Nexus War: Civilization Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Tricks & Strategies to Annihilate the Invaders

It’s time to spin the wheel to find out what today’s apocalypse will be. Zombie outbreak? Cute, but blasé. Global warming? Too close to home. Monsters from beyond the stars? It’s been done before…but sure, why not?

nexus war guide

In Nexus War: Civilization, you take on the shoes of a mysterious person named “S” who awakens to find a brave new world subsumed by interstellar horrors named astra. It’s up to you to rally the survivors of this broken universe to create an empire that can fight back not only these beasts but also other sentient beings that would see you fall. Those undaunted by the task at hand can get Nexus War: Civilization on either the Google Play Store or the App Store.

Like a lot of empire builders, Nexus War: Civilization suffers from a lack of a detailed tutorial, opting for a rather imposing “TAP HERE DO IT NOW” approach. Thus, when new players are left to their own devices, they may be lost and be left wondering exactly what to do now that the game isn’t pulling them along.

Experienced empire builder players, take note: you will already be familiar with most of the concepts here, so you’ll be fine without a beginner’s guide. If, however, you are totally new to the genre and chose Nexus War: Civilization as your first empire builder, I bid you welcome to this beginner’s guide that seeks to equip you with a solid understanding of the game’s basics so that you won’t just survive but thrive.

In this Nexus War: Civilization beginner’s guide, we’ll be covering:

  • Infrastructure – your various buildings, what they can do for you, and why you should upgrade them.
  • Economics – your resource generators, where to get more of the stuff, and how to budget.
  • Your army – the selectable races and which one is the best for you, how to raise an army, how to counter certain units, and so on.
  • Heroes – everything from getting more heroes to buffing the ones you already have.
  • Alliances and why you should join one. This is not a suggestion!

A Foreword: Your Beginner’s Shield

All empire builders, without exception, have what’s known as a beginner’s shield. In the case of Nexus War, the beginner’s shield is a 3-day buff that prevents you from being attacked or scouted by other players. At the same time, you won’t be able to take offensive actions against other players while your shield is up – not that you’re in any shape to do so!

nexus war shield
I am admittedly a big fan of the hexagon shield aesthetic.

Luckily for us, 3 days is a fair amount of time to get your city up and running, to amass a decent army, to train some heroes, and to find an alliance. Don’t get complacent though, as replacing your beginner’s shield is quite expensive!

Structures of A Bygone Age

Note that since I’m playing as the Aoku race, your buildings may not look like the ones here. They do, however, have the same regardless of what race you’re playing!

Quick Tips:

  • Hire an extra builder ASAP – you need the speed it gives you.
  • The city hall does nothing on its own but is intimately tied to progression.
  • It’s a good idea to save most (if not all) of your speed-ups for your city hall upgrades as those can take days, weeks, or months.
  • Barracks are where you train new units. Each unit type (infantry, artillery, tank) has its own barracks. The higher the barracks’ level, the more units it can train. Higher levels also unlock new tiers of units.
  • Never leave your barracks idle – it should always be upgrading or training new guys.
  • The Hall of Heroes is where you pull more heroes. Upgrading it slightly increases exp gain from killing monsters. Low priority in terms of upgrades.
  • Your armies assemble in the Titan Docks. One dock means one extra army on the world map. As you level up, you’ll gain the ability to build more docks.
  • A unit that falls in battle has a chance to be injured rather than killed. Injured units end up at the hospital.
  • You can heal all your injured units at the hospital, which is cheaper and faster than training new units.
  • Note that going over your wounded unit threshold causes all casualties to be deaths until you have more space.
  • The research center lets you research new technology in 4 fields. Like the barracks, your research center should never be idle.
  • The intelligence agency gives you opportunities on the overworld map. It can’t be upgraded.
  • The radar gives you more information when scouting and being scouted. Low priority in terms of upgrades until you’re going to dive into PvP.
  • The scout hangar houses and deploys scout drones to reveal terrain and information on the overworld. The higher its levels, the faster the drones move and the more drones it can house.
  • The alliance center affects your ability to receive help from your alliance members. It also buffs allied reinforcements, if there are any parked in your city.
  • The storage increases your “safe” resource cap. High priority if you’re going to be engaging in PvP a lot.
  • You can trade for resources and other goods at the intergalactic port. The higher its level, the faster new trade ships will come in and the more items they’ll have.
  • City wall upgrades increase the health and attack power of your defenses, thus deterring invaders.

Builders

As with most empire builder mobile games, you can only have one active construction or building upgrade at a time in Nexus War: Civilization. To remedy this, you can hire an additional worker (and thus be able to build/upgrade one more thing at once) by tapping the hammer icon on the upper left of the screen:

nexus war builder
Here.

Because of the sheer amount of catching up you’ll need to do in your 3 days of peace, I urge you to hire that second worker. It’s free anyway, as you’ll get a hiring item (whatever it is) over the course of your beginner missions.

The City Hall

Your city hall might not do much on its own (aside from seating S’s butt) but it’s a very important structure nonetheless. Most, if not all progression is tied to your city hall’s upgrade level, so you’ll need to constantly pump upgrades for it!

nexus war city hall
Appropriately ostentatious.

Empire builder games have this nasty habit of making central building upgrades take days, weeks, or in the most extreme cases, months. Thus, it’s prudent to save most (if not all) of your speed-ups for upgrading your city hall, especially if it would unlock a key technology or upgrade.

Barracks

The barracks are where you train and/or build your units. There are three unit types – infantry, artillery, and tanks, and you can have 1 of each barracks.

nexus war barracks
It’s a good idea to clump your barracks together – that way you can see if they’re idling or doing something.

The higher a barracks’ level, the more units it can train at once. Higher barracks upgrade levels also unlock new tiers of units – each exponentially more powerful than the last – so barracks upgrades should be second only to your city hall. The barracks should also never be idle as even low-tier units have their use, so be sure that you’re always producing new units or upgrading your barracks.

The Hall of Heroes

The Hall of Heroes is where you pull for heroes via the game’s gacha system.

nexus war hall of heroes
Complete with massive overcompensating holo-statue.

Upgrading the Hall of Heroes increases the amount of experience your heroes get when jungling (fighting monsters on the overworld). Because the amount of bonus experience each level gives is minute until the mid-to-high levels, I suggest that you ignore the Hall of Heroes upgrades for now and only upgrade it if you must.

Titan Docks

Titan Docks house your Titan dropships, which your armies need to get around.

nexus war titan docks
Because land vehicles are so yesterday.

Docks are where you assemble armies before sending them out into the world. Each Titan Dock houses one dropship, and you’ll get more docks (and thus ships, and thus mobile armies) as you level up.

Leveling up a Titan Dock causes it to give a bigger buff to the armies using its dropship.

Hospital

The hospital is where you can heal units that are wounded, not killed.

nexus war hospital
AHHHHHHHHHHHH I *need* a medic bag!

When a unit falls in battle, there’s a chance that it will be injured instead of killed (the chance of this is 100% in PvE battles and much lower in PvP). To restore wounded units, you’ll need to treat them at the hospital. This is much, much cheaper than training a new batch of units, so take advantage of this feature and always heal your wounded troops.

The higher the hospital’s level, the more wounded it can house. Note that any wounded units that go over your capacity instantly die!

The Research Center

The research center is where all your science gets done because performing lab experiments on the floor is too grungy.

nexus war research center
No add-ons this time.

At the research center, you’ll be able to choose from four fields of study:

  • “City Development” spans economic upgrades, from faster resource generation to allowing you to harvest specific resource nodes on the overworld.
  • “Army Enhancement” improves the stats of your military units. Note that the highest tier of all units is locked behind the final research projects of this tree.
  • “Armaments” improves your supply lines and military support. This tree has techs that lower training time, healing time, training cost, and so on.
  • “Armies” improves the capabilities of your Titan dropships, allowing them to house more units, deploy more soldiers per troop, travel and resupply faster, and so on.
nexus war research
Your scientists should always be doing something.

The higher the level of your research center, the faster your research will be. Additionally, some technologies require the research center to be at a certain level. Like your barracks, the research center should never be idle. If you’re not presently upgrading the research center, try to make sure that something (anything, really) is being researched.

The Intelligence Agency

The intelligence agency serves as a quest hub.

nexus war intelligence agency
Or 911, really.

At the intelligence agency, you’ll see a bunch of quests that refresh over time. These quests usually involve dealing with astra monstrosities or rescuing survivors. To take a quest, tap on its icon in the intelligence screen – this will take you to the relevant overworld structure where you need to perform the quest.

nexus war intel
Technological beep-beep-boop sounds.

Be sure to regularly check your intelligence agency for quests and opportunities, as you can get not only resources but also more units!

The intelligence agency cannot be upgraded.

The Radar

The radar serves as your eyes and ears around your city. In other empire builders, the equivalent of this building would be the watchtower.

nexus war radar
No one thought of deploying jamming technology? Really?

The higher your radar’s level, the more detailed the reports it gives you. While it can still warn you of impending invaders at the lowest levels, higher levels can reveal the hero leading the enemy army or their army composition. Offensively, it can give you details such as who’s guarding a city, what their defense army is comprised of, and so on.

The radar is a low priority to upgrade until you get into PvP.

The Scout Hangar

The scout hangar is where you deploy robotic drones to reveal the layout of the overworld.

nexus war scout hangar
You’d think it would be a lot smaller as it only houses up to three drones.

Unlike most empire builders, Nexus War: Civilization’s overworld is covered in fog of war. To dispel this fog, you’ll need to send scout drones to scan the land and reveal what’s hidden in the mist, whether it’s monsters you can beat up, resources you can harvest, or sites you can plunder. The higher the level of the scout hangar, the more drones it can house (up to three) and the faster they’ll travel.

In the early game, you won’t really need to upgrade this as competition for low-level monsters is incredibly rare.

The Alliance Center

Your alliance center serves as the base of alliance operations. Your alliance mates can garrison units in any member’s alliance center in case that member is under attack, and those reinforcements will join the fight if ever the city is besieged.

nexus war alliance center
Handshakes and drinks, everyone.

A higher alliance center level allows you to receive more assistance from allies (more on that in the “Banding Together with Other Survivors” section) and gives a bigger buff to allied reinforcements.

Storage

The storage is where you stockpile your resources.

nexus war storage
Armed with the best in anti-player technology: the waist-high fence!

While you don’t need a storage to gather resources, storage will keep some of them safe, meaning that you’ll always have at least X amount of a resource after being raided. The higher the storage level, the higher the safe limit gets.

If you’re planning to fight a lot (or are being hit by other players a lot), prioritize upgrading the storage.

The Intergalactic Port

The intergalactic port is where you receive traveling merchant ships. Coincidentally, it also allows you to do business with these merchant ships.

nexus war intergalactic port
BUT YOU GOTTA CALL NOW.

You’ll be able to trade resources and premium currency for a random assortment of goods. The higher the level of your intergalactic port, the faster it will refresh and the more stock trade ships will carry.

Note that you can refresh the port’s stock twice per visit. The first refresh is free, but the second one will cost 300 premium currency.

City Walls

Any would-be raiders will need to contend with your city walls before they can get to your resources.

nexus war city wall
Yes, the wall fights back. This is the future, remember?

The higher the level of your walls, the more health and attack power it has, making it tougher for foes to enter your city. High-level walls can serve as a power deterrent as a city in a fortified location – especially near allies – will take time before it can be invaded, allowing allies to send assistance to injure or even kill the opposing army!

The Post-Apocalyptic Economy

Even after the end, the economy still needs to move. Units still need to be fed and armed and construction materials won’t come out of nowhere, after all. And while creating a running economy is surprisingly easy, the real challenge lies in balancing and maintaining it.

Quick Tips:

  • You can set up several resource generators in your base.
  • Don’t forget to upgrade new resource generators once you place them. The first few levels are instant and free!
  • You can mine from resource nodes outside your city. These are neutral grounds and you can be attacked by other players.
  • The bigger an army and the higher the load capacity stat of its members, the more resources it can bring back.
  • Fighting monsters yields not only basic resources but also speed-ups and hero items.
  • You must kill monsters in ascending levels. This isn’t type-locked; you can kill a level 3 Gulper and that will enable combat with all level 4 monsters.
  • You get a first-time kill bonus when defeating a monster at a level the first time. Unlike unlocking higher monster levels, you do get a bonus for fighting each type of monster; you get a first kill bonus for killing both a level 1 Gulper and a level 1 Boombug.
  • Anywhere there’s a yellow dot icon on your UI, tap it. The dot usually means there are freebies up for grabs.
  • Avoid using all your resource packs as “liquid” resources can be plundered by other players. Instead, save your resource packs for when you need them, such as before a city hall upgrade or a massive training project.

Resource Generators

Luckily for you, you have resource generators right at home. Structures such as farms, gas wells, and origen plants provide a continuous stream of resources that you can use to fund your war and development efforts.

nexus war resource generators
As with your barracks, it’s a good idea to keep these clumped together for easier collection.

Note that the higher the level of a resource generator, the faster it will produce resources and the more it holds, so upgrade them whenever you can. On the heels of that, the first few upgrade levels of almost any building are both free and instant, so be sure to juice up your resource generators once you plop them down.

Resource Nodes

Your passive resource generators will help keep the machine that is your empire running, but what if you need it to zoom? Enter resource nodes.

nexus war resource node
Ripe for the taking.

Resource nodes are publicly available sources of materials on the world map. Anyone can mine these, though do be mindful if they’re inside an alliance’s territory (which usually means it’s theirs) and that you can be attacked while on a resource node, as they’re considered neutral territory.

To gather from a resource node, you’ll need to dispatch an army to its tile. Look for units with a high load capacity stat as that represents how many of a resource that unit can gather per instance – for example, 100 units that have a load stat of 4 can mine up to 400 of a resource before returning to deposit.

Note that you can use the search function if you’re looking for specific resource nodes. To do that, tap on the magnifying glass in the lower right…

nexus war search
Here.

…then select the resource you’re looking for.

Fighting Monsters

Fighting monsters on the overworld, or jungling as the game likes to put it (despite not being in a jungle nor being a MOBA) is a great way to earn not only resource packs but also speed-ups, hero items, hero exp, and more.

nexus war bug
Sorry, little bug. Your fault for being full of precious resources.

There are several species of monsters in Nexus War: Civilization. Gulpers yield megafruit, Boombugs drop cohegen, Pyroslugs drop pyrostone, Drillers yield aetherion, and Scrabblers give origems. Targeting the right monster type can more than make up for deficiencies in your resource pool!

To fight a monster on the map, simply tap on it, then dispatch an army to attack it. Note that monsters can only be fought in ascending order: you’ll need to kill a level 1 monster before you can fight a level 2 monster, and so on. Fortunately, you don’t need to do this per monster type. You can also search for monsters like resource nodes using the search function.

You also get a first-time kill bonus when you kill a monster for the first time. Unlike unlocking monsters, you do get this bonus each time you kill a new monster of a new level!

Free Resources

There are a lot of free resources to be had in Nexus War: Civilization. Anywhere there’s a yellow number dot like this…

nexus war free resources
Very eye-catching too.

…there are freebies waiting to be claimed. Tap on all of them to claim rewards from leveling up, for completing dailies and missions, and so on.

Your VIP Level

Speaking of free resources, let’s talk about your VIP level.

nexus war vip
I can think of a ton of things “VIP” stands for.

Your VIP level can be seen beside your profile while in your city. The higher your VIP level, the more daily freebies you get and the more passive bonuses you get. A high VIP bonus gives you a ton of buffs, such as more resource production, faster training time, and quicker research – all of which means that if you’re going to play competitively, you’ll want to raise your VIP level. Fortunately, this increases passively based on how many consecutive logins you’ve done. The longer you maintain your login streak, the more VIP points you get. Alternatively, you could just buy VIP points for premium currency.

nexus war vip shop
For select clientele only…

At higher VIP levels you’ll also gain access to the VIP shop. This is a special storefront that contains a ton of resources and goodies like buffs, speed-ups, equipment, and so on. The higher your VIP level, the more items become available to you.

Resource Packs and Resisting Temptation

Now that you have all these resource packs, you’re going to save them.

You heard me.

nexus war resource pack
Resist!

Resource packs give you a massive amount of “liquid” resources – the ones you see at the top of your screen – but there’s a catch here. Liquid resources are plunderable by your enemies, meaning that an ill-timed resource pack burst can leave you a prime target for raiders.

Instead, it’s best to save your resource packs for when you’re about to make a big push, either in upgrading buildings (the city hall is once again the main culprit) or training a massive number of high-tier units. Pop only the resource packs you need and don’t go over. Yes, you have a storage to protect your resources, but it only takes a momentary lapse in judgment to majorly spill over your safe resource cap!

Mustering The Troops

Now that you know what your buildings can do and how to keep the wheels of your empire turning, it’s time to turn your attention to your army. Rank-and-file soldiers may not be flashy or particularly skilled, but learning to manage your hordes and armies is a necessary skill for any commander.

Quick Tips:

  • There are four races in Nexus War: Civilization, each with its own bonuses.
  • I recommend avoiding Theia in the early game as it’s more relevant when you’re going to war with other players.
  • All units of stats; the higher a unit’s tier, the higher its stats.
  • Units can be retrained into higher-tier ones if you unlock a new tier. This is cheaper and faster than training new units of that tier.
  • Infantry beats artillery, artillery beats tanks, and tanks beat infantry. You can improve this bonus at the research center.
  • It’s a good idea to focus on tanks in the early game due to their balanced stats and high movement speed.
  • Almost all combat is automated, but you can actively help out your armies by improving your heroes.
  • All units must move via marches. Marches can be comprised of one to three heroes and unit types.
  • Marches are how you interact with the world, whether via resource node, monsters, or attacking another player.
  • As you play, you’ll unlock more Titan Docks. The more Titan Docks you have, the more marches you can have at once.

Which Race Should You Pick?

With four races at your disposal, which one should you pick?

nexus war aoku
You really expect me to not play as the barbarian lizardmen?

Honestly, it’s a choice of aesthetic unless you factor in the innate bonuses of each race:

  • Theia, basically space elves, have 5% stronger infantry, 4% more healing speed, and 5% increased scout speed.
  • Humans have 5% more artillery attack, 2% more construction speed, and 5% faster marching speed (overworld movement speed) when gathering from resource nodes.
  • The not-Protoss Izan sport 5% more tank attack, 2% more research speed, and 5% faster marching speed when jungling.
  • The brutal Aoku have a 5% tank attack bonus, 4% faster training speed, and 5% faster marching speed when raiding other players.

Based on these choices, I would recommend any race except the Theia for new players, with a bias towards the Izan or the Aoku. You will mostly be relying on tanks for jungling, so their 5% bonus attack is a great boon. The Izan have a nice (but minor) 2% research speed boost while the Aoku have a more universal 4% training speed boost; on the downside, the Aoku’s faster speed when attacking other players won’t be relevant in the early game. Your starter hero will also depend on which race you chose, though they’re all relatively capable.

Do note that you can change your race at any time by paying 1000 premium currency – you can do this by tapping your portrait in the upper left.Once you’re settled in and have a clear strategy in mind, you can switch to whichever race would benefit your current situation the most!

Unit Stats and Tiers

Each unit in Nexus War: Civilization has stats. These stats are:

  • Attack – attack power. A rough estimation of how much damage this unit deals in combat.
  • Defense – defense power. Damage mitigation.
  • Health – how many hits this unit can take. A unit that hits 0 health either dies or is wounded, depending on what type of battle it fell in.
  • Power – how much player power each instance of this unit gives to you. 100 units with 5 power will grant you 500 more player power.
  • Marching Speed – how fast this unit moves on the overworld. A higher number means the unit moves faster.
  • Load Capacity – how many units of resources this unit can carry. 100 units with 10 load capacity means that the army can carry away 1000 resources.
nexus war master combatant
Ready to rumble.

By upgrading your barracks, you can train higher tiers of units. Higher-tier units are superior to their low-tier counterparts in every way.

Unit Upgrades

You may be wondering what’s the point of training units since the next tier will overshadow them in terms of raw strength. The answer to that is unit upgrades.

nexus war destroyer
Forget everything you learned in basic!

Once you’ve unlocked a new tier of unit, you can retrain your lower tier units into that tier. This will cost both resources and time – the further apart the tiers are, the more expensive it will be and the longer it will take. However, it’s still much faster than training a new batch of highest-tier units, so make use of it whenever you can!

To retrain units, tap on that unit type in the relevant barracks, then tap the double arrow icon in the upper right – it’s the one directly across the unit name.

Unit Types and the Unit Triangle

There are three unit types in Nexus War: Civilization:

  • Infantry are sturdy frontliners. They don’t have much in the way of attack power, but their high defense means they’ll likely be the last units standing.
  • Artillery are the polar opposite of infantry – they have virtually no defense, but have a ton of attack power to destroy their foes.
  • Tanks are a medium between the two. Tanks have decent attack and defense for combat, but where they really stand out is their movement speed.

Units in Nexus War: Civilization operate via a unit triangle. Infantry counter artillery, artillery counter tanks, tanks counter infantry. This isn’t a hard and fast rule, but you can research technologies at the research center to push this advantage.

nexus war suppression
It’s super effective-r!

In most empire builders, it’s a good idea to focus on cavalry (tanks) in the early game when you’re just fighting mobs. This is not only due to their well-balanced stats, but also because of their excellent movement speed.

Combat

Most combat in Nexus War: Civilization is automated. You don’t have to worry about a thing as the AI will automatically simulate battles for you when two hostile armies clash.

nexus war fight
Forward!

That’s not to say that you can’t assist in combat, however. The best way to do this is by strengthening your heroes so that they’ll be better leaders and warriors. We’ll talk more about heroes in a little bit.

Troops and Marches

You may have noticed how the game takes you to your Titan Docks every time you want to fight on the world map or gather resources. That’s because units can only be moved as armies, and a moving army is usually referred to as a march.

nexus war march
The alternative is walking.

Marches are how you command your army on the world map. Each march is made of one or more heroes and unit types and can interact with monsters, resource nodes, other players, and so on. To get the most out of your marches, research the “Armies” branch of technology at your research center.

As you play, you’ll gain access to more Titan Docks, meaning you’ll be able to deploy more armies. More marches mean more jungling, more resource gathering, and more raiding – all at the same time!

Heroes of The New World

Your heroes are more than big beatsticks. They serve as your frontline generals and are your most direct way of interacting with the world of Nexus War: Civilization. Thus, you’ll need to learn how to strengthen your heroes.

Quick Tips:

  • The easiest way to strengthen heroes is by leveling up. You can feed them hero exp items or jungle enemies to reliably gain experience.
  • Heroes unlock new skills as they level up. Hero skills can be leveled up but require mementos, which you gain from pulling duplicates of a hero.
  • You get multiple free pulls per day from the Hall of Heroes, so be sure to do so – you might get the mementos you need.
  • Do your daily quests as this gives you rare hero mementos and one Epic Beacon for the gacha.

Leveling Up

The most basic way of strengthening your heroes is leveling them up. Leveling heroes is easy – either feed them hero experience items from the gacha, events, or the cash shop (but why?) or send them to fight monsters. Earn enough experience, and bam, new level.

nexus war hero upgrade
Simple but necessary.

Level ups increase a hero’s combat power. Remember that units move in marches, so a higher hero combat power directly affects the army it’s leading.

Skills

Leveling up doesn’t just give a hero a slight power boost. Get enough levels and you’ll unlock a new hero skill, a powerful ability that they bring to bear in battle.

nexus war hero skill upgrade
Bear not included.

Skills are what distinguish heroes from common fighters and can completely change the way an army operates. Note that a skill usually takes different forms depending on the kind of battle it’s fought in.

Skills also have levels. The higher a skill’s level, the better its numbers and the more effective it is. To level a skill, you’ll need mementos of a hero – meaning you’ll need to pull duplicates of that hero in the gacha. Best of luck!

Promotion

Level ups are nice and all, but promotions provide a much bigger power boost.

nexus war hero rank promotion
You are promoted because I feel like it. I am a capricious commander.

Heroes have several ranks, and as they climb through the ranks, they gain powerful buffs not only for themselves but also for their armies. While level ups are small but constant gains in power and skills are great in combat, promotion power boosts are universally useful and any hero you actively use should be promoted. Note that there are 5 stars per rank, and the hero gains a power boost per star you fill in, not just at the end!

To promote a hero, you’ll need mementos. However, unlike skills, you can substitute generic “rarity” mementos or mementos of mementos of a hero of a certain rarity – the higher the rank, the rarer the mementos you’ll need. You can also reset a hero’s promotions if you decide you want to invest in someone else!

Gacha and Freebies

Because of the importance of pulling in the gacha to get both duplicates and mementos, it’s important to maximize your pulls as early as possible.

nexus war gacha
Be sure to scroll through the banners!

For starters, you get a number of free pulls on each banner per day. The ratio seems to be 1 free pull on limited banners and 5 per day on the standard banner. Remember – upgrading the Hall of Heroes does not improve your gacha pulls!

nexus war dailies
You’ll have to work for it.

Aside from these freebies, make it a point to complete your dailies every day. Filling up your activity bar not only rewards you with a bunch of resources but also an Epic Beacon for use in the gacha and some rare hero mementos to get your promotions rolling!

Banding Together with Other Survivors

Your shelter may be self-sufficient, but unless you band together with other survivor groups, you’ll be easy prey not only for the astra but also for raiders. And unless you’re willing to shell out major cash, you can’t stand alone. Thus, it’s important to find an alliance as soon as possible!

Quick Tips:

  • Alliance members can help each other in any timed project.
  • Alliance members can rally together to take down bigger foes, such as bosses.
  • Alliances have access to the alliance tech tree, which gives minor bonuses to every alliance member.
  • Helping your alliance out gives you contribution points, which can be spent in an alliance shop.
  • Players of empire builders are usually very friendly and welcoming to newcomers. Don’t be afraid to ask your senior alliance mates for advice!

Alliance Help

Any time an alliance member starts a timed project, such as training units, upgrading a building, or researching technology, they can request assistance from their alliance mates.

nexus war alliance help
Slow day today, innit boys?

Your ability to receive assistance depends on the level of your alliance center. The higher its level, the more help you can receive per project.

Rallies

While hunting monsters on the overworld, you may have found tough foes with combat power above and beyond what you can muster. That’s where rallies come in.

nexus war sickle slaver
You’re dreaming if you think you can take this on alone right now.

Rallies are when an alliance’s armies band together to create a unified fighting force. When a rally starts, all alliance members will be notified, and they can choose to send their armies to the rally site. At the end of the rally’s timer, all armies that answered the call will be conglomerated into a single, massive army that uses the sum of the combat power of all its components. By fighting together, you can even take down powerful foes!

Note that for major battles like event boss fights or PVP, alliances in empire builders usually look to a senior officer or a marshal to rally the alliance’s members. However, any member can start a rally and it will appear in all alliance members’ notifications.

Alliance Technology

All alliances have a shared alliance technology tree. This tree works much in the same way as your research, but its effects spread to all members of the alliance. Thus, the bigger an alliance, the more benefits it gets out of the alliance tech tree.

nexus war alliance help
Apes smarter together!

Unlike normal research though, alliance techs take not only significantly more time but also a ton of resources. Any alliance member can contribute resources (either premium currency or basic resources) to any project. However, the costs involved with each research project mean that it’s best to communicate and collaborate with your alliance mates so that everyone is dumping material into the same project.

Alliance Tasks

Being in an alliance gives you an extra set of weekly tasks on top of your regular missions. That means more profit!

Alliance tasks are divided into alliance-wide and personal tasks. Alliance-wide tasks gain progress when any alliance member performs the listed task, while personal tasks must be completed on your own. Don’t sleep on these as they’re an excellent way to boost your credit income.

Alliance Shops

Some say that doing good is its own reward. I mean, that’s fine, but I prefer something more tangible. Luckily, Nexus War: Civilization rewards you for helping out your guild by giving you Personal Credits when you perform services for your guild, particularly by dumping resources in alliance technology.

Maybe I’ll be lucky next time.

These credits can be spent in the alliance shop, a store with some interesting buffs for sale, including an 8-hour shield. Note that the store must be restocked by senior members or the alliance leader using alliance points, so that’s another incentive for you to cooperate.

Learning from Others

Your alliance mates may be sporting 10 million combat power, but that doesn’t mean they’ll ignore you. Most empire builders I’ve played have a very welcoming community, especially towards new players – games like this need a constant influx of newbies to survive, after all. Thus, don’t be afraid to ask your senior alliance members for advice on how to progress further after you’ve learned the basics. A wise man learns from his mistakes, but a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others!

Toward A Brighter Future

While it’s true that we’ve lost so much, looking backward will only serve to impede our path forward. March toward the future bravely and wisely and rebuild civilization through your steady hand. What path we will take, however, depends entirely on you.

From these ashes, we will rise again.

That concludes my beginner’s guide to Nexus War: Civilization, and I hope that you now have a solid understanding of the basics so that you can build your empire of tomorrow on a solid foundation.
