Grid! is a new puzzle game for iOS devices by Steven Cravotta. According to the developer, this is a title with very unique and simple gameplay. In the game you’ll be dropping blocks to create new lines and erase existing ones, may they be vertically or horizontally. You’ll also have to avoid letting the blocks take up the entire screen. Sounds familiar? If you think this game sounds a lot like a Tetris clone, then you are partially right. The gameplay is indeed reminiscent of Tetris, but the game itself comes with different modes, leaderboards for each mode, as well as power-ups which can help you in clearing out the board and increasing your score.
If you’ve played Tetris before – and we’re guessing you have – then the basics of the game probably need no further explanation. But Grid! does have its own share of twists on the classic formula, and that’s why you’ll still want to check out our list of Grid! tips and tricks below.
1. Explaining The Two Basic Modes
Classic Mode is pretty much a twist on basic Tetris, so you should have no problem in here. You will, however, want to have a fast pair of thumbs when playing Hustle Mode, which is Classic Mode, only much faster. You have just three seconds to place a piece on the board, and if you aren’t able to do so, then you automatically lose the round. But you need not worry if you buy the farm earlier than you had hoped – in Classic and Hustle Mode, you can watch an ad video in order to restart where you had last left off.
2. About Rotate Mode, And Why You Should Practice In It
The third game mode is Rotate Mode, which has similar mechanics to Classic Mode, but only giving you the option to rotate you piece before you place it down. You can rotate the piece as often as you feel is necessary, and this mode doesn’t have any kind of time limit. This makes Rotate the easiest of the three modes, and thusly a good place to hone your skills.
3. Work Around The Edges
As a basic tip for playing Grid!, you’ll want to work mainly around the edges. The only time you should place pieces in the middle is if it’s really needed. That reduces the odds of empty blocks stacking up to unmanageable heights, and also helps keep the board clear. Focus on making sure the board is as clear as possible and you should have no problem racking up a high score.
4. Watch Videos For Free Gems
Gems or diamonds are the game’s premium currency, and as we said earlier, you’ll use those gems to buy power-ups. Ordinarily, you’ll have to pay real money to buy diamonds/gems, but you can also click on the bottom option in the in-app store to watch an ad video. Once the video is complete, you will earn free gems in just about 30 seconds tops (the length of each video).
5. How Can The Power-Ups Help?
Lastly, you may be wondering about this one – you’ve got the gems, and you’ve got power-ups to buy, so which ones can help you? There’s one that allows you to reload the next-tile list, as well as another one that’s akin to a bomb. That means it blows up all tiles on your board and reloads the next-tile list. As bombs are harder to come by, you wat to use them only in emergency situations.
