TMNT: Mutant Madness Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Cheats & Strategies to Save the World

Fans of Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michaelangelo should check out TMNT: Mutant Madness, a game that combines unit collecting, lair building, and online battles while the half-shelled heroes race through different dimensions to save the world.

TMNT: Mutant Madness is far from being the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for mobile devices. However, it is the first one for Kongregate, which is also the publisher behind money making idle game AdVenture Capitalist, cartoon-based card battler Animation Throwdown, and adventure RPG Battlehand, among many other popular mobile games.

TMNT: Mutant Madness features simple but deep mechanics, with various modes that make sure you will always have something to do. With a crazy and engaging story, players will keep coming back to the game to upgrade their heroes and lair, progress through the levels, and find out what happens to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Below, we will share with you a bunch of tips, cheats and strategies for TMNT: Mutant Madness in a complete beginner’s guide, so be sure to stick with us to find out how to dominate your enemies and save the world!

1. Upgrade Your Heroes

As with any hero collecting game, one of your main priorities in TMNT: Mutant Madness is to keep upgrading your team so that you can keep moving forward. Without doing so, your characters will never be able to beat the increasingly powerful enemies that you will encounter in Adventure, the game’s story mode, and the competitive teams in Dimension Clash, the game’s player vs. player mode.

how to level up heroes in tmnt mutant madness

The primary way of powering up your characters is by using Ooze, which is an in-game currency obtained from beating stages, completing quests, and opening chests. You may spend Ooze to level up your heroes, with more Ooze required as you increase a character’s level.

Your chances of winning battles TMNT: Mutant Madness are higher when you have a complete team of five, which means that instead of focusing all your Ooze to make one overpowered hero, it would be better to upgrade your chosen team of five to similar levels.

The game generously gives players chances at acquiring new heroes, but even so, you should not hold back on spending Ooze to level up your current team. You might be thinking of keeping some Ooze in your inventory so that you can instantly bring a newly acquired hero to higher levels. However, it is a better choice to power up your team so you can keep moving through stages in Adventure, instead of waiting for an indefinite time to acquire a specific hero on who you will spend all the Ooze on.

Another way to increase the power of your team is by equipping them with the best items in your inventory. If you see an exclamation point over the Equipment icon when looking at your heroes, that means that there is a possible equipment upgrade for that character. All you need to do is to tap on the Equip All button to outfit that hero with the best possible items that you have in your inventory.

2. Choosing Your Team

TMNT: Mutant Madness is not just all about upgrading heroes though, as you will also need to make a decision on which heroes to upgrade. While it is possible, albeit time-consuming, to level up all your characters, the best option is to focus on upgrading the five heroes that will make up your main team.

To help you decide on who should compose your team, you should learn about the roles given to each hero. Each hero has two roles, which may be viewed by tapping on their icon in the Heroes screen.

tmnt mutant madness tricksters

While you have the liberty of mixing and matching heroes to form your most effective team, one of the best set-ups is to have a Tank and at least two Tricksters. This will allow the Tank to absorb damage and the Tricksters to disable enemies, giving your other heroes time to wipe out the opponents.

This set-up is also particularly effective against boss fights, especially teams that have three Tricksters, as once the weaker enemies are defeated, your team will be able to render the boss unable to make any actions while you whittle away at their life total.

The heroes in TMNT: Mutant Madness range from 1-star to 5-star heroes, with extra copies of characters contributing to increasing a hero’s stars. Heroes with higher stars should be chosen to join your team over those with lower stars, as they will have better stats even if they are at a lower level.

Lastly, while you will spend most of your time in Adventure mode, you will eventually unlock Dimension Clash, which will let you battle against the teams of other TMNT: Mutant Madness players. Your team in this mode, however, may be different from your go-to team in Adventure mode. You might not need that many Tricksters, for example, as you may want to go with heroes that deal damage to multiple enemies at once, or heroes that deal significant burst damage to immediately take out the opponent’s Tank.

3. Activate Hero Drive Whenever Possible

For you to be able to properly choose the heroes that will make up your team, you should have several characters in your collection. The primary way of acquiring heroes in TMNT: Mutant Madness is through the Hero Drive, which you may access by tapping the Get More Heroes button in the Heroes screen.

The Hero Drive uses up different kinds of Hero Bits, depending on the number of stars for your summoned hero. Hero Bits for 4-star heroes are harder to come by compared with Hero Bits for 2-star heroes, but there is no reason for you to delay summoning new units whenever you have the chance. Always check if there is an exclamation point on the Get More Heroes button, which means that you have enough Hero Bits to summon a new hero.

Getting duplicates of a hero that you already have isn’t a waste, as extra copies will increase a character’s Dimension Level and will eventually increase their stars. This will improve their stats and give your team a better chance of winning battles.

4. How To Win Battles

To win battles in TMNT: Mutant Madness, whether in Adventure mode or in Dimension Clash, your heroes need to be in proper places during battle. At the center should be your Tank, so that he can receive the most attention from the opponent’s strongest unit, who is always in the same position. Your long-range attackers should be at the back of the formation, and it is an added bonus if they are your Tricksters, as your other team members will protect them so they can disrupt your enemies for a while.

With the proper placement and enough upgrades, you should be able to keep winning battles while Auto mode is activated. If you keep losing, it is worth a shot to try manually issuing commands, which enables you to choose the target of your heroes’ skills. To do so, tap and hold on a character’s icon at the bottom once their skill meter is filled up, then slide your finger to the opponent that you want your hero to target.

5. Focus Lair Upgrades On Collecting Ooze

One of the benefits provided by the Lair in TMNT: Mutant Madness is its production of valuable resources, namely Ooze, Scrap, and Hero Bits.

Scrap is the material that is used to upgrade the rooms of the Lair, so you should first get the level of the Scrap Collector room high enough to be producing a good amount. You will also be able to acquire Scrap from completing missions, so there is more than one source of the material.

The primary focus of Lair upgrades, however, should be on the Ooze Refinery. This is because Ooze is the gateway material in the game – how much Ooze you have acquired and spent is directly related to how far you can go in TMNT: Mutant Madness.

The Research Lab and Advanced Lab, which create 2-star Hero Bits and 3-star Hero Bits, respectively, could also use some upgrades, but their low production even at higher levels makes them unreliable sources for Hero Bits. It is nice to have rooms that make these materials, but it is faster to acquire the necessary Hero Bits to activate the Hero Drive from other methods.

6. Hoard Rewards

You will get rewards from completing stages in Adventure mode, but the more lucrative rewards will come from accomplishing the goals displayed at the top of the screen, the Season Pass quests, and participating in events.

Most of the game’s goals and the Season Pass quests may actually be obtained while you normally play the game, including achievements of beating certain stages and participating in Dimension Clash fights, for example.

tmnt mutant madness upgrade goal

There are also goals to upgrade a hero to certain levels, which you should not reach for when it is still difficult to do so. You may end up with one overpowered character in a weak team, for a reward that will not make up for the effort of pulling up a hero’s level.

The Economy Events in TMNT: Mutant Madness also allow you to rack up points for spending in-game resources, which is another reason to not hold back in using Ooze and Scrap to make upgrades.

It takes a while before you can reap the rewards, but Events offer huge bonuses if you can make it to the higher rankings.

Another source of rewards are the Daily Free Box and the Radical Tier Box. The Daily Free Box gives improving rewards for every tier that you claim, up to six tiers, and it takes an increasingly longer time between each tier. You should always check if the next tier of rewards is ready for claiming, as you should claim all tiers within 24 hours or else your progress will reset without getting all of the possible rewards.

The Radical Tier Box works in a similar way, but instead of giving free rewards and resetting daily, it requires you to spend an increasing number of Gems to move up the tiers. Gems are TMNT: Mutant Madness’ premium currency, and outside of the last tier of the Daily Free Box and the paid Season Pass, it is very rare to acquire in the game. You should have enough Gems at the start of the game to buy the first tier though, which you should do so right away to unlock Michaelangelo, a powerful Trickster who can stun multiple opponents at a time.

Lastly, don’t forget to check your Inventory, accessible through the Menu screen, for Ooze Canisters and Scrap Piles. These are consumable items that give you Ooze and Scrap equivalent to your Lair’s production over a certain number of hours. You should always use them right away, but only after spending all the Scrap that you have to upgrade your Ooze Refinery and Scrap Collector.

7. Take The Offers To Watch Ads

TMNT: Mutant Madness is an ad-supported game, and you will receive various bonuses whenever you choose to watch them. The option to watch ads will appear in the Lair for 2-star Hero Bits and after battles for extra rewards.

You may also watch ads through the 2X icon in the Adventure screen for additional rewards and Lair production, which you can stack up to six times by watching six ads so that the bonus will last for a full 24 hours.

Watching the 30-second ads are not a requirement, but the bonuses that they provide will immensely help with upgrading your heroes and rooms. If you have the time, always take the offer to watch ads when they appear.

8. Take A Break When Losing

When you hit a wall in TMNT: Mutant Madness, with your team no longer able to beat the current stage in Adventure mode after spending all your Ooze to upgrade your heroes, you have limited options. You can wait for the rewards from Dimension Clash and Events, you can collect all the tiers in the Daily Free Box, and you can check your Inventory if you have Ooze Canisters, to see if you can make your heroes strong enough to win.

The most reliable way of breaking through that wall, however, is through your Lair’s Ooze Refinery. In addition to upgrading the room by spending Scrap, you may also join a clan through the Clan Hall, also in the lair, to increase your speed of your Ooze production.

This means that you need to take a break from TMNT: Mutant Madness and wait for your Lair to collect a significant amount of Ooze, which you can then use to power up your heroes. Hopefully that is enough to advance in Adventure mode, but if it’s not, you can keep waiting more hours of Ooze production until you are finally able to claim victory.

And this wraps up our beginner’s guide for TMNT: Mutant Madness. Do you know any other tips or tricks for the game, that we haven’t mentioned in this guide? If so, feel free to drop us a line in the comments!

So the reward for completing stage 30 of the season pass gives you a parchment with a symbol on it, what purpose does this serve? Thank you in advance!
