Having your own adorable virtual pet to take care of is just so much fun that the original game has since spawned dozens of copycats. Nothing quite lived up to our expectations until now.

Bandai Namco’s new mobile game perfectly recreates the original’s charm while adding a few innovations to keep things interesting. Enter the colorful world of Tamatown and watch it merge with your own in full augmented reality glory. Look around and find all your Tama friends lurking about. Raise your very own Tamagotchi characters and discover how the game has captured the hearts of millions for over two decades. Keep in mind, though, that taking care of virtual pets needs a lot of work. While we covered this game before and shared with you some tips and tricks for beginners, now we are back with even more cheats and hints in the form of this My Tamagotchi Forever ultimate guide!

1. Keep An Eye On Basic Needs

In My Tamagotchi Forever your pet has four basic needs that have to be met in order to keep them happy and healthy. You can keep track of these by checking out the four buttons at the bottom of your screen. Each button will have a colored background that will tell you when it is time to address that need. When the background is still green, your pet is fine. Once it turns red, you need to tap on that button in order to take your pet to where his need will be met. For example, if your pet is hungry, the background of the button with utensils on it will turn red. Tap on it in order to take your pet to the dining room and feed him there.

2. Level Up To Unlock More Stuff

Keeping your pet’s needs satisfied is not just for fun, it also gives you experience. As long as the buttons are green, you will gradually gain experience for leveling up. You can check your progress by looking at the number on the upper left corner of your screen. The number is your level, and you will notice a circle forming around it as you come closer to leveling up. Toys, food items, and decorations can be unlocked every time you level up. Keep in mind that you will still have to purchase them from the store after they are unlocked, though. Once you have them in your inventory, you are free to place them in Tamatown.

3. Take Photos To Earn Coins

Every time your pet interacts with a new object for the first time, make sure you capture the moment and snap a photo. Just tap on the camera icon and you will be able to save a picture of your pet in your album. You will earn a few extra coins every time you take a photo of your pet’s first interaction. Subsequent photos of the same item will not reward you with coins, but it is still fun to do if you want to replace the photos you have in your album.

4. Listen To Your Pet

Just because he is your pet does not mean you get to do whatever you want without paying attention to his feelings. If you keep trying to do other things while ignoring your pet’s needs, he will eventually start disobeying you. For example, if your pet is very hungry or tired, trying to make him play will just upset him. Take care of his needs first. If a button is almost empty because you have not been addressing your pet’s need, you will not be able to do anything until you give him what he wants.

The opposite is true when it comes to making your pet perform certain tasks. If his hunger indicator is full, you will not be able to force him to eat anymore. You will also not be able to put to bed a pet that is wide awake. You will need to do other tasks or play some mini-games until the buttons get depleted again.

Lastly, knowing your pet’s favorites is important. You will know what your pet’s favorite food is if you pay attention while feeding him. A speech bubble containing your pet’s favorite food will appear when you are feeding him. If you fill his plate with the food he wants, his hunger button will fill up a lot faster.

5. Stroke Your Pet, Here’s How

Just as with pets in real life, stroking your Tamagotchi character can be a little tricky. As a rule, do not attempt to stroke them unless all their other needs have been met. You might not get scratched up as you would if you tried to pet a hungry cat, but it would upset your virtual pet just the same. On the other hand, if you were able to address all other needs, and your pet is perfectly satisfied, stroking him can increase his happiness.

6. Help Your Pet With Business

When it comes to taking care of pets, things are not always sparkles and rainbows. We can’t say if it is a good thing, but for the sake of covering all bases, this game will also make you take care of your pet as it does its business. Tap on the toilet to make your pet sit on it, then hold down your finger to help him get things going. It is a bit awkward, but it is part of any pet-owner’s job.

7. Bathe Your Pet Often

Bathing is highly encouraged in My Tamagotchi Forever. There is no hygiene indicator because there is not limit to the number of times you can give your pet a bath. He will not get tired of it no matter what. Give your pet a bath as often as you can. Not only will this help you earn some experience and coins, it will also occasionally reward you with an experience boost. Don’t worry if his needs indicators are full. He will always agree to take a bath, so take advantage of this as much as you can.

8. How To Play The Mini-Games

As we mentioned above, you will still need to buy new items even after you unlock them. To do this, you have to earn a lot of coins. Mini-games are great for earning extra coins while keeping yourself busy at the same time. However, in order to make sure you don’t neglect your pet while playing games, you will only be able to access the mini-games once all the needs have been met. When the four buttons are green and full, you will see a joystick icon appear above your pet. The same icon can be found above the happy face button on the bottom of your screen. Tap on it to access the Arcade.

There is a total of six games in the Arcade but only the first four are immediately available. These four are the Tamagotchi-themed games. The other two are independent games that need to be downloaded and installed on your device if you want to be able to earn coins from them.

If your goal is to earn a lot of coins, opt for the Match Three and Band Practice games. These two are fairly easy and can help you earn all the coins you need. Match Three is a puzzle game where you need to match three or more tiles of the same kind. Band Practice will make you tap on musical notes as they fly across the screen. You will earn coins for every five notes you catch. At the end of each game, you can double the coins you earned by simply watching a video advertisement. Take advantage of this especially when you were able to get good scores from the mini games.

9. Complete Your Album

Taking photos of your pet is not just for earning coins. Make sure you always take photos of memorable moments in order to complete pages in your album. You will be able to unlock rare outfits for every album page you complete. If you are not sure which photos you are missing, just tap on the album in the living room. The missing photos will have placeholders in their place that will tell you the items that your pet needs to interact with. Unlock and purchase these items in order to get those missing photos.

You might need to move the items to different locations in order to get the photo you need. One good example is the Bunny outfit for Meganetchi. If you want to get that outfit, you need to unlock and purchase the fountain, playground swing, and inflatable rubber unicorn. Take photos of your pet while playing with the items in order to unlock the outfit.

10. Journey To Adulthood

As you progress in the game, your pet will continue to grow. You will eventually need to evolve him into an adult. Evolution requires a lot of trial and error in feeing your pet. You need to be able to feed him different types of food until he evolves. There will be times when your pet will refuse to eat a food he does not like. You may need to feed him his favorite food first in order for him to try the new food. Once you have fed him the food he needs, he will become an adult. Keep in mind that the type of evolution will depend on his diet. He will turn out different if you fed him mostly vegetables than if you fed him mostly meat. Try out different things to figure out how to get the evolution you like.

11. Choosing A Career

The whole point of evolving your pet into an adult is so that he can get a job. Each job has its own set of objectives. For example, if you want Gardener Memetchi, you will need to match 300 blocks in the mini-game, eat a total of 10 broccoli, and unlock the Gardener outfit. If you want Pop Star Memetchi, you will need to complete all the photos needed on the second page of her album.

12. How To Earn More Coins

More ways to earn money is always a good thing. There are several things you can do to earn a few coins here and there. While these things may not seem like a lot at first, they will eventually pile up, allowing you to buy those new items you have been dreaming of. One of the easiest ways is to simply tap on a red action button and complete the task that will address your pet’s needs in order to earn a few coins.

Another way to earn more coins is to look for the happy pet. Keep an eye on the Tamatown icon on the bottom of your screen. If you see an exclamation point on it, that means there is a happy pet nearby. Tap on the Tamatown icon and explore your surroundings until you find the pet with a gift box on top. Click on the gift box to earn some coins. You can also double the coins you can get from the box by agreeing to watch a short video advertisement.

While playing mini-games can earn you coins, taking on Daily Game Challenges can give you even more money. You will be given a challenge per day which usually involves meeting certain criteria in specific mini games. For example, you may be asked to complete level 10 of the Match 3 mini game. Once you meet that criteria, you will be rewarded. You also get bigger rewards for every consecutive day that you are able to complete the challenge. A whopping 800-coin reward will be waiting for you after five-day challenge streak!

13. Bedtime Is Important For Pets

In My Tamagotchi Forever your pet will need energy in order to perform various tasks. The only way to gain energy is to go to bed and sleep. Unfortunately, your pet will not sleep on his own no matter how tired he is. Make sure you always put your pet to sleep before logging off from the game. Otherwise, you will end up with a very tired pet in the morning, and you will have to wait a while before you can perform any other tasks with him.
