Hero Academy 2 Beginner’s Guide: 7 Tips, Cheats & Strategies to Outsmart Your Opponents

It has been years, but the long wait is finally over! Hero Academy 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to Robot Entertainment’s original real-time strategy battle game for Android and iOS devices. To put it simply, Hero Academy 2 is more than just a collectible card game. It also has board game mechanics that makes it the ultimate combination of tactics and strategy. Assemble your team of heroes then prepare to battle it out in a movement-based combat system. There are hundreds of cards available for you to collect, including warriors, wizards, spells, and shields from different factions. Once you are confident in your team, and your skills, you can enter the arena to challenge some of the best players from all over the globe. The mechanics are easy to learn, but the strategies are complex. Make sure you prepare well by reading our Hero Academy 2 strategy guide, and learn how to win every battle!

1. Build A Synergized Deck

There are so many cards to choose from, that it can be difficult to decide which ones to include on your deck. Keep in mind, however, that it is not about stuffing your deck with all the strongest cards you can find. In fact, synergy is more important than power in this game. Find cards with good synergy and build your deck around it.

If you still can’t decide, you can try out the Elemental cards. They have great synergy, but they are easy to acquire. The plays are also pretty easy to understand, so you will be able to master different strategies if you stick with a decent Elemental deck. When you become more comfortable with using various cards, you can start mixing up your deck to find better combinations.

2. Aim For The Crystal

The enemy’s crystal is your primary target. If you are able to destroy it, you will win the match. While most games in the genre will have you focusing on taking out the heroes first before attacking the crystal, the opposite is true for this game. Just keep aiming for the crystal and let the enemy do what he wants.
The reason behind this is that most troops will still deal damage even if they die in that turn. That means if you attack the crystal during your turn, but the enemy manages to kill your hero during their turn, the game will still consider the damage you dealt on the crystal. That means you will end up damaging both the crystal and the enemy hero even if your hero dies.

3. Take Advantage Of Your Hero’s Powers

Heroes have powers that can be used during battle by consuming mana. It is different for each hero, but they always give you an advantage in battle. Keep in mind, however, that these powers are limited, so you need to carefully consider when to use them. They might not seem like much at first, but if you can find the perfect opportunity for using them, you can easily win any match.

4. Hold On To Your Cards

When you are starting out, it is better if you kept your cards first. You will have the ability to disenchant cards in order to get Inks, but this isn’t really something you need to be concerned with early in the game. Once you have a well-established deck, and you are sure which cards you won’t really need, you can start disenchanting. Keep in mind, however, that the game is still new, so the chances of the developers nerfing or buffing any card is still pretty high. The last thing you want is to disenchant a seemingly useless card only to have it buffed by a lot in the next patch.

5. Read Up On The Cards

As we mentioned above, in Hero Academy 2 there are hundreds of cards to choose from. The most important thing when faced with this many choices is to understand what each card has to offer. Playing each card at the right time can ultimately decide whether you win or lose in a game. We have listed the different card types below to help you get a better grasp on how to use each one.

Heroes

These are the units that will be fighting on the battlefield. You can move them, make them attack, and have them destroy crystals. There are two main types of heroes. The first one is the Ranged type. It can attack from a distance but are useless in melee combat. They cannot attack a unit that is right next to them, and cannot launch a counter attack if hit by a melee weapon. The second type is the Melee hero. As the name suggests, they use melee weapons. You can equip them with smash weapons to have them deal more damage to immovable objects. They can counter attack when hit by a fellow melee unit, but are helpless against ranged attacks.

Weapons

These cards can be “equipped” by your units in order to boost their abilities. You can only equip a weapon card that the unit is already using. For example, you can only equip hammer cards to a unit that uses a hammer. Don’t forget to read the rule texts on each card to find out if you can gain any additional bonuses from it.

Spells

These are special cards that allow you to cast a spell by consuming mana. Different spells are useful if you know how and when to use them. Take time to read the effects of each spell card in order to figure out when to use them. A long press on any spell card will show you its description.

6. Collect Different Currencies

Hero Academy 2 has several types of currencies available. These are spent in different ways, so you need to understand what each type is for. Some currencies are more important than others, but they are all useful. We have listed them all below to help you understand what they are all for.

Gold

This is the basic currency of the game that allows you to buy Basic Card Packs. Basic packs give you three new cards, so buying them is a good way to build up your deck. You can easily earn this currency since it is given out as a reward for practically everything, including winning fights and finishing challenges.

Gems

These are the premium currency of the game. You can get them by paying real money, but there are also free options. These can also be acquired by completing challenges, winning duels, and participating in events. You can spend them on Premium Card Packs, unlock new campaigns in solo mode, and you can even trade them for gold.

Shards

When you win a duel, you will receive these shards. The only purpose for this currency is to open the special chest in the home menu. Just keep picking up shards and you will eventually have enough to open a special chest. Chests contain a lot of loot, so it is always a good idea to open them.

Inks

These are needed for crafting new cards. As we mentioned above, it might not be a great idea to disenchant all your extra cards as they might still be useful in the future. Disenchant cards at your own risk.

7. Play The Different Game Modes

There are different game modes available for you to play in Hero Academy 2. While you might have a favorite, it is a good idea to play all the different modes. Each game mode has its own set of rewards just waiting for you to claim them. We have listed the different game modes below in order to give you a better idea on how to play each one.

Solo Mode

The single player mode has three more categories under it. The first one is the Campaign mode where you can take on characters of the game in a series of battles. These mostly work as introductions to the different cards that are available. It allows you to practice playing against different decks while winning rewards at the same time. The second type of single player mode is the Challenges. This mode contains various puzzles that you will need to complete. Characters, items, and spells are pre-stocked for you, so you only need to focus on solving the puzzle. The last game mode is the Practice, which allows you to play against a computer controlled character in order to test new skills and decks.

Duel Mode

This mode lets you enter the player versus player arena. When fighting in duel mode, you will have a standard deck of 30 cards. You will have a set number of crystals, and the goal is to take out all your opponent’s crystals. It only has 12 turns before it turns into a sudden death battle where you can play stronger cards thanks to the higher mana regeneration.

Quests

All players know the importance of quests. While quests do not really count as a game mode, it is important for you to keep completing them in exchange for various rewards. Keep an eye on the different quests available and aim to complete as many as you can.
