Pocket Mortys Tips, Tricks & Strategy Guide: 12 Hints You Need to Know

Pocket Mortys is a new game from Adult Swim Games based on Adult Swim’s popular animated series Rick and Morty, and it’s now out for Android and iOS. The game invites you to “join Ricks throughout the multiverse as they get swept up in the latest craze: Morty training!” All in all, the game has over 70 bizarre Mortys for you to recruit and train; you will then assemble a team of Mortys, then challenge rival Ricks by forcing you grandsons to battle each other. Sounds weird, right? Yes indeed it is, but that’s actually a good thing – if you’re familiar with Rick and Morty, you’re sure to have fun in this game.

Of course, it wouldn’t be all too fun if you aren’t able to get things right at first. That’s why we have come up with a unique set of Pocket Mortys tips, tricks and strategies that will help you get started, or help you move forward if you’ve been playing the game for a while but have gotten stuck somewhere.

1. Know Your Surroundings

If you’re just starting out in the game, the first thing you’ll want to do is to know your way around the in-game world. The most important buildings, we’d say, include the Healer and Day Care, which aren’t too far off, the Portal, Rick’s Sales, and the part of the Citadel, a.k.a. the main area, where the other Ricks can be found. You can go ahead and fight them once you’ve accumulated enough badges. You will also encounter some non-playing characters, and the only NPCs you might want to talk to are the ones who have an exclamation mark above their heads. These would be few and far in-between, though, and we will be explaining this to you in a little bit.

2. New Worlds Are Randomized After You Travel Through The Portal

Always keep this in mind – when you enter the portal and enter a new world, it’s 100 percent random. The good thing, however, is that you can find other people to fight, and that they’re often easy to sneak up on. You’ll also find more Mortys to fight and collect, provided you have Morty Manipulator Chips with you. In addition, you’ll always have a boss battle to look forward to – that’s the Rick who’s stationed next to the portal. Defeat this Rick and you’ll earn a badge so you can return to the main area.

3. About Badges And Manipulator Chips

It’s really very simple – the more Ricks you defeat, the more badges you can earn. And with more badges comes more items you can buy at the store. With your first badge, you will unlock the Morty Manipulator Chip. We already mentioned this chip above; this is going to help you collect more Mortys once you travel through the portal. As such, you’ll need at least one Manipulator Chip with you whenever you travel through the portal.

4. After Teleporting, Collect Everything

As we mentioned above, you’ll get sent to a random are after you arrive through the portal. Explore these new worlds completely and make sure you’re fighting – and defeating – as many trainers as possible. There are also items you will want to collect as you can use them for crafting, and also a slew of free Mortys you can add to you collection.

5. Collecting More Mortys – How Do You Do This?

The aforementioned Morty Manipulator Chip is just what you need to collect more Mortys in the game. Once you’ve got a chip, you can fight Feral Mortys, or wild Mortys. Reduce their health to the best of your capability and use a chip once their health is very low, and you’ll end up collecting them and adding them to your team. Excess Mortys (those you collect once you’ve got a full party) get sent to the Day Care center in the Citadel; that ensures you of never losing the Mortys you collect.

6. Mortys Have Elements Too

Pocket Mortys has a few RPG elements in it, and that includes the elemental system for each Morty. Think of it as the classic rock-paper-scissors mechanic at work; rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, paper beats rock. Keep this elemental system in mind when you’re building up your party; have all three elements covered and send specific Mortys of given elements out based on the elements you’ll be facing. But how do you know what kind of Morty you’ll be up against? It’s simple – you can check those elements before the start of the battle, behind Rick or their collector. After beating the first Morty, you can switch to another Morty for free; use this to gain an elemental advantage, but don’t use it right away. That’s because switching Mortys in battle will normally cost you a move.

7. What Basic Battle Strategies Can You Utilize?

When you start fighting the battles in the new world, you’ll typically have two options. The first, and more advisable option is to battle the Rick at the portal; that’s the boss battle we mentioned earlier. Beat this Rick and you’ll earn a badge, and after that, you can go ahead and fight more trainers for more items and cash.

If you want to level your Mortys up and/or collect more items, that’s where the second main option comes in. That would be to fight the trainers first, and fight as many of them. This may reduce your chances of winning the boss battle at the portal, but the good thing here is that you keep all the things you ended up collecting. Once all your Mortys are killed in battle, head back to the main area to regroup.

8. More Advanced Fight Strategies

Your starting Morty is different from the others, as he does not have any elements associated to him. This could actually benefit you, because when you start a battle, you won’t know the enemy type you’ll be facing, and you will often be fighting a never before seen Morty. That, in other words, is a hit-or-miss situation. Use that element-less Morty as your starter, or for situations where bonuses aren’t needed, but penalties aren’t given out. It’s also a wise move to upgrade your no-element Morty and make sure his attack skills are fairly advanced.

The elemental advantage strategy is certainly one way in which you can win more battles. As for attacks, it’s actually a wiser thing to do if you use your stronger attacks before the weaker ones. Just save on those big attacks and use only a handful of those strong ones during trainer fights, so you can have some left over for the bigger fights. Many claim boosters and penalties do not really have much bearing in battle; we’ve heard reports of accuracy penalties not really reducing a Morty’s accuracy, or conversely, accuracy boosts not doing much to benefit a Morty. Use the elemental system, focus on powerful attacks early on, and you’ll have a solid chance to win most battles, if not all.

Talking about items, such as serums/healing potions, make sure you’ve got enough with you, especially for the various serum types. While you can use the Halzinger to revive a Morty, it will invariably be more affordable to heal your Mortys with potions, and act quickly while they haven’t gotten dazed/”killed” yet.

9. Buy Items From Salesman Rick

One Rick you can trust in this game is Salesman Rick; go to the menu and tap on the corresponding icon, even if you’re at a battle. If you’re looking for some last-minute serum/potions or any other item you need at the eleventh hour, or are probably in need of more Morty Manipulator Chips, buy ‘em from Salesman Rick.

10. The Evolution Of Your Mortys

The Day Care serves another purpose aside from storing your extra Mortys, or those you don’t want/don’t need. If you’ve got duplicate Mortys – and this is bound to happen at some point – you can go to the Citadel and pop over at the Day Care. It’s there where you can evolve your duplicates and combine them for a better, more powerful Morty. So don’t feel bummed out if you’ve gotten yet another dupe; duplicates can be evolved, and more powerful characters will always benefit your team.

11. Craft Items With Your Loot

After each victorious battle, you’ll earn some valuable loot, which may contain some much-needed crafting items. Crafting benches can be found all over the Citadel, so go visit them when you’re ready to craft something and have a recipe for it. Fortunately, we’ve got a list of recipes for Pocket Mortys, so do check that out if you want to get the crafting right the first time around.

12. Wheel And Deal In The Citadel

Yes, just as we said several tips ago, you can talk to NPCs who have exclamation marks (or question marks) over their heads. That means you can trade with them; they typically ask for items, and if you’ve got that item, don’t hesitate to give it to them. You’ll be rewarded in most cases anyway, by getting a much better item for your act of kindness.
