Pokémon games have always been a huge hit in portable consoles, so it makes sense for it to continue being popular in the mobile platform. That is why The Pokémon Company has partnered with DeNA in order to come up with a “new and exciting” Pokémon game for smartphones. This was revealed in DeNA’s fiscal year 2018 operating results.
The report from DeNA showed that the company is planning to release the game towards the end of March 2020. Additional information about the new Pokémon game, how it will be played, and when it will be released will be announced at a later time. Fans of the Pokémon series should note, however, that Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be released on the Nintendo Switch soon, so there might be some cross promotion in the horizon.
DeNA is a Japanese developer company that has worked with Nintendo on several mobile game projects, including Super Mario Run, Animal Crossing: Pocket, and Mario Kart Tour. This is the first time, however, that DeNA will be working with the Pokémon Company that’s also partly owned by Nintendo.
There are currently only a handful of Pokémon games on mobile, the most notable of which is Pokémon GO. It is an augmented reality game that allows players to use their smartphone’s camera to capture Pokémon in real life. Hopefully the new game will be just as massive as Pokémon GO.
