1. Pick The Right Team Members

One of the good things about this game is that you get to choose the members of your team right after tapping the Fight button. This means you don’t have to build a team ahead of time and you will be able to adjust your team composition in each battle. When building a team, you will be asked to choose only one of each color. That means you cannot have two red characters even if you don’t mind not having a yellow one on your team. That is because you need to have a character for each gem color on the board.

When choosing your team members, power is definitely a consideration. You would want to pick the strongest characters for your team since you can’t really predict how many of each color will appear on the board. Make sure to always review the stats of each character by tapping and holding on their portrait. Another thing you should keep in mind is the skills of your team members. You should have at least one support character who can buff up his teammates, or at least debuff the enemy team.

As a final note, you should always have at least one Epic character on your team. This character will help carry the entire team through the stage. Of course, it would be great if you had an Epic lineup, but that would be further into the game. The good news is that you will get Death Adder after the introductory stages, so just make sure you always have him on your team until you find someone better.

2. Check Your Power Rating

Each character on your team has a power rating. Combining the ratings of all the members will determine the overall power of your team. Before you enter battle, make sure you check the recommended power rating of each stage. You will be able to see this easily on the map, so it is just a matter of being conscious of where to look. Never enter a stage that has a recommended power rating that is higher than the overall power of your team. It is also a good idea to avoid including a member whose power falls far behind that of the rest of the team. This will help ensure that each member of your team will actually be able to contribute to the fight.

3. Beef Up Your Heroes

While we are on the subject of power, one thing you should not neglect is keeping your team in top shape. Your starting team will be decent enough to get you through the early stages of the game. After that, you should be looking for better heroes to replace your starters with. The question now is, how much should you invest in your starting team?

The answer mostly depends on your progress in the game, but the general rule is only until they are level 20. Upgrading and limit breaking a character will cost you resources. However, the resources needed to do these things for characters below level 20 are negligible. That means you don’t need to hesitate in upgrading your starters up to that point. In fact, you will need to do so because the better characters in the game require 50 or more shards to unlock, and that will take a long while to farm.

To upgrade a hero, you will need to collect certain items. You will see what item you need by going to that character’s page. If you don’t have the needed parts, just tap on the item you are lacking to find out where you can farm for it. Keep in mind that you might need to unlock the specific stages first before you can farm, though.

4. Play Through The Campaign

As we mentioned earlier, you will be using your starting team for quite a while. You will need to unlock the rest of the features of the game before you can go on to recruit better heroes. The good news is, simply playing through the campaign stages is enough to get you to the player level needed to unlock everything you need. Playing in campaign mode will also give you access to stages where you can farm for upgrade materials, so it is a win-win situation. Just keep following and replaying campaign stages until you are able to recruit a better lineup for your team.

5. Know Who To Target

Once you enter the actual battle, there are a few things you should keep in mind. The first thing is to know which enemy to prioritize. You can get away with randomly choosing a target during the early stages but you will quickly find yourself in trouble if you continue with that strategy. Make sure you take note of the different characteristics of the enemies you go up against. After a while, you will be able to tell which enemies to watch out for.

A good rule is to get rid of the weakest enemies first just so you can reduce the number of people hitting you. After that, the entire team can gang up on the strongest member of the enemy team. The only exception to this is when you discover that the low-damage enemies are quite tanky. If that’s the case, it would take you too long to finish them off and you will end up getting beat up by the strongest enemy. When that happens, it is better to get rid of the highest damage first then take your sweet time whittling away at the tanky enemy’s health.

6. Watch The Number Of Turns

Each enemy you face will have a turn counter above them. This indicates when they will attack. Make sure you pay attention to it because it is another thing to consider when choosing your target. It is generally a good idea to target those who have high counters because you will be able to kill them before they reach their turn. The exception to this is when you know that an enemy with a low counter is squishy enough to be killed in a single turn.

7. Keep Your Heroes Alive

The primary reason why you should always have a support character on your team is that you cannot afford to lose a member. Campaign stages normally have multiple waves before you reach the final boss. Even if just one member goes down, the entire team will be crippled in succeeding battles. Do everything you can to ensure every member of your team survives each wave, or you will most likely end up losing by the time you reach the boss wave.

8. Save Your Max Skills

Max skills are special attacks that can be used by your heroes once their mana bar has been filled up. You will know when a Max skill is ready when you see the word Max on their portrait. To activate the skill, just tap on the portrait of the hero. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that just because a skill is available does not mean you have to use it. Make sure you save your Max skills for stronger enemies or bosses. If you waste your skills on weaker enemies, you might not be able to refill the mana bar by the time you face a stronger opponent.

9. What Are Purple Gems For?

Since there are only four hero colors, you are probably wondering why you should match purple gems. Purple gems are for filling up the Rally meter, and it is something you want to do as soon as you can. Filling up the rally meter increases your team’s overall damage, and the boost increases the higher the rally level is. If that’s not enough, reaching certain rally levels will also empower hero skills. For example, Ax Battler’s Earthshaker skill is empowered when you hit rally level 2. Earthshaker will then stun enemies on top of dealing massive damage!

10. Look For Bigger Matches

The game is a puzzle RPG, which means you need to know how to play match-three puzzles if you want to succeed. To make a match, you need to line up three or more gems of the same color. That does not mean, of course, that you should just quickly match the first three gems you find. Matching gems will consume a turn regardless of the number of gems. That means you need to make the most out of each turn. Look for at least four or more matches in order to create a special tile while dealing more damage at the same time.

The special tiles you create can then be matched in order to trigger even bigger effects. The more gems you match, the more powerful the special tile becomes. The only time you should prioritize making three-gem matches is when you only have a weak enemy left and you want to save the bigger match for the following waves.

11. Upgrade Your Hero Skills

Once you have heroes that you actually want to keep around, you should start investing in their skills. Skill upgrades can be costly, so you don’t really want to do this a lot for your starter heroes. Upgrading skills will require Reagents. You will need a lot of these in order to fully upgrade all your hero skills. The good news is that you can farm for them. Just tap on the Reagent portrait from the skill upgrade screen to find where you can farm for them.

Keep in mind that Reagents are for upgrading Active skills. If you are wondering about Passive skills, you just need to increase the hero’s level to 10 to unlock it. Passive skills can greatly increase a hero’s combat potential, so make sure you rush to level 10 as soon as possible. For example, when Blaze Fielding unlocks her Blitz Fighter passive, she will be granted lightning speed that makes her the perfect killing machine.

12. Loot Three-Star Stages

Farming is a reality that all RPG players need to deal with. The good news is that there is an easy way to do it in this game. When you get a three-star rating for a stage, a Loot button will appear. All you have to do is tap on it in order to gain all the rewards for that stage. What is even better is that, unlike in most other games, you don’t need to have raid or loot tickets to do this. As long as you have stamina to burn, you will be able to loot to your heart’s content.

13. Work On Your Goals

The game gives you a list of tasks that you need to accomplish on a daily basis. Make sure you check these and complete all of them as much as you can. These tasks are designed to ensure that your progress within the game is on track. That in itself should be enough reason to work on your goals. Of course, the game will also reward you with chests as an added bonus. Chests contain various resources as well as a lot of player experience that will help you unlock more content in the game.

14. Competing In The Arena

One of your daily goals would include participating in the Arena battles. When you are still starting out, it is not really possible to climb high in the Arena. The best thing to do is to just aim for low-level opponents that you can defeat. You will still be able to fulfill your daily goal even if you lose a battle, so don’t worry too much. If you do win, however, a lot of good things will happen. Your rank will slowly increase with every win, which means you will also be entitled to better rewards. The Arena is the best place to earn character shards, so playing competitively is something you want to look into once you have a stronger team.

Choosing heroes to bring along in the Arena is slightly different compared to campaign mode. For one, status ailments are not as effective in the Arena. That means while Ax Battler’s stun sounds like a great idea, it would be better to replace him with someone who has a higher damage output instead. Raw damage is the name of the game when it comes to Arena battles.

Another thing to keep in mind in the Arena is that you will be sharing a board with your opponent. That means you don’t want to set up a lot of great matches because the enemy will just steal them in the next turn. You should also be careful in setting up your Star skills because your opponent can match them away. The good news is that you will also be able to see the enemy’s Star skills, allowing you to get rid of them before they can be used.

15. Survive As Long As You Can In Survival Mode

As the name suggests, the goal of this mode is to survive for as long as you can. You will be facing off wave after wave of opponents in this mode. Most of the strategies that you use in campaign mode is applicable here. The only major difference is that you will be able to change heroes in between battles. Since enemies grow stronger with each wave, it is a good idea to send out your mediocre heroes first to deal with the weaker enemies.

When the battles start getting tough, you can move up your list of heroes until you need your main team. The reason behind doing this is because your heroes’ life meters will carry over to the next wave. That means if you send out your strongest heroes first, they will end up taking damage before they even face off against the strongest enemies.

16. Hold On To Your Gems

Gems are the premium currency of the game and you won’t get a lot of it for free. Make sure you hold on to them and save up as much as you can. Once in a while, the game will feature limited-time packs that usually offer great deals, so wait until you find one that can help you out a lot. Don’t buy character shards with gems unless it is part of these limited-time packs. If you need character shards to complete goals, it is better to just get them through the Arena.
