Kingdom Adventurers Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Tricks & Strategies to Rebuild Your Kingdom and Defeat Your Enemies

The old empire lies in ruins. Fog and monsters have taken over the entire island. Nothing but silence and dust remains.

And yet, here you are, another brave aspirant who seeks to rekindle the flame. Will you succeed in bringing glory and honor to you and yours? Or are you also doomed to fade away as another nameless warrior in the face of the island’s overwhelming challenges?

kingdom adventurers tips

Kingdom Adventurers is yet another one of Kairosoft’s excellent management titles, this one putting you in charge of a ravaged kingdom and challenging you to rebuild it from the ground up. Along the way, you’ll make stalwart allies, face fearsome foes, and hoard (and spend!) valuable loot.

Unlike other Kairosoft titles, this one is free. If you’ve ever wanted to sample the deep, immersive management, yet paid sims that Kairosoft has to offer, this is a great starting point. On the other hand, because Kingdom Adventurers is a free game, there are ads. One ad, to be precise, that plays when you load your game, and if you really want to nitpick, I guess the constant ad banners on the lowest part of the screen count too.

kingdom adventurers lester
LET ME CATCH MY BREATH, LESTER.

Kingdom Adventurers does have a lot going for it, but one thing I have to complain about is the lack of tutorials. The game does give you resources and new buildings aplenty, but rarely, if ever, gives you actual tips on how to progress – like how to harvest resources, for example. To help remedy that, I’ve compiled a Kingdom Adventurers beginner’s guide to help you on your quest to reclaim your lands and beat back the fog!

Establishing A Solid Base

While you, as reigning monarch, may find it funny to hold court in the empty plains and grassy fields, your subjects will not be amused. Thus, you’ll need to actually invest in infrastructure if you want to get anywhere.

Infrastructure, economy, and research are a core part of the game. You’ll not only need to provide a place for your people to gather, but also set up houses and other facilities to further improve your ability to thrive on the ruins of the old kingdom, as well as fend off the island’s many threats. At the same time, you’ll need to establish a constantly-running resource network while researching new and better ways to do things.

Buildings and Limits

Buildings are one of the core components in restoring the kingdom. Putting up new buildings allows more services to be offered to both you and your people, and gives you more options as you continue construction and restoration.

kingdom adventurers work
“Hammer the ground until the building appears” is popular here too, I see.

Buildings in Kingdom Adventurers aren’t built instantly. When you place a building, your people need to work on every single tile of it before the building is complete. Fortunately, any idle heroes will immediately jump on pending construction projects, so you don’t need to worry about manpower too much. If you can’t wait, you can also use a magic hammer (tap the hammer icon on the bottom of the screen) to instantly complete all current construction. The magic hammer is a premium item though, so try to use it sparingly, ideally when you have a lot of construction projects going on.

kingdom adventurers construction
No construction?

Keep in mind that every building has a cap on how many of it you can construct – and yes, this includes walls and fences. You can view that limit in the build menu, represented by the number on the upper right of the building button.

You also have a limit on how many buildings you can construct at once (I believe it’s 2 or 3). If you want to increase this limit, you’ll need to use Construction Hints #9, a treasure item that can be accessed by going to Menu -> Treasure. If it doesn’t appear there, you haven’t progressed through the game enough.

The Town Hall

The Town Hall is the very first building that you can build. This facility is the heart of your town – your territory expands outwards from the Town Hall, and it also determines your (automatic) boundaries. The Town Hall bears special mention as because it serves as a beacon through which your town expands, try to build the Town Hall as far away from the waterside as possible. Otherwise, you’ll be expanding into sea tiles that don’t do anything.

kingdom adventurers town hall
Yes, milord?

The Town Hall is also responsible for generating energy, which is consumed by deployment. Offices in the Town Hall also allow new heroes to immigrate to your town, giving you more people to work with.

Facilities

kingdom adventurers facilities
Never underestime the power of the simple lean-to.

Some buildings are facilities, by which I mean they’re usable from the get-go and rarely, if ever, require any additional input from you to work. Some examples of facilities are storehouses, which increase the amount of items and resources you can hold (and do note there are dedicated storehouses for different types of resources), and temporary shelters which heroes will run to if they’re low on health.

Empty Lots

If you’re not building facilities, you’re building empty lots.

Empty lots are a lot more important than they first look. By themselves, they don’t do much. That changes when you grant land to a hero, which will unlock new options on that empty lot. And more likely than not, you’ll be converting empty lots into homes for your heroes. Houses provide a place for heroes to kick back and relax at the end of the day.

granting land in kingdom adventurers
Prove yourselves worthy of my benevolence!

You may have noticed when building a house that you actually have multiple options for that lot. Apart from the commoner’s house, there are also options like a mansion, a royal house, or stores for crafter-type heroes. Do note that the lot by itself has no value – you have to assign it to someone, then convert it to get any mileage at all out of the land.

Empty lots aren’t just a way for heroes to interact with the world – your heroes can actually fall in love, get married, and produce children, which means more free heroes for you.

Walls and Gates

Walls and especially gates are very important as they delineate where your town’s limits are, for easy organization as well as a way to keep monsters out.

kingdom adventurers gate
My own backyard level grinding lot.

Your town automatically has a basic fence erected around its borders. More importantly though, you’ll need to place gates in the walls to designate areas where your heroes can exit. It’s important to have gates located in key exits around your walls so that your heroes don’t have a hard time, especially if you’re constantly deploying them around the map. Which you should be.

Reclaiming Land

You’ll occasionally get buildings that allow you to expand your territory, such as torches and watchtowers. However, the really big payoffs come starting level 10, when a strange princess will use you as her guinea pig cast a spell to greatly expand your borders!

kingdom adventurers walls
This land was made for me and mine.

As you claim new territory for yourself, don’t forget to expand your walls and gates to better protect the buildings within. The last thing you want is high level monsters invading your town!

Ranking Up

Some buildings have ranks that can be increased by spending both time and special items. Increasing a building’s rank improves all its services, and can even yield unexpected bonuses!

ranking up in kingdom adventurers
Tick tock, tick tock…

To rank a building up, just tap it and tap the rank up button – it’s really hard to miss. You’ll then be prompted to pay materials (which you can see on the lower left of the screen), and wait a little, and presto, you get a new and better building!

ranking up the town hall in kingdom adventurers
A little something for your trouble.

The Town Hall can also be ranked up, but it follows a different set of rules. For one, it cannot be upgraded instantly unlike other buildings. To rank up your Town Hall, you’ll first need to fill up the rank points (visible in the upper right menu along your resources). Whenever you heroes gain experience, you’ll also gain rank points, so try to have a reliable way to farm exp, such as deliberately leaving some areas of the island unlit to allow monsters to always have a spawning area. And yes, do note that spillover experience is wasted and doesn’t carry over to the next rank.

As ranking up the Town Hall is crucial to development, it’s important that you always have rank up materials such as Sturdy Boards on hand. In the early game, the best way to get these rank up materials is to reclaim the treasure chests lying around, as well as clearing dungeons and bosses.

Resources

Almost everything in Kingdom Adventurers uses resources. The panel on the upper right of the screen gives you a quick readout on your resources.

kingdom adventurers readout

There are six different kinds of resources: grass, wood, food, metal, and gems. And yes, these are the official names which I got by building the appropriate storehouses.

Gathering resources is easy, too. In the beginning, your heroes will automatically harvest resources from within your city limits. Once those are depleted though, you have to deploy heroes outside your city walls, where they will automatically harvest resources on the tiles they cover. While we’re on this topic, note that you can’t build on grass tiles as they are still technically resources.

Gathering wood, grass, and food is obvious enough: deploy heroes to grasslands and forests to harvest them. However, ore and gems are a little less obvious. For those resources, you’ll want to deploy heroes to desert tiles where they can dig those resources up from the ground.

kingdom adventurers harvest
Helping the colony, one blade of grass at a time.

While there is a hard cap on resources, your heroes will bring any overflow resources to the Town Hall instead, for easy pickup. But don’t use that as an excuse to skimp on resource warehouses as these overflow resources will still need to be moved to the proper warehouse to be used at all.

Of course, this brings up the question – what happens if I run out of resources to harvest?

Thankfully, the game does provide a way to generate resources in your towns. By talking to Lester (or, more appropriately, by him dumping a ton of information on you), you’ll eventually gain access to research projects for resource generating buildings such as plantations. This will not only allow you constantly generate resources, but also increase the speed at which you gather said resources as the sources will safely be within your own walls. However, be aware that these buildings need resources to start their operations anew. After a harvest, tap the building to give it resources and get it working again.

With all that said, it’s probably best to build them all together so you can quickly resupply any empty generators. And if you’re worried about running out of base resources, you can get them just by running around and gathering resources from the land around you.

kingdom adventurers nut
I fed all my nuts to someone and now I can’t restart my tree farm. Great.

Even with that option available to you, the best and fastest way to get resources is by taking them from outside your walls. Think of it as a warning sign: if you never have enough resources to get anything done, that means you aren’t expanding and exploring enough.

Regenerating the Wasteland

While taking resources from the wilderness and growing your own wood and food within your walls is all well and good, all the wasteland you’ll no doubt leave behind looks, well…ugly.

kingdom adventurers wasteland
Appeal: -4 (Disgusting)

There is a way to get that land back though. Once you’ve got your port and Info Boards set up (see below), you’ll also gain the Wasteland Guide facility. This facility serves as a marker where idle heroes will go to restore the wasteland they dug up. Given time, this will convert the island back to its natural, untouched state – until you tap it again for more resources.

Copper Coins

Copper Coins are technically an advanced item like Wooden Boards and Large Nails, but since you need Copper Coins for a lot more things, they deserve their own section.

These valuable coins can be acquired very rarely from treasure chests. The most reliable way of generating them is to build a tourist industry, as Copper Coins are generated whenever a market transaction takes place. That means that you’ll need to set up artisans, carpenters, smiths, merchants, and other classes with plots of land where they can both live and ply their trade.

kingdom adventurers order
This feels like Rimworld, in a way.

While it’s possible for your own heroes to buy things at stores that their comrades have put up for sale, it’s far more effective to get tourists to visit your kingdom and coax them into spending money.

To start your tourist industry, you’ll first need to liberate the Port, on the eastern coast of your town. If you haven’t found it yet, keep exploring  up the eastern coast. Be warned though – in my game, the coast was a level 7 area, so I had to put off exploring it until later.

Once you’ve freed the port, you have to assign it to a town, as well as pay to upgrade the port which will enable it. That’s not all you need to do though. Talk to Lester to get the Info Board blueprints, and then create a network of Info Boards that link back to your town. Info Boards serve as nodes for tourists – they’ll hop from one board to another while potentially visiting any stores near boards.

With that in mind, it’s important to not only create a board network to show tourists where your town is, but also to lure them towards potential shopping centers. Don’t forget that your monarch’s room is also a tourist attraction!

kingdom adventurers sale
Cha-ching!

Because Info Boards use resources and space, it’s important to plan your town around tourist attractions. And because the Port is guaranteed to spawn on the eastern coast, it’s wise to set up your storefronts and the monarch’s room towards the east part of town.

Do note that tourists don’t come of their own volition: you will need to pay food at the port to charter a tourist ship. By the time you have the port  though, you should have more than enough food, as well as ways of easily generating more!

Copper Coins are important for two things, mostly – upgrading your Town Hall rank as well as buying stuff from your stores. Unfortunately, you can’t just confiscate the goods that your people make. What a shame. To buy stuff from your shops, tap the Shop menu on the right, then select Stores in Town.

Crafting Items

Of course, tourists won’t spend money unless you have something for sale, which is why providing your crafters a home slash storefront is very important.

kingdom adventurers shop
I am a big proponent of supporting the local economy.

To get a crafter to make stuff, you’ll need to assign an empty lot to them, then convert that lot to their appropriate storefront. Once that’s done, the hero will craft items while idle – they’ll get raw materials from your warehouses then take them home to work. When the item is done, the crafter will put it on a shelf, at which point the item will be available for purchase either by you or by other tourists.

If you’d like to make your shops perform better, know that you can always rank up the production facility by tapping it. You can also install more shelves inside the stores (via the build menu) to increase the number of items a store has for sale.

Research

After you’ve upgraded your Town Hall once, you’ll gain access to the outdoor research lab. This is not optional, as the game will not let you hire other people apart from the researcher. Once you’ve built the lab and hired the researcher (and assigned them to the lab by tapping the lab, then the person icon below it), research can begin.

Learn! Learn faster!

Research in Kingdom Adventurers may surprise you. First off, research projects are repeatable but have a long cooldown after completing them. This means that you gain the benefits of research every time you complete it, which is great as one of the first research projects gives you a small plot of land every time you complete it. Also, you can conduct one project per manned research station. With that in mind, make it a habit to keep your researchers busy, and be sure to provide each researcher you recruit with their own research station.

kingdom adventurers research
Pony up, your grace.

Secondly, research requires you to manually add materials to the projects before they can begin. Tap the plus icons beside each research bar to add resources to them, and once they’re filled, you can tap the research button on the right to begin.

You can skip research waiting times as well as their cooldowns by paying diamonds, though I suggest you only do this for very long or very important research projects. But always remember: once you gain access to the research tab, never stop researching.

kingdom adventurers researcher settings
You would not believe how long it took me to figure this out.

One last thing, as this was a particular bane of mine. To unassign a leader at a research station, tap the station, then the person icon, then hit Cancel. This will remove the leader, allowing you to assign a new one and letting you move or demolish the structure.

Speeding Things Up

You’re bound to run out of resources at some point. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us.

kingdom adventurers speed
I am speed.

If you’re just twiddling your thumbs waiting to get stuff done, you can accelerate the flow of time by holding the hourglass icon in the screen’s lower right. Using this does deplete your focus gauge, which can be seen below the hourglass. Don’t worry though, as you naturally regain focus over time.

Diamonds

Apart from the basic resources, there’s one more type of currency in Kingdom Adventurers. Premium currency, that is, in the form of diamonds.

kingdom adventurers diamond shop
As always, the fastest way to earn them is to buy them.

While you don’t need diamonds to progress through the game, they’re very nice to have as they allow you to bypass waiting time or carry out building or research without actual resources. Most importantly though, they’re needed to roll in the character gacha, where you throw diamonds at a wall and pray for an S-rank hero (very unlikely).

As an F2P player, you’re not left completely in the dark though. For starters, every new rank in a Town Hall gives you 50 diamonds – and if you’ve gotten far enough in the game that you can sell your town, each new rank in your new town gives you diamonds, though veteran players have claimed that this diamond amount depreciates for towns below level 20.

kingdom adventurers trophy
Prizes await.

The Trophy King, once you unlock him by defeating a boss, will also reward you for reaching certain milestones in your kingdom’s development. Each of these trophies gives you some diamonds, as well as a trophy, which you can spend together with Crowns of Courage at the special item store!

kingdom adventurers daily quests
A-questing we will go!

Progressing far enough in the game (specifically, by unlocking the briefing room by beating a boss) gives you access to daily quests and the weekly conquest, which give a slow, but steady source of diamonds. Note, however, that you can only take on one daily quest at a time.

You can get 200 diamonds for taking a screenshot and sharing it on social media, though it seems the game doesn’t really check for the posting part.

Because diamonds are so valuable, you’ll need to be very economical in how you spend them. Luckily, there is actually a way to reduce diamond consumption. Go to Menu -> Treasure, then Diamond Guide. Each diamond guide you possess reduces diamond prices by 2%. It’s not a big boost, but every little bit helps!

Rally Your Heroes

No kingdom can be without heroes. While your monarch is both good-looking and very good at their job, it’s impossible for one person to do everything by themselves, which is where other heroes come into play.

Hero Gacha

Yes, there’s a hero gacha in this game, although it’s for classes and not specific heroes.

kingdom adventurers gacha
S-rank?! Sign me up.

At the beginning of the game, you’ll pretty much be strongarmed into rolling for more heroes. Each roll attempt costs diamonds, and can yield heroes of a rarity from C to S, with C as the most common and S as the rarest. Each pull in the hero intro gacha costs 400 diamonds, and no, there’s no discount for pulling 10.

What the game doesn’t tell you is that there’s a way to get C – A rank heroes without spending diamonds down the line. With that in mind, save your gacha rolls for pools with an S-rank hero as you can’t get those in any other way.

Hero Classes

Heroes come from different walks of life, and by hiring different heroes of different classes, you can ensure that the wheels of your town continue turning.

Heroes can be split into roughly these categories:

  • Battle-focused heroes excel at beating the crap out of monsters without getting their own crap beaten out. These classes can range from simple sword and board adventurers to powerful mages and swift rangers.
  • Shop-based jobs, or crafters, excel at raking in coins that you can spend on various things. These heroes will keep your economy not only alive, but thriving.
  • Economic classes keep your kingdom running, whether it’s by harvesting and planting resources, moving items around, or performing research.

Your monarch is an exception to this rule: they’re an all-around hero that can’t perform any of the specialized functions of other classes; for example, they can’t perform research like a Researcher unless they have the requisite skills. This makes your monarch a jack of all trades, but a master of none.

Hero Stats

kingdom adventurers hero statistics
Lookin’ good? Not really.

All heroes have the same stats, each of which you’ll need to keep in mind as you assign a hero to particular tasks.

  • HP is a measure of the hero’s health; if this hits 0, they’ll need rescue or they may lose a lifespan point.
  • MP is used in spellcasting and skill usage.
  • Vigor is a hero’s stamina: if they run out of this, their work becomes slow and inefficient. Heroes restore vigor by resting at the end of the day or when they’re tired.
  • Attack determines how much damage the hero can do with each auto attack or skill.
  • Defense reduces incoming damage from enemies.
  • Speed affects how quickly a hero’s action bar fills up, which will allow them to take an action in combat. This also affects a hero’s movement speed.
  • Luck affects how often a hero lands critical hits.
  • Intellect affects a hero’s item production; a high intellect farmer, for example, will consistently produce more food at orchards. Intellect is also important for spellcasters as it unlocks more spells and skills.
  • Dexterity determines how good a hero is at manual labor; a high dexterity score allows a hero to build faster, and (supposedly) allows them to harvest resources on the map quicker.
  • Gathering affects how many items a hero can find while searching for resources, and may (note: may) affect the rate at which a hero can find treasure.
  • Movement isn’t a measure of movement speed, but carry weight. The higher a hero’s movement, the more they can carry, which makes resource gathering trips more efficient.
  • Heart represents a hero’s bravery and willingness to plunge themselves into danger. In game terms, heart affects how much fog a hero dispels by swinging torches at it.
kingdom adventurers hero profile
She does her best.

Each stat has its own level and experience bar, which increases when the hero performs relevant actions (fighting increases HP/Attack/Defense, and so on). When said experience bar is filled, that hero gains a level in that stat, which improves that stat’s values. Do note that there is a cap on how much a hero can raise their stats, which is dependent on their awakening levels.

Training Heroes

A hero’s stats can not only be boosted by gaining levels, but can also be influenced more directly (and more quickly, I might add) by giving them items. You can access the training menu through the tab on the right side while you’re in the game itself, or go to List -> Residents, then tap the hero you want and select train.

kingdom adventurers feed
If I had to pick between having to eat 100+ items at once or actually getting off my butt and working out, I think I’d choose the latter.

In the training screen, you can drag and drop items on to heroes to boost their stats, which provides an immediate and hopefully sizable boost to their stats. Each item also helpfully comes with an icon on their upper left to denote what stat they raise. If you’d like to increase the number of items to give to a hero at once, you can cycle through the options on the left side of the screen; “1 each”, for example, only gives one item at a time, while “10 each” will give 10 of that item, or all of it, if less than ten.

Try to keep your building materials, such as wooden planks and rope away from hungry heroes’ hands as you need those for ranking up your buildings. Other items, such as food, are gathered by heroes on the field as well as found in treasure chests, so feel free to go through those as quickly as you can.

kingdom adventurers three
Yes, I would like to raise my three.

There are also some obscure icons in the training menu. Items that give “3” increase HP, MP, and Vigor all at once. Items that give “4” raise a hero’s Attack, Defense, Speed, and Luck. There also items that give “5”, though I’ve never seen them, but you can always hover those items above a hero’s head to see what stats they’ll gain. These items are particularly potent as they can fast-track a hero’s development.

Armed with that knowledge, as well as knowing what each stat does, lets you build specialized heroes. Warriors and guards, for example, will appreciate a lots of combat stats, while farmers and crafters will perform better with high intellect and movement.

Awakening Heroes

Heroes can also be awakened by feeding them heroes of the same class. Each hero sacrificed this way builds up the target’s awakening bar, which grants an awakening once it fills up.

kingdom adventurers mona
Note the increased stat caps.

Awakening levels increase the caps on the hero’s stats, allowing you to push them further than other heroes. On the other hand, this also means that you sacrifice other potential heroes of that class to improve just one of them. Don’t make this decision lightly, as sometimes it’s better to have more heroes than just have one super hero.

Awakening doesn’t increase a hero’s rarity, just their stat caps.

Hero Skills

Each hero can also use their skills to make life easier for themselves and for your kingdom.

kingdom adventurers parry
Calling your attacks!

Each hero, depending on their class, comes with their own set of skills. That’s not all they can do though – by buying skills from a skill shop (which you’ll need to build and staff with a Mage), you can give a hero new skills to augment their current skillset or help them take on multiple roles. For example, the Researcher class’ ability to conduct research is actually tied to the Researcher skill, which they come with by default. If you can somehow give that skill to your monarch, they’ll be able to spearhead research projects of their own!

kingdom adventurers fire magic
OAH!

Skills can be divided into both passive and active skills. Passive skills always provide a bonus, and these can range from combat boosts to economic bonuses. Active skills consume MP to perform actions in combat. You can tweak how often a hero will use their skills by going to that hero’s skill page and changing the activation rate.

Each hero also has a limited number of skill slots, which can be boosted by using a special item on them. Uniquely, your monarch comes with three empty skill slots, allowing your customize them as you wish. Also, note that any skill you equip can also be removed – just tap the “Remove” button in the lower left of the screen while on that hero’s skill page.

Equipment

Each hero also has five different slots for equipment: headgear, a weapon, a shield, body armor, and an accessory. Filling each of these slots is a great way to quickly boost a hero’s efficiency.

kingdom adventurers equipment
As a king, it’s my privilege to have nice things, like a cotton shirt.

To equip items, go to your resident list (List -> Residents), tap on who you’d like to kit out, then tap Equipment on the lower screen. If you’d like to see what stats an item gives, check the readout on the bottom part of the screen. Watch out for equipment that have “Weak” appended to them, as this means that that equipment will actually lower some stats.

kingdom adventurers weak
This sword actually REDUCES HP levels by 2 while giving only 2 speed in return.

At the start of the game, the best way to get equipment is by opening treasure chests. You may also notice that any piece of equipment also has a letter before its actual name, such as F/Wooden Club. This letter denotes that item’s grade, and the higher, the better.

 “Idle” Heroes

Being able to dispatch heroes is great and all, but who will keep the town running when everyone’s out slaying dragons?

kingdom adventurers idle
Work work.

Idle heroes are heroes that haven’t been assigned to any deployment zone. This doesn’t mean that they’ll just bum around though, as idle heroes will chip in wherever they can, whether it’s building buildings, transporting goods (yes, even outside your city walls), and rescuing downed heroes. Idle heroes will also perform tasks as befits their class; farmers, for example, will also tend to your tree  plantations and farms if they’re not doing anything else.

Deployed heroes that see combat happening will assist their allies in combat. Be careful as this can lead to a slippery slope of heroes picking fights with a high-level enemy. However, heroes that aren’t assigned to deployment will not assist in combat, and will prioritize rescuing their downed comrades.

Adventure Awaits (Huzzah)!

How do you intend to grow your empire if you won’t even fight for your people? Conquering and subjugating monsters, dispelling the fog, and bringing back rare and valuable treasures for the good of the kingdom is a core part of the game. Remember: your ultimate goal is to rebuild the kingdom, and you’ll need to drive back the monsters and fog that want to keep the land in shambles.

Deployment

The main way your heroes can interact with the world around them is via the deployment menu.

kingdom adventurers deployment
Yes, fighting bugs and moving dirt is the best way to make a living. Trust me on this.

To deploy a hero, just tap on the Deploy icon on the right side of the map. Once you’ve selected who you want to deploy, select a spot on the map to send them to. While a hero is deployed, they’ll roam the diamond-shaped marker that you selected before deployment, digging up the ground around them to reveal resources, monsters, or even treasure. If there’s any fog in that diamond, the hero will also dispel that fog with their torch, giving you greater visibility and access to new zones.

kingdom adventurers green crystals
Leading by example. Nice.

Deploying isn’t free. To deploy a hero, you’ll need to pay energy – the green crystals. And the further the deployment zone from your town, the higher the cost to deploy a hero. In addition, if a hero is deployed in the same spot for a long time, you may need to pay additional energy for them to continue working the zone. If this happens, just tap the energy icon above the hero’s head when the “Reopen” button appears.

To help offset the high energy cost of frequent deployment, you can invest in infrastructure that will help alleviate your energy woes. Buildings such as the energy storage and energy mine increase your energy cap and produce energy over time, respectively.

kingdom adventurers energy mine
Diggy diggy hole, diggy diggy hole.

Before you confirm deployment, take note of the level tab that hovers above your hand. That indicates the level of the zone you’re currently on. This way, you won’t send new heroes to an untimely death in a zone they’re ill-prepared for. Also, be aware that some monsters can become buffed and/or wander in from a higher level zone – I’m not sure which. Just keep a constant eye out on the dangers beyond your walls, and try to keep your heroes away from tasks they’re not prepared for.

Heroes can and will get resources from water tiles. If they’re deployed near water, they’ll build bridges (more like pontoons?) on waters, which acts as if they’d dug up that tile.

Finally, if you can’t deploy to an area you used to be able to, you might have deployed a territory-expanding building nearby. You can never deploy to areas that you already own.

Restoring Health

Getting wounded is just part and parcel of being a hero. Whether it’s from defending your town from attacking monsters or losing health in combat, you’ll need a way to restore health.

kingdom adventurers sleep
Night-night.

The most common way that heroes restore health is by sleeping. At the end of a day, or when a hero drops below a certain health threshold, they’ll either pitch up a tent or use a facility, or better yet, their house, to sleep. This power nap doesn’t just restore health, but also replenishes lost vigor.

This doesn’t mean that heroes can heal whenever they feel like it. Heroes cannot retreat from combat, so if they can’t beat the monster, they will become incapacitated. For those times, you’ll need to use health items, such as Recovery Potions (which are premium items, so be judicious). Do note that these items will only apply to heroes in the overworld. Heroes in instances such as dungeons and boss fights will not be healed by them.

kingdom adventurers beat
When I said “send help”, I meant it.

There are also facilities that can heal heroes if they don’t need a long nap. Buildings like the well or bench will be used by heroes to quickly top up their health.

While we’re on the topic, note that even if a hero is saved from death by being rescued in time, their health isn’t automatically replenished.

Wait, death?

Death: An Occupational Hazard

You heard me right – your heroes can actually die in Kingdom Adventurers.

kingdom adventurers lifespan
Be wary of death by the way why is it always death?

Excluding your monarch, each hero has a lifespan stat that can be seen by going to their stat page. If a hero’s hit points hit zero and they aren’t rescued by anyone else, they’ll still be able to get up – but their lifespan stat will be reduced by one. And if their lifespan ever hits, zero, that hero is gone forever. However, your monarch has special protection in this regard in that they don’t have a lifespan stat, so they can get beaten up as much as they want (do not do this).

kingdom adventurers down
AAAAAHHHHH I NEED A MEDIC BAG!

There are ways to get around this. As I mentioned earlier, a downed hero still has a chance to be rescued by another hero, with a timer of two minutes, and rescuing downed heroes is treated by the game as an urgent task in that it will immediately send an idle hero to rescue a downed one. Because of this, it’s a good idea to always have some idle heroes so that downed heroes can get the medical attention they need. You should also pay attention to heroes walking around in casts – this means that their HP is at critical levels and they’ll need a break to recover.

Later on in the game, you’ll gain access to a chapel and the Monk hero class, who can restore one point of missing lifespan to wounded heroes. You can also use cash items like the Homeopathic Elixir to restore missing lifespan.

Treasure!

The island’s former residents left a lot of useful things laying about in the form of treasure chests. These chests contain useful resources, equipment, and other valuable items that can boost town development, so be sure to nab them whenever you can.

What have we here?

There are two kinds of treasure chests: one refers to the item, which needs to be opened in town, while the other refers to the big treasure chests strewn about the map.

On-map treasure chestscan be collected in two ways: either your territory expands to reach the chest, in which case all you have to do is tap on the chest to collect it. The other way is to deploy adventurers near the chest, in which case you’ll be able to tap on the chest to claim it. Chests found in this manner can also be visibly damaged, meaning that nearby heroes will need to work on them a little bit before they can be opened.

These chests contain items like equipment and mundane resources, but may also hold more valuable loot such as more buildings, rank up materials, and hero equipment. Make sure to nab every treasure chest you can realistically reach!

Item treasure chests will need to be brought back to town by a nearby hero (usually the same hero that finds the chest), and will need a treasure research lab to open the chests, because somehow the locks on these things are so technologically advanced that you need to devote research to them. Gameplay-wise, this means that it’ll take some time to open chests.

Boss Monsters

As you explore the land around you, you may discover powerful boss monsters. These baddies are responsible for generating the thick fog that blankets the island, and thus, defeating them is a big step in restoring peace, as well as unveiling large areas of fog!

And he’s got a hostage too.

Boss conquests can be initiated by tapping the Vanquish icon above the boss monster in question. After you tap this, you’ll be prompted to select heroes to participate in the quest. The button isn’t immediately apparent, so tap the gray tab that appears, the one with the fraction showing the current and max heroes for the quest. Note that your monarch will always lead a boss conquest, so be sure you’re bulking them up.

An easy win.

Once your party has assembled, the boss fight will happen in a separate, instanced part of the map where both your team and the boss and its minions are immediately lined up, and they’ll duke it out. Note that you have to defeat all enemies, not just the boss, to come out victorious!

Come into the light, shy shadow.

Taking down bosses should be among your top priorities as not only do you get a lot of resources and experience for beating them, but they also unlock new content such as hero classes, structures, and more. Bosses become visible from a further range on the world map, with a big “Boss” sign appearing on top of them. Once you find a boss, all that you need to do is to make a path to it through the fog.

Dungeons

As you dispel the fog around the island, you’ll eventually unearth dungeons.

My heroes see danger, I see opportunity.

Dungeons will keep producing monsters that will harass your town and be a general nuisance. On the other hand, you can also clear a dungeon to stop it from spawning monsters, as well as earning a lot of experience points and getting some sweet loot.

How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?!

Dungeons will be marked on the map with a big Vanquish sign. Tap that sign, then tap the adventurer count at the top of the screen (just like with boss conquest parties) to assign heroes to clear the dungeon. Do note that unlike boss conquests, your monarch cannot participate in dungeon quests.

Monster Invasions

You didn’t think that you were the only one that could deploy units, did you? At night, monsters can and will invade your town.

Worker harassment is a valid strategy in any game about combat.

Be wary of invasions, especially if you’ve committed your best fighters to other places on the island. Monsters can make quick work of your logistics crew, who are likely specced into non-combat stats and have equipment for worker roles. If your town is unprotected, monsters can wipe everyone in your town out, leading to lifespan loss.

To help defend against monster attacks, try to have at least some guards in your town at all times. But better yet, build actual walls to replace your crappy fence walls as soon as you can. You’ll get wooden wall blueprints at roughly around Town Hall rank 10.

Ushering in The New Golden Age

The tools to succeed are now in your hands. Will you rise, or will you fall? I hope that, alongside this guide, you’ll be equipped with enough knowledge to establish a new town with a solid base, and understand all the mechanics you need moving forward. Believe it or not, I’ve barely scratched the surface. As you grow your kingdom and expand your borders, you’ll unlock even more features such as friend codes and cooperating with other players!
