A school headmaster’s work is never done! Make sure you are ready for the job by studying our Magic School Story guide that comes with some useful tips and tricks!
1. Attendance Is A Must
Let us start with the easiest of tasks. If you want to progress far in Magic School Story, you need a lot of resources. An easy way to get extra resources is to simply log in every day in order to get the Daily Bonus. Rewards include premium and regular currency, upgrade materials, and more. Even if you don’t have a lot of time to play, try to log in for a few seconds just to claim this wonderful freebie.
2. Keep On Building
Each structure you build in this game generates money. That includes the dorms, stores, classes, and other facilities. The more you build, the faster your income generation will be. Don’t forget to build decorations as well. Even if these do not earn gold on their own, they increase the appeal of surrounding structures. That will increase the earnings of the structures it affects. Don’t forget to expand your school as well. Not only will this give you more space to build on, you will also be able to unlock new types of structures.
3. Plan Your Layout
There are several types of structures in Magic School Story, but the dorms are what you need the most. Each dormitory will host one student. Students are the ones who spend money in your school, so you need a whole lot of them in order to make profit. You can tap on the School Information building to view how many students can enroll in your school, and how many are currently enrolled. You can keep adding dorms until you reach the student cap.
When laying down your structures, keep in mind that dorms, classes, and facilities need to have access to at least one path. You cannot surround them with any structure on all four sides or students will not be able to reach them. Decorations, on the other hand, do not need student access. That means you can maximize your space by surrounding decorations with structures.
4. Queue Up The Mines
Upgrade materials have different elements. Each class requires a certain combination of these elements in order to upgrade. There are a number of ways for you to gather these materials. The first one is by queuing up the mines. You just need to tap on it when it is idle to queue it up. You will be given the option to ask for help from a friend. Choose the element you want your friend to help with and if he accepts, you will gain more of that element once the timer is up. It takes several hours for the mine to finish producing materials, so make sure you queue it up as often as you can.
5. Go On Adventures
A second way to collect materials in Magic School Story is by sending your professors on adventures. Tap on the adventure board beside the mines. You can have up to three adventures at one time. Adventures may be rated one, two, or three stars. The higher the star rating, the more difficult it will be for the professor to succeed. Pay attention to what the professor is saying. If he isn’t confident, tap on the plus sign beside the student symbol to add students to go with the professor. The more students there are, the higher the chances of success. Keep in mind, however, that each student will add to the price of your adventure. In the early parts of the game, one student for a three-star adventure should be enough.
6. Play The Mini Game For Rewards
When you tap on the arrow button on the lower right corner of the screen, it will expand the menu. There you will find the Gather icon. Tap on it and you will be able to play a match-three minigame. Successfully completing a stage in this minigame will reward you with stars, coins, and upgrade materials. Pay attention to the element indicated beside the stage number as this will be the material you will receive when you clear it.
If you have played match-three games before, the strategies are pretty much the same. The goals are shown on the left side as well as the number of moves you have remaining. Try to use special tiles in order to clear the board more quickly. Prioritize tiles that are part of your goal. If you run out of moves before hitting your targets, you will fail the level. You will still receive a few coins as consolation, though. You have a maximum of five hearts that serves as lives. You lose one heart when you fail but gain one every time you complete a stage for the first time. Hearts also regenerate over time.
7. Use Your Stars
After playing through several stages of the minigame, you should have enough stars to cast a magic spell. Tap on the icon on the top right corner of your screen to bring up the three available spells. The first one gives you a rush of coins. The second boosts your students’ learning for one in-game hour. The third one boosts both at a discounted rate. The best option, of course, is the third one. Since it only costs a few stars more than the either of the other two spells, it wouldn’t take you long to save up for it.
8. Upgrade Your Classes
Now that you have a bunch of upgrade materials, it is time to upgrade your classes. This isn’t urgent during the early parts of your game, but as your students level up, they will need more advanced classes. If you are not able to provide the classes that they need, they will start failing their exams. Make sure you also build another low-level version of the class or new students will not be able to take it. Examination days come every few days, so your students need to be prepared. You will be given a summary of how many students passed the exams. The more students pass, the bigger the rewards you receive afterwards.
9. Check Your Quests
At the top left corner of your screen, you will see a book icon. Tap on it to open up your Quests. These mostly instruct you to build certain structures for the first time. Every time you do, you will be rewarded with a gem. Gems are the premium currency of the game, so it would help you out a lot to check out which Quests would be easy enough to complete. Other Quests include unlocking new students, securing your account, and more. These are things you will most likely do over the course of your game, so it is really just a matter of remembering to claim the rewards.
10. Playing With Combinations
When you tap on a structure then on the Info button, you can check out basic data about that structure. You will also see a Combo List button. Tap on it to bring up the list of structure combinations that will give you a bonus. Keep in mind that some of the combinations require as much as four structures placed side by side. Not all structures have to be part of a combo. Try to weigh the benefits if it is worth sacrificing so much space just to make one combination work.
11. Working With Prodigies
Prodigies are special students that have a star on their head. They have more allowance than the average student, so they spend more money. On top of that, when they graduate, they become professors. Prodigy professors can be assigned to classes. Doing so will give multiple boosts to those classes. The more Prodigies you have, the more special professors you will acquire in the long run. In order to unlock a new Prodigy, you must first unlock his student type. Each student type has one Prodigy. The price of new student types increases exponentially, so try to save up as much coin as you can. You can check out the list of Prodigy professors in the School Information building.
12. Add A Lot Of Friends
The game has a Social aspect that allows you to follow other players. You can visit these players and help out in their schools. When you add a lot of friends, they will most likely add you back. You will then have a lot of visitors to help out the different structures in your own school. You also have several friends to choose from when looking for help in the mines.
Unlike most other games with the same Social feature, the game does not auto suggest friends for you to add. Don’t worry because there is still a way for you to find more players to follow. Tap on the arrow icon on the bottom right corner of the screen to expand the menu. Look for the Rank icon. Tapping on it will open up a list of the top players in the game. Just scroll through the different names and pick one that you would like to visit. Once you are in that player’s school, you can tap on the plus sign above his name on the top left of the screen to follow him. You now be able to help out in his school and ask for help from him in the mines.
13. Take Photos Of Your School
Inside the expanded menu is a camera icon that allows you to take screenshots of your school. This is more than just a vanity option for players. Once in a while, you will see an exclamation mark on the camera icon. When you see it, that means you will receive a bonus when you take a photo and share it. You can earn a few thousand coins every time you share, so make sure you keep an eye out for that exclamation mark. It appears several times throughout the day which means you will have multiple chances to earn a lot of coins. You don’t even have to actually share the photo. Just choose a sharing option then hit the back button. You will still receive the promised reward.
14. Play Actively To Earn More Coins
When you are offline, you will still earn coins from your school. The amount you earn depends on the number of structures and students you have. Of course, that does not mean you should just leave your school alone and come back every few hours to claim your offline earnings. While you are online, coin icons will appear above your structures. Tapping on them actively will allow you to earn money a lot quicker compared to earning offline.
On top of that, you will also spot random students who have exclamation marks on their heads. Tap on those students to find out what they need. Some of them will be encouraged to go back to studying. Others will tell you what you need to build. Others still will ask you where certain structures are, and if you help them, you will receive a coin bonus. Actively play the game as often as you can in order to earn more money for building and upgrades!
15. Secure Your Account
There are two ways to secure your account. You can use your Facebook login or your email address. Regardless of which one you choose, make sure you do this as soon as possible. Securing your account is the only way for you to recover your progress if in case your device gets reset or if you want to play in a different device. As an added bonus, you also get three gems as a reward since securing your account is one of your quests.
It is time for you to build the best wizarding school in all the land! Just stick to our Magic School Story strategy guide above and you will be climbing to the top of the rankings in no time!
