Wizard of Oz: Magic Match Tips, Tricks & Guide to Complete More Three-Star Levels

Wizard of Oz: Magic Match is a new game from Zynga that, as you may have guessed from the title, is a Match 3 game based on the Wizard of Oz franchise. Indeed, it’s hardly conceivable that these games will be going out of style anytime soon, as they’re simple enough for non-game aficionados to pick up and get addicted to, and for hardcore gamers to relax to. And those Match 3 games with celebrity or iconic franchise tie-ins, as we’re seeing, just keep on coming in, with this new Android and iOS title (as expected) being the latest in the bunch. You can expect classic Match 3 mechanics to be present in this game, but with the twists and turns therein being inspired by, or based on The Wizard of Oz and its characters. For example, you can use items such as Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers and the Tin Man’s axe to your advantage in this game.

Even if you’re a veteran of the Match 3 scene and played just about every game of this type conceivable, Zynga has made it a point to make Wizard of Oz: Magic Match as unique as possible, even with the vintage mechanics. So without further ado, let’s take you to our Wizard of Oz: Magic Match tips and tricks, where we shall show you how to complete more three-star levels.

1. No Time Limit, No Problem

If this is the first time you’re playing a Match 3 game, you’re in luck, as this isn’t one of the growing number of games that has some (or all) levels under time constraints. You’ve got all the time in the world to map out your plans and think of the best possible moves; though far simpler and more casual, Match 3 gaming is a lot like chess, as taking your time and making sure you’re making the best possible move is often rewarded.

2. About The Magic Butterflies

Magic butterflies are among the special pieces you can create in Wizard of Oz: Magic Match. You can create one by matching four items in a square formation, thus creating a magic butterfly of that color you matched. Butterflies will then land right away on a super item on the board, and they would then activate the super-item; think of how useful they could be if you’re in a bit of a jam and need to activate those items to complete the level! They can help you in many ways, such as by unlocking and activating a super item in a level where you’ve got to break all the ice blocks.

3. Take Advantage Of Glinda’s Presence (If She’S There)

You will notice in some levels that Glinda the Good Witch is lurking around to help you out in a pinch. If she’s present in a level, you should make the most out of her being there. For starters, you will see magic stars on the board in levels where she’s present, and matching those stars will fill up the magic meter found on the top right side of your screen, or right below Glinda. Completely filling up the magic meter will allow Glinda to help you out if you’re all out of moves or a ways to go before reaching your objective. This could mean having her change random pieces on the board into super pieces, or adding a couple moves to allow you to complete the level. Glinda could turn the tide for you in difficult levels, so make sure you’re helping yourself so that she can help you in return.

4. Match More Than Three Pieces To Create Super Items

Super Items are created once you match more than three pieces, so it’s extremely important that you don’t just go for matches of three, but for matches of four or more. Matching three pieces at a time may be what’s expected of you at the very least, but since you’ve got to make the moves count, you’ll want to take advantage of those matches of four, five, or more pieces, even when the game is suggesting you work on a match of just three. Now about those super items…

5. A Guide To The Super Items

The game calls them Super Items, so we might as well do the same. So what do these items do and how can they help you out? Let’s start out with Magic Beams, which are created when you match four of the same in a row or column. These pieces will match the entire row or column, depending on where you formed the piece. Magic Butterflies, which we covered earlier, fly to nearby Super Items and activate them automatically, and also destroy objects related to level objectives.

Matching five pieces in an L or a T shape will create Magic Bubbles, which are the game’s equivalent of bombs. Move them around to match all items in their radius. Glinda’s Crystal Ball is formed when you match five of the same item in a row, and it is quite useful as it matches all items of the same kind when you match it with any other item. Matching six items in a T-shape will do much more, though, as that creates the Ultimate Lollipop, or an item that repaints all regular items you swap it with, matching them in the process.

You can also match two Super Items in one go, which could take out more of the board and have a more visible effect on the board, thus giving you more points and a better chance of a three-star level.

6. Keep Your Objectives In Mind

This is something we probably shouldn’t be reminding you of, but since it’s very easy to get lost in the heat of the moment, we should remind you of it nonetheless. For each level, you should remember the objectives so you can plan your moves accordingly, and determine whether the move you’re making will bring you closer (or not) to achieving the objective you’re gunning for.

For now, this would be our list of tips and tricks for Wizard of Oz: Magic Match. Stay tuned, as we will update this guide, once we discover more tricks!
