Torchlight: Infinite Tier List: A Complete Character Ranking

From the same creators of Ragnarok Mobile: Eternal Love, JiangShen Mobile, and Ulala: Idle Adventure comes an MMORPG made from a beloved franchise that’s been around since 2009: Torchlight Infinite. Complete with a class system that lets you customize their abilities, mixing and matching skills that make characters unique to each player’s preference, this game is a must-play for every RPG enthusiast.

torchlight infinite tier list

If you are new to the game and want to get some practical tips and tricks, we highly recommend checking out our dedicated Beginner’s Guide as it will provide you with much more information than this article. However, if you just want to learn more about each character and our reasons for why we decided to give them the rating we gave them, read on!

At this time, there are only 5 free main characters that you can choose from, so for this tier list, we decided to focus on them. We also thought it was only fitting to divide our rating into three categories: Beginner-Friendly, Offense, and Support. Everyone has their preferred playstyle and we figured that this would give our readers the best assessment of which character is better suited for them. Please know that our tier ratings are based on our experience, are entirely subjective, and may be different from other players’ assessments.

Berserker Rehan

berserker rehan torchlight infinite

Berserker Rehan is a melee character specializing in Swords, Axes, and Hammers with a decent starting Attack (DPS) of 19 and an average starting Defense (Survival) of 59 with his initial equipment. At the start, he is influenced by the God of Might, making Strength his main stat and granting him Talents focused on improving Attack and Fire Damage.

Tier Ratings

 Beginner-FriendlyOffenseSupport
Berserker RehanSSC

Berserker Rehan is a character that does not require players to have that much experience with games similar to Torchlight: Infinite. He is arguably the most beginner-friendly character in the game. His starting skills and abilities are simple and it’s easy to pick up on how to use him effectively. Because he is our top pick for newbies learning the game, we gave him a Beginner-Friendly Tier rating of S. Even without reading any of the tutorials that pop up, it is still possible to get far through the game.

Despite the simplicity of this character’s playstyle, he is also one of the stronger damage dealers in the game, with most of his earlier skills dealing tremendous damage to multiple enemies. And for that, we gave him an Offense Tier rating of S. Since enemies come in hordes and waves, Rehan often takes center stage in the party dynamic, clearing out those that stand in his way.

However, when it comes to supporting his group in a non-combative fashion, Rehan falls short. His initial skills, talent, and hero traits are mostly geared toward eliminating enemies and not boosting or healing allies. With this in mind, it is safe to say that his Support Tier rating of C is well-deserved. While it is possible to equip him with support skills later on as he reaches higher levels, it is not practical to do so since it is not his strong suit.

To give you an idea of what his main or starting build is, we have listed the skills he can use on his first 15 levels below:

Divineshot Carino

divineshot carino torchlight infinite

Divineshot Carino is a ranged character specializing in Bows, Guns, and Cannons with a low attack (DPS) of 16 but a high starting defense (Survival) of 64 and 25% Attack and Spell Block Chance with his initial equipment. At the start, he is influenced by the Goddess of Hunting, making Dexterity his main stat and granting him Talents focused on improving Speed and Lightning Damage.

Tier List Rating

 Beginner-FriendlyOffenseSupport
Divineshot CarinoABC

Divineshot Carino is a character that arguably has the best survivability at the start of the game. New players who take a more defensive stance and prefer fighting from afar would surely enjoy playing this character. For that, we decided to give him a Beginner Friendly Tier rating of A. His skills are not too complicated, though the reload system may be a bit tedious for players who prefer the quick hack-and-slash playstyle.

His offense is also nothing to scoff at. He deals a great amount of damage to his enemies, with most of these skills leaning towards Lightning and Fire Damage that either jump from enemy to enemy or explodes. However, it may take some time for him to build up to become the main damage dealer in a team setting. Because of this, we gave him an Offense Tier rating of B. With proper skill, talent, and hero trait selection and equipment, this rating can easily go higher.

When it comes to supporting, Carino is unfortunately not as reliable. His initial skills, talent, and hero traits hardly have anything that can improve his ability to support his allies on the sidelines as his strength lies in destroying his foes. For this, we decided to give him a Support Tier rating of C. Since his initial build leans heavily towards offense, we also do not recommend building him as a support.

Skills

To give you an idea of what his main or starting build is, we have listed the skills he can use on his first 15 levels below:

SkillsNotes
Compound Source Bloodthirst Recovery Mana Source Life Source Ice ShotCarino’s starting skills provide him with ways to restore his Life and Mana along with the ability to shoot Ice projectiles in a cone-shaped explosion.

Frostfire Gemma

frostfire gemma torchlight infinite

Frostfire Gemma is a mage character specializing in Blades, Wands, and Staves with a decent starting Attack (DPS) of 20 and an average starting Defense (Survival) of 59 with her initial equipment. At the start, she is influenced by the Goddess of Knowledge, making Intelligence her main stat and granting her Talents focused on improving Spells and Cold Damage.

Tier List Rating

 Beginner-FriendlyOffenseSupport
Frostfire GemmaBSC

Frostfire Gemma is a character that isn’t too complicated to learn but has a lot more complex than Divineshot Carino. It’s possible to play her blind without any knowledge of her abilities and still clear stage after stage. However, it does require the player to sit down and give her skills, talents, and hero traits a good read to fully understand her potential. Her Hero Trait that releases Fire and Cold Pulses depending on the skills she uses will not be immediately apparent to newbies. With this in mind, we decided to give her a Beginner-Friendly tier rating of B. Once the player gets a good understanding of what makes her tick, using this character becomes a walk in the park.

Her offense can easily rival that of Berserker Rehan, especially with the bonuses she gains from using Fire and Cold Damage. From the get-go, she already can deal damage to multiple enemies, leaving no side open and no enemy free from harm. Because of that, we decided that giving her an Offense Tier rating of S is well-deserved. She has a lot of potential to even be stronger than Rehan with good skill, talent, and hero trait combination.

However, like many offense-focused characters in this list, Gemma fails in support. Most of her initial skills, talent, and hero traits are geared toward enemy elimination with very little for anything that could boost her team. That said, a Support Tier rating of C seems fair for this character. She is also the type that is not well-suited to be built as a support, even at later levels.

Skills

To give you an idea of what her main or starting build is, we have listed the skills she can use on her first 15 levels below:

SkillsNotes
Bloodthirst Recovery Mana Source Life Source Split FireboltGemma’s starting skills lets her support herself with Life and Mana-restoring skills along with the ability to launch a fire projectile towards her enemies which splits and explodes, dealing damage to multiple enemies.

Flame Pillar Thunderlight Field Ice Bond Safeguard RingAt level 4, Gemma gains skills that let her place sentries that damage her enemies.
Blizzard Ice Lances Flame Jet Frost Pool  At level 7, Gemma gains skills that deal Cold Damage (Blizzard, Ice Lances & Frost Pool) and Fire Damage (Flame Jet). Among the cold skills, one has the ability to reduce the enemy’s Cold and Lightning Resistance (Blizzard), one has the ability to jump through enemies (Ice Lances) and another can slow them (Frost Pool). As for the fire skill (Flame Jet), it can deal damage over time.
Bull’s Rage Mana Boil Bloodthirst Fixate Secret Origin Unleash Aim Blurry Steps Elemental Shock Machine Army Souleating CircleAt level 11, Gemma gains skills that buff herself and minions as well as skills that can debuff your enemies.
Icy Ring Scorching Beam Fire Burst Icebound Laser BeamAt level 15, Gemma gains stronger attacks that deal Cold Damage (Icy Ring & Icebound Laser Beam) and Fire Damage (Scorching Beam & Fire Burst). Among the cold skills, one can launch projectiles while channeling (Icebound Laser Beam) and another can produce frost around them (Icy Ring). Among the fire skills, one can target an area (Fire Burst) while another can launch a beam while channeling (Scorching Beam).

She gains +10% Fire Damage and a +3% chance to Ignite per Fire Energy (up to 3 stacks). At max stacks, cast Fire Pulse and lose all Fire Energy. The opposite happens when gaining and using Cold Energy, except she gains a chance to Freeze instead of ignite. Fire or Cold Energy will deplete if you don’t use a Fire or Cold Skill for some time. When at 4/3/2/1 bars, the depletion time is 1/2/4/6 seconds. The depletion time for Energy over 4 bars is 1 second. As she levels up, more Hero Traits get unlocked:

Spacetime Witness Youga

spacetime witness youga torchlight infinite

Spacetime Witness Youga is a mage character that primarily uses Wands and Staves but may use Swords. He has a decent starting Attack (DPS) of 23 and an average starting Defense (Survival) of 59 with his initial equipment. He has the unique abilities to create Twisted Spacetime that boosts him and his allies and a Spacetime Illusion that mimics his main skill. At the start, he is influenced by the Goddess of Knowledge, making Intelligence his main stat and granting him Talents focused on improving Spells and Cold Damage.

Tier Ratings

Spacetime Witness Youga is a character that requires players to do a little bit of reading to fully understand how his skills and playstyle work. He is a hybrid of sorts, able to cast skills that can boost him and his allies while also dealing damage and summoning an illusion that acts as his minion. While it is possible to just pick him up and learn how to use him from the get-go, we decided to give him a Beginner-Friendly Tier rating of B since we consider him to be one of the more advanced heroes in Torchlight: Infinite. One benefit of playing this character is the fact that he can fill in many roles in a team dynamic.

Since this character can boost himself and become even more powerful, his offense grade is instantly higher than some of the heroes on the list, earning him an Offense Tier rating of A. However, because of the complexity of his playstyle, this may easily rate lower if the player using him cannot properly use him.

He can be a decent support character, especially when built with the right skills, talents, and traits. Since he can cast his Twisted Spacetime frequently, you won’t find yourself without buffs often. Because of this, we decided to give him the Support Tier rating of A which may rate higher in the right conditions, making him a worthy rival for Commander Moto.

To give you an idea of what his main or starting build is, we have listed the skills he can use on his first 15 levels below:

Youga’s Hero Gift, Twisted Spacetime, allows him to create a Twisted Spacetime around him which boosts his allies with +25% movement speed, +25% attack and casting speed, and himself with +50% spell damage. This consumes 50 mana and lasts for 8 seconds. Youga gains 1 point of Spacetime Energy every time he consumes 1% of his max mana. As he levels up, more Hero Traits get unlocked:

Commander Moto

commander moto torchlight infinite

Commander Moto is a summoner character that primarily utilizes weapons such as Swords, Great Swords, Axes, Great Axes, Hammers, and Giant Hammers but may use Wands and Staves. He has a useless starting Attack (DPS) of 0 and an average starting Defense (Survival) of 59 with his initial equipment. While it may seem odd for a character to have 0 DPS, it doesn’t matter too much because your starting main skill is summoning minions that will fight for you. At the start, he is influenced by the God of Machines, making Intelligence and Strength his main stats and granting him Talents focused on improving Summons and Sentry skills.

Tier Ratings

Commander Moto is a character that requires a different playstyle from the other heroes, mostly because he does not deal damage directly most of the time. He mostly depends on allies and minions to clear his way, giving you lesser control over the outcome of a battle. You need to be good at maneuvering your character and can keep yourself from getting hit or dying. Beginners who are used to the usual click-and-kill approach may not immediately take a liking to him and may even get confused about how to use him at first. This is why we decided to give him a Beginner-Friendly Tier rating of C. However, his set of skills provides a much more unique gameplay experience from the other characters, making him a breath of fresh air to players wanting something new.

The character himself is not known for his strength in battle, but his minions deal great damage to his enemies, their numbers keeping hordes of enemies busy as they subdue them one by one. For this, we decided to give him an Offense Tier rating of B. However, this rating may easily go up depending on how you build his skills, talents, and traits.

Support is Commander Moto’s strong suit, boosting both his minions and allies during battle. As long as he’s alive, your party will surely survive the toughest waves, making boss battles seem like a walk in the park. Just for that, we gave him a Support rating of S. He is simply a must-have for team adventures.
