Mimicry: Online Horror Action Guide: Tips, Tricks & Strategies to Win as a Human or Monster

Mimicry: Online Horror Action is the latest mobile game from Euphoria Horror Games, the company behind the hugely popular Death Park games and Antartica 88. With over 40 million downloads across their apps from the Google Play Store alone, accumulated in a span of just about 3 years, you can expect the same quality and experience from Mimicry as the kind that fans and followers of the other games enjoyed.

mimicry tips

Mimicry is an asymmetrical multiplayer survival horror game where 9 players are locked inside a facility they need to escape from. One random player is selected to take the role of a powerful monster who can shapeshift into human form and can mimic anyone it kills. The remaining players must perform tasks with the ultimate goal of escaping the facility, all the time being watchful of his or her allies knowing one of them is a monster in disguise.

With asymmetrical multiplayer games being a rather uncommon subgenre, players who have no prior experience in loosely similar games may take some time to get accustomed to the gameplay mechanics. Mimicry does not hold any tutorial sessions but players, regardless of experience, can quickly learn as they go rather easily.

Mimicry is a type of game that is easy to learn but difficult to master. Considering that it is an online game that involves playing with either friends or strangers, each session guarantees to offer a unique outcome and experience for everyone.

If you have just started your survival horror adventure in Mimicry and want quick tips on how to perform better with each run, then you came to the right place. Our comprehensive Mimicry guide can help set you up the best tricks and tactics to dominate each round as a human or otherwise.

1. Get To Know The Rules

Every match starts with a 30-second prep time where you can gather supplies and arm yourself up with whatever you can pick up. It is after this set period of time that one of you will be notified that he or she is infected, being the designated monster for the round while the rest will also be informed that a monster lurks among them.

Once the initial 30 seconds has lapsed, the players will have to perform a series of tasks indicated by markers visible anywhere inside the facility. There are numerous different tasks available in the game and a random list of 4 objectives will need to be completed each round.

mimicry rules

Completing tasks contribute to filling up the progress bar at the bottom of the screen and a full bar will finally unlock the central exit, which is the main escape route players need to exit for them to win. There are also hatches scattered across each stage and this can be used by a human player to escape if he or she is the only remaining survivor.

Alternatively, human players can also eliminate the monster to win the match. This can only be done by knocking the monster out and then burning it to ashes. In addition to being able to utilize different weapons and working with others to reach a common goal, players are also able to communicate with one another.

There are also important items players can use, like bandages that restore health and energy drinks that temporarily boost movement speed. These fill a separate slot from ammo that you can carry as well as a weapon you can use. There is a limit to what players can carry at a time, as far as ammo variety and weapons are concerned, and players can simply throw out unwanted items by sliding up on its icon and away from the inventory.

mimicry monster

The designated monster has its own set of tasks as well. Ultimately, however, your goal is to not let any of them escape and wipe them out. The monster has vicious attacks and can easily defeat any human at close range. In addition to its ability to shift between human form and monster form at any time, the monster can mimic any of the human players it has killed.

These are the basic rules of Mimicry. It all sounds too simple and it is, but knowing the basics is just a small piece of the pie. Strategy, patience and coordination are very important skills to have and hone. It is certainly fun to have full sessions with friends but playing with random players does provide its own set of excitement and unpredictability.

2. Adjust Settings And Engage In Practice Runs

Mimicry may not be a full-fledged FPS or third person shooter but gameplay does involve the use of firearms and requires a bit of precision. While the overall control layout and interface provided is as simple and easy to pick up, there are some adjustments you can tinker with under the settings menu to more suitably fit your preferences.

On the main screen, you can hit the gear icon at the top of the screen to enter the settings menu. The general settings hold tweaks you can make relating to sound and music while you can adjust the screen refresh rate or FPS under the graphics settings.

What you should check and make adjustments to is the control settings. You can set different levels of sensitivity and UI transparency here as well as enable or disable aim assist and transparent inventory. Be sure to take note of changes as you engage in the next match and make necessary adjustments as needed.

mimicry settings

Now that you have a good enough understanding of the basic mechanics and have checked and made necessary changes to the configurations, you should be ready enough to take on your first dive. Comparable to most online multiplayer games, but perhaps a little less common in terms of mechanics, the initial sets of the matches you engage in should be aimed towards increasing familiarity with all aspects of gameplay.

Regardless of whether you have already customized some control settings or not, your initial session or sessions should be the best time to test out the control sensitivity level, among other control aspects. By the end of the first match, you should already determine if your configurations are the best you can have or if you can still make some adjustments to it.

While the markers are tremendously useful in helping you find you way to fulfilling the tasks at hand from wherever you are on the map, having a certain level of familiarity with the map’s layout goes a long way and part of every player’s level of expertise in the game is attributable to how much accustomed they are to the map’s entire layout.

mimicry practice run

The levels in Mimicry have labyrinthine layouts that can be very challenging to memorize, even for experienced players and each one is not short of being huge as well. There are maps shown on some locations within the facility and you can also access the map through its icon at the upper right side of the screen. In either case, especially the latter, peeking into the map should be done carefully.

It will certainly take a lot of replays to get fully accustomed to each level’s layout and design, and that is considering the location only without considering healing stations, item locations, as well as other important areas to accomplish quests and objectives.

While your ultimate goal, as far as area mastery is concerned, is to know the full map like the back of your hand, the initial objective should be focused on avoiding dead ends and dangerous areas where you do not want to be stuck in with your enemy.

3. Item Knowledge Is Important

Mimicry provides very different play styles for human players and the infected player. There can be multiple play styles in between and you will surely be able to develop your own in time, especially after experiencing several runs with different players that yield different scenarios. Before we delve into that, though, it is important to understand the value of each item you can come across, as you can use these either as a human or as a monster.

Medkits are basic necessities that replenish health. There are healing stations that perform the same function and everyone should utilize them as much as possible. However, healing items you can bring with you and use anywhere are valuable. Rooms with healing stations are not always safe, especially in the presence of advanced players who are on your enemies. Medkits are very limited and should be used only if the healing stations are inaccessible.

Energy Drinks may seem like a second priority compared to health kits but these are also equally important, especially for human players. Despite having weapons and health recovery, if you have med kits or can utilize the healing station, energy drinks are invaluable for the speed boost they can instantly give you. Running away will more likely be the outcome of an encounter with the monster and if you have an energy drink on hand, then using it should be your first instinct.

There are pistols, shotguns, and flamethrowers you can use but you can only equip one of them at a time. As far as ammo is concerned, you can only stock up on 2 types of ammo. Both the pistol and shotgun can hurt the monster more than the flamethrower. However, the end result will basically just knock the monster down. A knocked down monster cannot be hurt further by either weapons and can only be killed by a flamethrower.

4. Basic Human Strategies

With 8 other players alongside you each match, there is only an 11% chance that you will be designated as the infected while the other 89% chance leads you to take a full role of a human player. As such, you should be inclined to be more prepared for the role.

As one of the crew, coordinating and communicating with the other non-infected players is important. However, you can still win the match for everyone even in the absence of using communication channels or even coordinating closely with the rest of the players.

Your life is and should always be your top priority, so it is very basic to gather as much supplies as you can within the 30-second grace period at the start of each match. You should always have gas for the flamethrower and ammo for either the pistol or the shotgun. We mentioned earlier that both the pistol and the shotgun deal more damage to the infected until he is downed, which is why you should have this equipped until after you have knocked down the infected or at least see it knocked down by anyone else.

mimicry human strategies

This, however, does not mean that you will neglect getting a flamethrower for yourself. As much as possible, you should take a flamethrower and keep it stocked somewhere you can easily pick it up later, preferably somewhere hidden from everyone else.

Likewise, make sure it is tucked somewhere you can easily pick it up when the time to do so comes. This strategy is closely tied to familiarity with the area’s layout as you would want to make sure to be able to fetch what you need when you need it, especially the flamethrower when the infected is downed.

The completion of the 4 objectives is a shared task. Although you can try and rely on everyone else to complete these objectives for the team, it is best to always do your part and take every bit of step towards escaping the facility. Likewise, you should also tend to the needed repairs to restore the heating system in case the infected sabotages it, not entirely for everyone else’s survival but primarily for your own.

While finding the exact spots to progress the missions are easy enough, thanks to the markers, it does take a while to perform some actions. Whenever you see the fingerprint icons pop up on your screen, be sure to tap on it as rapidly as you can to speed up the task.

mimicry human tactics

Make it a habit as well to keep your view behind you or where other players are while performing a task. In fact, it is best to keep an eye out for anyone within your immediate vicinity, as trust is not as easy to give and earn in this game.

A one-on-one confrontation with the infected should be avoided at all times as it would only take the infected 5 or 6 slashes to eliminate you. If you can run away while occasionally keeping track of where the infected is, and attack it once it is focused on any other player. If you take damage by being caught in a surprise attack, make sure you heal first before attempting to engage again. Note that once you have been damaged, you can get a bit of speed but will now be more easily tracked by the infected.

5. Basic Infected Strategies

That 11% chance of being designated as the infected still makes it likely enough that your will experience seeing things on another perspective sooner than you think. For starters, you will still be able to collect items and be able to do pretty much what everyone else can, while in human form at least. Shifting to monster form grants you enhanced physical strength and can beat the crap out of anyone or maybe even 2 humans at a time, especially if they are unarmed.

As tempting as it can be to start wreaking havoc within the facility as soon as the round starts, you have to keep in mind that the game’s title has “Mimic” in it for a reason. Not only do you have a human form and can replicate the appearance of anyone you murder, being an infected can also mimic every possible behavior that the rest of players can have.

mimicry infected strategies

In human form, you are not limited to being able to take items, ammo, and even weapons. You can also use the healing stations just like everyone else and, most importantly, you can take items related to quests and pretend you are working towards its fulfillment.

With these “human” traits available, there are 2 strategies you can easily work on. The first is to have and keep a flamethrower for yourself, given that it is the one weapon that can kill you. Either keep it handy or relocate ones you can find to spots difficult for everyone else to find. The second is to move the quest items to the wrong places, making it even more difficult for the humans to complete pending objectives.

Despite the infected’s superior physical strength, it’s monster form is not its ultimate weapon. Deception, coupled with the element of surprise are its deadlier and more menacing traits. Attacking a human player in monster form, even by surprise, will likely result in the human fleeing the immediate vicinity.

mimicry infected tactics

As an infected, using human form initially and unloading weapons on another player can impose an added state of shock to that player that can be disorienting or confusing, especially to newbies.

As much as possible, you should only use the monster form on players you are certain you can eliminate. If they do happen to escape you or if any other player comes to their aid, then it might be best to take a step back and take another shot at a later time.

When shifting back to human form, you should also make sure that no one sees you. The infected is sturdier than humans but not invulnerable, so take time to replenish your health fully as well before proceeding to hunt.

6. Learn To Bait The Enemy

Being a superior player in Mimicry means keeping the above strategies in mind as well as readying tactics on the go based on the situation at hand. Playing with different people online can yield a near-infinite amount of possibilities considering the playing styles, behavior, and general levels of expertise that each player has. Whether playing as a member of the human crew or being the infected who must wipe them out, a continuous assessment of everyone should be performed.

mimicry bait

One general rule to keep in mind is that you cannot fully trust anyone in the game. It is important to set traps of your own as well as contingencies that are secret to anyone else, especially if you are the infected.

It can happen that a non-infected among the human team wants them to fail or there could also be players simply trolling everyone else. Setting up areas where you can make a stand as well as keeping mind of where to escape to in case things turn sideways is important.

mimicry area

Mimicry requires some trickery to it on either side of the fence. As a human player, you can always appear to be running for your life when you are in fact leading the infected towards an ambush point. The same possibility can be applied and used efficiently as an infected, and this will work more likely when you are about to go down, or appear to be as your enemy might think.

7. Learn Through Observation

Whether you have successfully escaped the facility as a member of the human crew, or perished at the hands of the monster, the session can still be far from over. You may not be able to contribute more than you already have but this is an extra avenue for learning. Mimicry provides a spectator mode where you can see from the perspective of the remaining players.

mimicry escape

Regardless of how experienced or skilled you feel you may be, there is always something to learn from closely watching how other players behave in the game. From the more experienced and strategic players, you can learn new tricks or confirm strategies you have in mind. On the other hand, you can also learn some few new tricks from less experienced players as well as identify what not to do in some cases.

mimicry observation

Using spectator mode can be very helpful especially if succeeding rounds will be played with the same players. You can identify the ones you may want to work more closely with as well as the ones whom to watch out more from if ever you are on opposing sides of the match. Given that it will be very challenging to closely monitor players while you yourself is in the playing field, the spectator mode is an opportunity you should make the most out of.

8. Allocate Skill Points Strategically

Mimicry lets you earn XP as well as silver and gold through regular gameplay and ad boosts. Regardless of whether you lose or win the match, there is always something to earn. Gold and silver can both b used to purchase various clothing for your character. Silver can be used to purchase monster variants as well and gold can be spent to permanently disable ads.

mimicry ads

Beyond the above uses of silver, what we consider its most important value lies in upgrading your stats, whether as a human or a monster. With each new level you reach, 2 skill points will be earned. You can allocate these skill points by clicking on the shield button just beside your character on the main screen. Note that there are separate sets of stats you can improve for your human form and monster form and we recommend prioritizing the human form a bit first.

While there is a plethora of cool gear to spend silver on, these are all just cosmetics. Every bit of stat points you invest in makes you stronger and while the numbers may initially be unappealing, it certainly does help your survive better.

There are actually no best builds we can recommend here as the stats you prioritize should be based on your preferences and play style. What is important to note here is that the next higher level of stat points you invest in will cost more silver. For starters, we recommend spreading them out and getting more stat increases for the silver you spend.

mimicry upgrades

Be sure to take advantage of the ad boosts you can use to earn EXP, silver and gold. You can access this via its icon at the left side of the main screen. If you manage to play 5 ads within the day, you can earn 1,000 EXP, 500 silver, and 8 gold, which is not that bad at all for a total of about 75 to 150 seconds of your time.

And that is all we have for you on our Mimicry guide and we hope that you have learned a great deal from our collection of tips and strategies. If you have spent some time playing the game and have your own tricks and tactics to share, feel free to do so and share one or a couple with us and your fellow players down below!
