1. The Battle System
The controls for this game are pretty easy to learn. There are several different buttons to tap to control your gladiator. You have the movement buttons, the attack button, the buttons for abilities, and lastly, the jump button. Even though the controls are easy to learn, knowing how to use them effectively is a different matter. There are dozens of enemies and they all behave differently. You will need to know how to control your character well in order to defeat every opponent you face. Make sure you practice a few times in easier levels to help you get a good grasp of the controls. It would be a good idea to start with the story mode so that the difficulty level of your opponents would be easier to predict.
2. The Learning Curve
The game gives star ratings after each battle. The maximum you can get is three stars. When you are still starting out, you don’t need to worry about getting three stars. The learning curve is pretty steep so it will take you a while before you can consistently get maximum ratings for your battles. The difficulty level goes up quickly and you might feel pressured to progress just as quickly. The important thing is to keep trying and keep practicing until you eventually get used to how battles work. Do not get frustrated with your progress.
3. Jumping Attacks
If your enemies are beating you up badly, you might want to consider trying a different approach. And by this we mean literally approaching your enemy differently through jumping attacks. Walking towards your opponent is an easy way to get yourself caught in their combo attack. Jumping will help you dodge any incoming attack while allowing you to launch your own. Keep in mind that jump attacks only cover a short distance. Make sure you know where you land or you will end up just landing right in front of the opponent, vulnerable to any attack. Use the jump attack efficiently and you will surely succeed. Try using it as a combo starter and see how much your matches improve. It’s not a guaranteed win each time but you will at least have a better chance of winning.
4. To Fight Or Not To Fight
One of the most important decisions that you will make in this game is to fight aggressively or defensively. This decision can only be made when you are already in battle as you will need to use your best judgement to gauge whether or not you should attack. For the most part, playing defensively is a good way to ensure you survive battles. Being defensive means backing up whenever your opponent attacks then launching a counter attack only when there is a good opportunity. It can get pretty boring and your battles will take a lot of patience this way but at least you are safe. On the other hand, fighting aggressively mean attacking repeatedly, not giving your enemy any chance to retaliate. There are some enemies who will stagger when you attack them. Take advantage of this because you will be able to keep pummeling away without worrying about getting hit in return. Watch your opponent at the start of each battle before choosing whether to go on the offensive or defensive. This decision alone could make or break any battle for you.
5. Getting In Gear
The game prides itself in offering a variety of options for equipment customization. What you want to use is mostly up to you and how you want to play the game. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that you should update your gear as much as possible. If you find yourself taking a beating in every battle, the likely cause is poor equipment. Take time to assess your current equipment to see if there is anything you can upgrade or replace to make your character stronger. If you are broke and can’t afford any new gear, then you should grind a bit to earn the money. Do not force yourself to keep going with shoddy gear. This will just get more and more difficult as you go along. Remember, preparation is half the battle.
6. Investing In Passive Skills
Aside from the two active skills available, you also have access to two passive skills that help you get stronger in the game. The first one you should invest in is increased maximum health. Having high maximum health will help you get higher star ratings because they are based on how much health you have left at the end of the battle. Of course, it goes without saying that having higher health also makes you harder to kill. Staying alive longer in battles mean you have a better shot at defeating your enemy.
The second skill you should invest in is health regeneration. Obviously, this also helps you get higher star ratings since it helps keep your health at good levels until the end of the battle. You may not notice the regeneration at first since the initial rate is practically negligible. You will need to invest a few points in it in order to get good use out of it.
7. Get The Four-Star Chest
Chests give you equipment that you can use in battles. The higher the star rating of the chest, the better the equipment. When you start out, you can purchase a couple of 2-star chests to help you win a few battles. Once you have some decent initial gears, save up your gold for 4-star chests. These cost 2500 gold but will definitely be worth investing in because they give equipment with 205 to 350 power ratings.
