned in the previous tip. Tanks should always go in the frontlines, as well as the Initiators, and attack first. While the others need to wait before engaging into battles with enemies. Don’t be too greedy and go head on to fight your enemies without waiting for your tank, unless you already have enough gears. Be wise and always wait for reinforcements to come before doing anything. For spellcasters, always make sure you time your attacks right as this can be vital to the tide of the game.
5. Be Familiar With The Map
At the beginning, you will be introduced to the map and its surroundings. It’s basically the same map layout in other MOBAs where there is a top, middle, and bottom areas. For Extraordinary Ones, there’s the bases, the battle lanes, the tracks, and the club training area. Bases can be found on both sides of the map. This is where you’ll find the Principal’s Office that you need to destroy in order to win. Battle lanes are where battles are mostly held and where your turrets and your enemy’s turrets are placed. On the tracks, you will find items that can add a buff and give you coins. This is also where you’ll find the boss which is similar to a Lord that will help you attack the enemy once defeated. The club training area is where you can challenge a club leader to be stronger.
Always try to take a look at the map whenever you can. You’ll be able to see where your teammates are and where the enemies are located. You will have an idea which lanes need defending and which enemies are pushing towards that tower. Once this happens, you can signal your teammates to assemble at that area using the pings or through chat. It’s best to keep on glancing at the map as much as possible. Doing this is a huge help and gives you an idea of what’s happening during a match.
6. Prioritize Towers Before Kills
In a game where kill counts mean a lot, this is probably an unfamiliar concept to players who just wants a lot of kills. Remember, the goal of this game is to destroy the enemy’s base. To do that, you need to destroy the Turret Coaches as well. A lot of times a player will prioritize killing enemies and forget the main goal. Getting rid of a turret will make things easier for you and your team. Don’t be too greedy for kills and be too aggressive when facing an enemy near their turret. Avoid jumping in and doing a tower dive as this makes your own turret vulnerable to their attacks. Only do this if you’re confident enough that you can kill the enemy without getting slayed by the turret’s high damage attacks.
7. Choose Your Gears Wisely
Each hero has their own gears that help enhance their abilities and stats. You can see all gears for your hero by going to the hero menu and tapping on the hero of your liking. From there, tap on Gear Up to view all gears. Selecting a gear will enable you to see what it does. This is also where you can plan your gears. Since you have no idea of what will happen in a match, you need to change your gears depending on what happens.
If you are unsure of which gears to choose from, you can always use the recommended gears and start from there. If you’ve decided to stick to a hero, you will need to know what each gear does in order to maximize your hero’s ability. Once in game, you can also sell a gear that you currently have so that you can purchase a better one. You can do this by tapping on the golden cat icon at the left side of the screen while in battle.
