Puff (iOS) Cheats, Tips & Tricks: 5 Hints for Taking Out More Cute and Harmless-Looking Enemies

Want a mobile game that won’t overwhelm you with complex mechanics and countless features? You probably want a casual arcade game, and The Frosty Pop Corps has a new one for iOS called Puff. And unlike other casual game makers, the folks behind this game have taken the effort to make the description quite an elaborate one – it starts out by saying that this is what would happen if Flappy Bird and Downwell “did some baby makin’ resulting in a love child.” Specifically, this is a twitch shooter, and on a more serious note, Frosty Pop Corps says that the game comes with progressively increasing difficulty levels, simple and smooth controls, tons of seemingly cute-looking enemies to take out, eight-bit graphics, a Replay Kit, a chiptune soundtrack, and much more.

If you come to think of it, this is a game that one can say is a bit more full-featured than other pure casual titles we’ve covered. That may be because of the retro gaming feel Frosty Pop Corps wanted for this title. Still, it’s a fairly simple game where your ultimate goal would be to get the most kills and climb up the Game Center rankings. And in order to help you with that, we have come up with some Puff tips and tricks, which you can check out in the list below.

1. See What Works In The First Few Levels

Remember what we said earlier about the difficulty increasing progressively? We shall talk about that more in this tip, because you won’t have much trouble in the first levels. But as you make it past the first few levels, you may likely start finding yourself in a pickle, which we shall discuss in the next tip. Treat the initial levels as a chance for you to practice, a chance to fool around and see what works and what doesn’t work.

2. The Bubbles Need To Be Kept Under Control

You’ll need to learn how to control the bubbles that appear from the sides of your screen. If you allow too many bubbles to appear, you might bump into one, and that’s going to help end your game earlier than you’d want it to. Keep your eye out, because they tend to appear at random places and slowly move as they target your character. And remember that your bullets are capable of blasting through walls – it helps to shoot them before they get too close to you. Lastly, watch out for bubbles that split into smaller ones once you blast them – those smaller bubbles can throw you off if you’re not careful!

3. Water Kills

Aside from the bubbles, you also have to keep an eye out for the pipes on the walls, as they will start sprinkling, which is not a good thing at all. The yellow pipes leak out small streams of water, and we all know that there’s nothing wrong with a little water in real life. But if your Puff comes in contact with water – even just a drop of it – you will get killed regardless of how much health you have left! Blue pipes, on the other hand, shoot out freer-flowing streams of water, and create a barrier. That barrier won’t last for long, just like the short spurts of water from the yellow pipes only last for a bit. But once again, that water is fatal to your Puff, regardless of the amount! The long and the short of it is this – getting your Puff wet is tantamount to killing it.

4. About The Power-Ups And What You Should Do With Them

The game comes with three types of power-ups that can help you progress in this game, and all of them have their own specific benefits. First, you’ve got your Heat power-up, which restores your health completely. Secondly, your Bomb power-up blows up the entire screen and kills all your enemies. Lastly, the Shield power-up destroys anything that comes in contact with the purple shield it creates.

Now you may be thinking of saving those power-ups for a later time and coming back to them once you’re ready. But that won’t be possible in Puff, as you should grab them ASAP. Power-up spawns only last about seven seconds, and don’t come very frequently – you’ll never know how long you have to wait before the next one comes around!

5. Get Rid Of Those Flowers

We’ve talked about bubbles and water and the risks they pose to your Puff. But there’s another type of danger you should be careful of – the flowers. These flowers appear in the third level, and some may confuse them as friendly creatures when they spawn on top of the pipes. But they’re out to get you, and it wouldn’t be in your best interests to ignore them. Take those flowers out as soon as you see them, and treat them in a similar way to how you treat the bubbles.

There are different kinds of flowers with different characteristics and traits. The basic yellow flower only shoots out small bullets, which are dangerous enough in itself. The advanced yellow flower, however, is an even tougher customer, both in appearance and in capabilities. Its eye is particularly intimidating to look out, and it fires larger bullets upwards in your direction. You should be working to take out those flowers regardless of their size, but if you have to choose, go with the advanced flowers first as they’re deadlier.
