Grand Cross: Age of Titans Tier List: A Complete Ranking of All Heroes in the Game

Welcome back, aspiring conquerors, to Grand Cross: Age of Titans! In this tier list, we’ll be breaking down heroes based on their performance in their advertised roles. As I said in my beginner’s guide (or you may have it experienced yourself), fully raising heroes gets expensive, so it’s best to sort through the cast as early as possible to see who you want to raise up and who you’re willing to leave behind.

A Foreword

A short foreword before we begin, so you’ll know what to expect.

grand cross age of titans tier list

Characters will be sorted into tiers based on their secondary talent. I believe this is more effective than sorting characters based on the unit type they’re specialized in as a hero’s second talent tree helps define their role. These secondary talents are also reflected in a hero’s skills, which are the main consideration in picking a hero anyway.

The roles in Grand Cross: Age of Titans are as follows:

  • Attack heroes provide all-around attack power with no particular specialization.
  • Defend heroes provide flexible defense by offering increased survivability.
  • Gather heroes excel at gathering resources in overworld nodes.
  • Hunt heroes excel at killing overworld monsters.
  • Maneuver heroes have many bonuses to march speed, making them supremely versatile.
  • Siege heroes are adept at PvP battles – attacking other people’s castles, in other words.
  • Station heroes are good at holding the line when stationed in your castle or any other fortification.
  • Support heroes aren’t powerful on their own but increase the strength of other armies.

Apart from this, each hero also has a preferred unit type. While this won’t factor into a hero’s placing on the tier list (that wouldn’t be fair as each unit type has its uses) I will mention what unit type each hero excels in, in case you prefer a specific unit type. Note that a troop type of “combine” means that a hero doesn’t excel in any particular troop type; they may be equally good (or bad) no matter what troops their army is made of.

Heroes will receive letter grades to denote how good they are in their role. In descending order, these are S, A, B, C, and D.

  • S-Tier characters are superb. These heroes are the cream of the crop, and there’s no reason to not use them.
  • A-Tier charactersare above average. They’re reliable and dependable, despite not being quite as good as S-Tier characters. These are the “good” characters you slot in without hesitation.
  • B-Tier characters are okay. B-Tiers can get the job done, but you’ll quickly replace them if you can. Still, you could do worse…
  • C-Tier characters are eh. Use as a last resort or if you literally have nobody better, at which point, shun these characters.
  • D-Tier characters are bleh. These are the requisite bad characters in gacha games that exist to make everyone look better (I know what I said). Don’t use unless you’re up for a challenge.

Another thing you should note that, as with most gacha games, rarer characters tend to be better than more common ones in terms raw stats. While I don’t have the resources to check if this is the case in Grand Cross: Age of Titans (I’m not made of money, after all), it’s something to keep in mind.

grand cross age of titans gameplay

This tier list assumes that you’ve come far enough in the game that things like skills, unit types, mana, and other concepts are things you’re familiar with, which are introduced in roughly the end of the beginning and the start of the midgame. I won’t expound on these concepts here; we’re here to talk about heroes, not game mechanics.

Finally, this tier list is subjective. There are no definitive tier lists, and each of them – this included – were made with the author’s experience, input, opinions, and yes, biases. Take this one (heck, take all of them) with a grain of salt and compare them against player input and your own knowledge to sniff out who’s best for your team.

And now, without further ado, let’s delve into our Grand Cross: Age of Titans tier list!

Attack Tier List

SBeli-mawr, Arthur, Elisha
AAgnes, Freyja
BIvan, Jeannette
CCaenis
DBella, Kamaitachi

S-Tier

Beli-mawr

beli-mawr grand cross age of titans
Don’t let the look fool you – he’s a good guy through and through.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Troop Type: Combine

Features:

  • Increases skill damage of units that have skills.
  • Powerful comeback mechanic.
  • Passive troop size increase.
  • Great nuke with massive DEF penalty.

Beli-mawr is the golden standard by which all other general-type heroes should be judged. This general has it all: a powerful nuke with a hefty debuff to help his troops, a last-ditch comeback mechanic when his unit is reduced to 20% of its original size, a passive that increases troop size (yes, you heard that right), and a skill damage increase to troops under his command, allowing him to push for victory sooner. A good hero shines in battle; a great hero ensures his troops are always at their best, and that’s what Beli-mawr does.

Arthur

arthur grand cross age of titans
*coconut sounds intensify*

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Troop Type: Infantry

Features:

  • Excellent AOE damage.
  • Grants increased survivability for his infantry.

Where Beli-mawr is an excellent example of a commander in that his kit supports his men and not the other way around, Arthur is the opposite – his men play second fiddle to his role of hero. While this may seem selfish, Arthur’s damage output is fantastic thanks to his AOE skill that becomes even crazier when you unlock his Nine Worthies passive skill that gives Lion’s Roar a 50% chance to proc a second attack that hits all enemies. If you get Arthur, try to pump him up to that level as quickly as possible, as the results are well worth it.

Elisha

elisha grand cross age of titans
Icy them coming.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Troop Type: Archers

Features:

  • Powerful nuke that slows enemies.
  • When fully upgraded, passive inflicts damage on slowed enemies every 5 seconds.
  • Improves normal attack for archers.
  • Mana regen.

Elisha is yet another S-Tier legendary hero who proves themselves via outstanding performance. Elisha has a kit perfect for herself and the archers she fields: a slowing nuke, enhanced normal attacks for her troops, and (most importantly) a passive that procs extra damage on any slowed enemies. The last one will take a while to get going as it’s her final skill, but once you do, Elisha’s archer companies will become the bane of your enemies.

A-Tier

Agnes

agnes grand cross age of titans
Full disclosure: white or pale-haired anime women get a bias bonus from me.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Troop Type: Cavalry

Features:

  • DoT-type active skill.
  • Grants her cavalry a very respectable attack boost against any enemy that’s currently under a DoT effect.
  • Needs other DoT sources to be more consistent.
  • Mana regen.

Normally, I’m not a fan of DoTs unless the source is really, really good (see Kafka teams from Honkai: Star Rail). However, when these DoTs facilitate something else, such as Agnes’s 30% bonus damage from cavalry against enemies affected by DoTs, I’m all for it. While Agnes’ skill does inflict a debuff, you’ll also want secondary heroes who can inflict DoTs to keep up the big attack bonus – which is the whole point of using Agnes anyway.

Freyja

freyja grand cross age of titans
The combat engineers are probably her roadies.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Troop Type: Combat Engineers

Features:

  • Lowers HP (or is it damage?)
  • Lots of survivability buffs, greatly amplifies catapults.
  • Passive chance to heal.

Despite ostensibly being an attack-type commander, Freyja is a little…weird. That’s not to say she’s bad; 20% catapult attack is nothing to sneeze at, and Freyja’s nuke just straight-up hurts AND lowers hp (again, I’m not sure if this is maximum HP reduction or continuous damage equal to HP). She’s also got a lot of survivability tricks up her sleeve to help your catapults survive, such as less damage in the opening 30% of her unit’s health and extra defense and HP for all combat engineer units, not just catapults.

B-Tier

Ivan

ivan grand cross age of titans
Whats defense lol

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Troop Type: Combine

Features:

  • Raises ATK. Like, really raises ATK.
  • Did I mention he raises ATK?
  • Good at taking down walls.

Ivan is a bit of a one-trick pony. I’d argue that’s not a bad thing as Ivan is good at the sole thing he can do, which is attacking. He has access to a lot of ATK-raising skills and talents, and thanks to his preference for a combined arms approach, he can be surprisingly versatile. Where he truly excels, however, is taking down castle walls, so try to spearhead attacks with him.

Jeanette

jeanette grand cross age of titans
Allow me to minorly inconvenience you until you die.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Troop Type: Combine

Features:

  • Drains enemies’ mana.
  • Restores her own mana.

Jeannette is more of a niche character. If you’re fighting units whose skills you absolutely prevent, Jeannette’s Cross Slash can buy you some valuable time. If, however, you’re looking for a generic ATK/HP/troop size general to lead your armies, you could do better.

C-Tier

Caenis

caenis grand cross age of titans
“It’s not my fault I’m the biggest and the strongest. I don’t even exercise!”

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Troop Type:
Infantry

Features:

  • Increases skill damage of other units that have skills.
  • Slew of infantry buffs.

This towering Amazon is a decent infantry commander on her own, with a decent nuke to help her in combat as well as a slew of passive buffs to infantry under her command. While Caenis is decent on the attack, don’t let that fool you; I’d argue that Caenis is better classified as a support as her skills give her infantry units various types of buffs, and Caenis’ main draw is that she improves skill damage for units under her command, which makes her a decent low-rarity (relatively) commander for later on in the game.

However, this versatility is also Caenis’ downfall. While she does have an alright array of buffs, her lack of focus in any particular aspect (most glaringly, offense) means that she’ll be overshadowed by more specialized commanders – of which there are a lot.

D-Tier

Bella

bella grand cross age of titans
What a waste of good character art.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Troop Type: Cavalry

Features:

  • Minor stat buffs further hampered by conditional triggers.
  • The rest of her kit is generic; other characters can do her job but better.

Bella is just…hm. I really dig her character design, which is reminiscent of Fire Emblem’s Camus/Sirius. Unfortunately, Bella’s performance is just lackluster all around. With minor buffs to cavalry, as well as better but statistically tiny buffs held back by conditional triggers (instead of just, you know, applying all the time), it’s hard to make a case for Bella.

Kamaitachi

kamaitachi grand cross age of titans
Sickle weasel.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Troop Type:
Archers

Features:

  • “Win more” toolkit that barely helps you achieve victory in the first place.

Kamaitachi is…weird. Yes, he’s an archer general, but the buffs he offers are just strange. These buffs are increased melee counterattack damage (which shouldn’t be happening anyway and if it is, it’s probably cavalry bearing down on your archers) and more archer damage against infantry (which they’re already weak to). He could have just gone for more archer DEF/ATK and scored a bit higher, but nooo, he had to go all fancy-pants with his toolkit. Let this be a lesson: simpler is often better.

Defend Tier List

SIris
AIsaac
BRoxana
DEren

S-Tier

Iris

iris grand cross age of titans
Another white-haired anime woman?! Sign me on.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Troop Type:
Infantry

Features:

  • Fantastic at stonewalling the enemy.
  • Lots of DEF, heals, and healing efficiency buffs.

When it comes to ensuring that your guys are the last ones standing, it’s hard to match Iris. She may have waifish looks, but don’t let her appearance fool you – this lady is more than capable of holding the line thanks to her massive array of defensive options. If increased DEF and reduced damage taken isn’t good enough for you, Iris’ skill also hits hard and heals her own units. Oh, and if fully built, she improves incoming healing for her units, making it that much more difficult to put her down.

A-Tier

Isaac

isaac grand cross age of titans
Isaac and his mother lived alone in a small house on a hill…

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Troop Type:
Cavalry

Features:

  • Defensive cavalry? What a day.
  • Both more resistant against and stronger with pincer attacks.
  • Decent chance to block 70% basic attack damage.

The most unbelievable thing about Isaac isn’t his monstrous defensive cavalry that can both last longer and counter harder. No, the hardest thing to believe is that this grizzled veteran is only forty-five years old. I guess war takes a toll on you, huh?

As a literal knight-captain, Isaac excels at taking to the field with superior defensive cavalry. Isaac’s horsemen are tough thanks to their increased DEF and can quickly fight back thanks to increased counterattack damage. Pincer attacks are also another of Isaac’s fortes, with a skill that both increases the damage his own pincer attacks do and reduces the damage he takes from enemy pincer attacks – note that this does give Isaac some offensive potential.

Finally, when fully upgraded, Isaac gains a 25% chance to block 70% of normal attack damage. 25% isn’t high, but it’s decent, and this skill will proc quite a bit more than expected, giving Isaac better lasting power against normal attack compositions.

B-Tier

Roxana

roxana grand cross age of titans
PLEASE get something to eat.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Troop Type:
Infantry

Features:

  • Decent at holding the line in the early game due to heals and DEF buffs.
  • Improves resistance to normal attacks at 50% troop size or lower.

Roxana shows up a lot during the tutorial missions as the requisite anime catgirl. Personally, I think she should get something to eat – a stiff breeze looks like it would send her flying.

I digress. Roxana isn’t bad for a starter character. While her buffs aren’t amazing, she does do a passable job of holding the line thanks to both a DEF buff and a normal attack resistance buff when her unit size is at 50% or lower. She also has access to a heal and damage reduction via her active skill, which makes her a good side pick, especially in the early game when you don’t have ready healer access.

D-Tier

Eren

eren grand cross age of titans
Yes, black tea is unbelievably nasty to me. I’m more of a coffee man.

Rarity: Rare
Preferred Troop Type:
Infantry

Features:

  • Active is a tiny, insignificant DEF buff.
  • Has barriers, which is good; said barriers are chance based, which is terrible.
  • No. Just no.

You read that right – Eren is terrible through and through. Her active gives a piddling amount of DEF that lasts for a tiny fraction of time, and while she does create shields, they’re chance based.

Hard pass.

Gather Tier List

AAdrien, Elian, Kaya, Natalie
BSophia, Larie, Lulu

A-Tier

Adrien

adrien grand cross age of titans
Age is weird in this world.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Good generalist gatherer with bonus carrying capacity.
  • Has bonuses to fighting on resource nodes which I’d argue are superfluous.

Just like Isaac, the most unbelievable thing about Adrien is that she’s forty-seven years old. I guess you just kind of wilt after 30 years old, huh.

To the point. Adrien is a good all-around gatherer with an emphasis on food gathering, and her increased troop carrying capacity helps her make bigger and more meaningful deposits. The problem with Adrien is that she has passives for fighting on resource nodes; in my experience, fights over common resources are incredibly rare and most people would rather book it than fight over a resource node.

Elian

elian grand cross age of titans
…Linus?

Rarity: Rare
Preferred Unit Type: Archers

Features:

  • Has bonuses to food and wood gathering as well as march speed.

There’s not much to say about Elian – he’s good at gathering food and wood (more of the latter than the former) and has a handy march speed increase to help ferry the goods faster. A perfectly serviceable no-nonsense gather-type hero, in my opinion.

Kaya

kaya grand cross age of titans
Even cats aren’t exempt from labor.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Has bonuses to food and stone gathering, speed, and carrying capacity(?).

At first glance, it may look like Kaya should immediately be S-Tier as she has everything that makes a good gatherer – a bonus to certain resources, march speed, and carrying capacity. So what gives? Her carrying capacity bonus, that’s what. It’s her final skill, meaning that you have to unlock and level all of her other skills to unlock it, rather than it being something she inherently has. While gatherers are important, I don’t think that investing so much just to get a carrying capacity bonus is worth the time and effort.

Natalie

natalie grand cross age of titans
Gold is good.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Faster wood and gold gathering.

I was expecting a dwarf to be the premiere gold gatherer, but instead it’s a vampire. There goes my expectations.

Natalie is unique among gatherers in that she’s the best gold gatherer there is, with a base 6% speed increase to gold mining.  Note that she’s also better at chopping wood, but gold mines are where you should be sending Natalie and her unit. She also has a carrying capacity buff but no march speed buff, meaning that Natalie is better when it comes to mining in friendly territory.

B-Tier

Sophia

sophia grand cross age of titans
How many resources is she carrying herself, I wonder?

Rarity: Uncommon
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Generalist gatherer.

Sophia is a little lower on the gatherer tier list due not to her generalist gathering skill (which can be useful if you don’t have a specialist) but because of her other weaker passives. Her march speed increase isn’t as potent as say, Elian’s, and when we’re talking about resources, the sooner you can weave in and out of territory – especially hostile territory – the better. Do note, however, that Sophia does have a troop size bonus skill that makes her a bit better at farming in friendly territory.

Larie

larie grand cross age of titans
Nice to see you get out of your mansion for once.

Rarity: Uncommon
Preferred Unit Type: Combat Engineer

Features:

  • Generalist gatherer.

Larie is another generalist gatherer in the same vein as Sophia. While Sophia has no particular leanings, Larie does gather food a bit better, so keep that in mind if you have to pick one or the other. Unlike Sophia, Larie doesn’t have any move speed increase whatsoever, limiting her use to friendly resource nodes. It’s not a make-or-break thing though, just a nitpick of mine.

Lulu

lulu grand cross age of titans
Nice to see you get out of your mansion for once.

Rarity: Uncommon
Preferred Unit Type: Combat Engineer

Features:

  • Generalist gatherer.

I could copy-paste Larie here and no one would know the difference. Probably. Oh alright, Lulu has a 4% gathering speed bonus for everything making her one of the better generalist gatherers. Note that she also has a carrying capacity bonus and no march speed buff – once again making her better suited for friendly resource node excursions.

Hunt Tier List

SSekhmet, Actaus
AClaudia, Angus, Valkyrie, Karma
BMooa, Helena, Lanec

S-Tier

Sekhmet

sekhmet grand cross age of titans
The sand’s thunder.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Cavalry

Features:

  • Very powerful hunter hero that draws on all the strengths of her class.
  • Great bonus damage against both monsters and fortresses.
  • Minor experience point boost for cohort heroes.
  • Heals units after a fight.

Sekhmet takes the best traits of all the hunters on this list and makes them better. She’s got incredible offensive prowess against both overworld monsters and fortresses, has a minor experience point boost for other heroes in her unit (Actaus is still better at that though) and heals all her units for a small burst of health after a fight. Simple, but effective.

Actaus

actaus grand cross age of titans
Don’t have a cow, man.

Rarity: Uncommon
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Ruthless hunter that massively amplifies experience gains for his unit.
  • Gains passive healing for his unit when fully built, allowing faster hunts.

It’s rare for non-legendaries to make the S-Tier, but Actaus is one happy exception. While yes, his combat prowess is excellent but will be overshadowed by legendaries, it’s his raw utility that earns him a spot in S-Tier. See, Actaus knows that most players will want to switch to legendaries, so what does he do? He massively boosts the experience gain of heroes in his unit.

At base level, that’s a generous 50%; at max level, it’s 90% bonus experience points. As if that wasn’t enough to prove himself useful, Actaus also deals bonus damage to monsters and has a march speed increase to ensure that he and his cohort are continuously rolling in kills. All things considered, Actaus is an excellent supportive hunter.

A-Tier

Claudia

claudia grand cross age of titans
“I shall return.”

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Infantry

Features:

  • Good starter hunter with a great nuke.
  • Specializes in infantry titans.
  • Technically free.

Claudia is a legendary hunter that you can earn just by playing the game. In the early game, she’ll serve you well as a generic hunter as her troop buffs and great nuke allow her to dispatch monsters with ease. Much later on though, you can also use her to lead infantry titans as she has a passive dedicated to these behemoths. I’d advise waiting a bit on building Claudia too much as you still need to assemble and unlock your titan, as well as find one that will help your current situation.

Angus

angus grand cross age of titans
Burger?

Rarity: Rare
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Simple and effective kit for killing monsters.

Angus is a very vanilla hunter. That’s not to say he’s bad – more like he just focuses on his role, no more, and no less. The foundations of Angus’ unit are his powerful Beast of the Snow Mountain passive that greatly increases damage done to monsters and his Cold Reassurance that boosts march speed, allowing you to quickly dart from monster to monster.

Valkyrie

valkyrie grand cross age of titans
No opera allowed.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Cavalry

Features:

  • Helps strengthen your other heroes especially in the early game.
  • You get her for free.

Valkyrie is a potent mob killer and the first hero you’ll get when playing Grand Cross: Age of Titans. She’s also going to be one of your mainstays thanks to her incredible Angel of Death passive skill that not only increases the damage that her unit does to monsters but also increases experience gained for any heroes in her unit. That’s right, Valkyrie can babysit your new legendaries until they’re ready to fight by themselves. Sure, she’s not as potent as Actaus, but free is free!

Karma

karma grand cross age of titans
And here’s the kitsune.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Archer

Features:

  • Has minor bonuses against infantry.
  • Excels at pincer attacks.

Karma has the usual monster-hunting toolkit of the hunter class, but what makes her really stand out is the massive damage bonus (up to 30%) her unit gets when it performs a pincer attack. 30% more damage is big, and can potentially be used to win fights you’d otherwise lose. Exercise good judgment when using Karma, though, and be careful not to bite off more than you can chew!

B-Tier

Mooa

mooa grand cross age of titans
Get in, get the job done, get out.

Rarity: Uncommon
Preferred Unit Type: Archer

Features:

  • Surprisingly effective low-rarity hunter that’s great in the early game.

Mooa has a surprisingly effective kit despite her low rarity. Everything a hunter would want – damage, ATK, march speed – she has, and in the early game, where quantity of monster kills is often more desirable than quality, Mooa proves shockingly effective. Of course, she’ll drop off in use as you get better hunters, but it’s a pleasant surprise to be able to efficiently fight and kill mobs with just an uncommon character.

Helena

helena grand cross age of titans
Even giants fall.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Archer

Features:

  • Specialized against monster fortresses.

While other hunters concern themselves with eradicating beasts in the overworld, Helena goes straight for the big game. Thanks to her HP buff for archers as well as bonus damage against monsters, she’ll do well in any monster brawl. However, her ability to deal more damage to fortresses should be her main draw, and the increased power of her archers can help tilt fortress battles in your favor.

Lanec

lanec grand cross age of titans
Spiderlady.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Infantry

Features:

  • Specialized against monster fortresses.

Basically, she’s Helena but with a focus on infantry. I would actually suggest using Lanec over Helena as Lanec’s infantry are inherently sturdier and the extra DEF and counterattack damage are things I prefer over more HP. It’s a really a matter of which unit type you like better as their bonus damage against monsters and fortresses is identical.

Maneuver Tier List

ANuma
BFynn, Kayla, Galahad

A-Tier

Numa

numa grand cross age of titans
Nu ma iei, nu ma nu ma nu ma iei.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Cavalry

Features:

  • Excels at leading rallied cavalry armies.

Numa should be your go-to hero when you need to amass a massive rallied army to take out a big target. Fortunately, it’s not just rallied units that Numa has a bonus with as her Requiem skill both increases cavalry ATK and troop size, while Wailing Sorrow increases her rallied troop size (though naturally, you’ll want to rally cavalry troops to maximize Numa’s efficiency).

Unfortunately, this is also her downside – you’ll need to be part of an active alliance to maximize her rally size bonus. Still, she’ll serve you well as a solo player as her cavalry ATK and troop size buff are condensed into a single skill.

B-Tier

Fynn

fynn grand cross age of titans
Elven archer. What’s new?

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Archers

Features:

  • Decent bonuses to march speed.
  • Can disrupt enemy healing and march speed.

Frankly, there’s not much to say about Fynn. He’s the requisite elven archer representative, he does a perfectly decent job of fielding high-mobility archers, and he can disrupt the enemy with heal and march speed penalties. Not too great, but not shabby either.

Kayla

kayla grand cross age of titans
To the frontlines!

Rarity: Rare
Preferred Unit Type: Cavalry

Features:

  • Increases both ATK and march speed for cavalry.

Despite her low rarity, Kayla is an all-around decent hero for heading quick cavalry charges. While her low rarity means that she’ll be overshadowed by rarer maneuver heroes when you get them, she’s still perfectly serviceable in her own right.

Galahad

galahad grand cross age of titans
I can take them! There’s only a hundred and fifty of them!!

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Cavalry

Features:

  • Bonuses for march speed and harassment on resource nodes.

Galahad does admittedly have some nice bonuses, but unfortunately, she’s uniquely geared for harassment on resource nodes – which, if you’ve noticed, isn’t exactly a thing in the early game where nodes are plentiful and there’s no need to bully other players. Where Galahad would shine is as you get closer to the center of the map, at which point you’ll very likely have better heroes to lead your glorious armies.

Siege Tier List

SBeom
BHie

S-Tier

Beom

beom grand cross age of titans
The eye of the tiger.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Cavalry

Features:

  • Excels at massive cavalry charges.

There’s no two ways about it: Beom is built for leading rallied charges against enemy fortifications. While his skills give his cavalry greater offensive prowess (ATK and skill damage, to be exact), his siege talent tree ensures that he’ll have greater success in fighting and conquering enemy cities. Simple, but effective.

B-Tier

Hie

hie grand cross age of titans
She’ll fight in the shade.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Archer

Features:

  • Counter-archer hero.

Hie is a decent counter-archer hero who uses her own archers to attack fortifications. Thanks to her increased archer ATK, decreased normal attack damage taken from archers, and a chance to deal more damage against stationed troops, Hie can do a decent job against foes attempting to shore up with bowmen. Just be sure to support her – Hie’s unit is specialized against archers and nothing else!

Station Tier List

SErdel
ADestina
BKalope, Ramesses
DHaemosu

S-Tier

Erdel

erdel grand cross age of titans
Defensive vampires? MADNESS!

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Tons of buffs and heals that make taking her position tedious and not worth doing.

Erdel is the premiere fortification holder in Grand Cross: Age of Titans. Thanks to her bevy of defensive tools – a skill that raises DEF and counter damage AND heals, passives that buff troop HP, ATK, and DEF, and major damage reduction while above 90% unit size, a well-fortified Erdel serves as a powerful deterrent to foes, forcing them to slog through her defenses while your other armies can ride to reinforce the position or do something elsewhere.

A-Tier

Destina

destina grand cross age of titans
Yes, she can actually do something.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Decent defensive kit.

You would think that, as royalty, Princess Destina wouldn’t be capable of doing much. Well, she is, even if that something involves sitting down. Destina’s kit is simple yet potent for a station-type hero with both a minor ATK and DEF buff. What really seals the deal, however, is her increased healing and counterattack damage – though this requires you to really build Destina up.

B-Tier

Kalope

kalope grand cross age of titans
Pandora?!

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Infantry

Features:

  • Good defensive buffs.
  • Can create minor barriers.

There’s not much to say about Kalope other than I dig her design. She has decent DEF and HP buffs for her infantry and can use her skill to create minor shields. She’s not fantastic, but she’ll do.

Ramesses

ramesses grand cross age of titans
Not voiced by Ralph Fiennes.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Infantry

Features:

  • Good buffs separated into different skills instead of being condensed.
  • Combat Engineer Titan bonus only comes into play when fully upgraded.

Ramesses has good stuff going – ATK, DEF, and HP buffs. The trouble with his kit is that these are too clearly defined, with each skill doing exactly one thing rather than going for a condensed approach. In practical terms, this means that it’s much harder to get bigger buffs with Ramesses as you need to level multiple skills (compare to skills that raise both ATK and DEF).

Ramesses does admittedly get a very powerful skill damage and ATK boost for Combat Engineer titans, though this requires him to be fully built up. Is it worth sinking all your resources for some minor returns across three skills? Your call, but I say no.

D-Tier

Haemosu

haemosu grand cross age of titans
Your orders were to hold the line.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Archers

Features:

  • Weird offense-focused kit as a defensive hero.

With offensive giants like Beli-mawr, Arthur, and Elisha becoming more common as you push into more dangerous ground, what hope does a minor offensive defense, like what Haemosu offers, have? None, that’s what. Instead of doubling down on her defenses and healing her troops like Destina or just flat-out dissuading enemies from attacking, like Erdel, Haemosu does a bad job of defending areas she’s stationed in; if anything, her lackluster kit might even serve as a signal for foes to attack!

S-Tier

Mellibee

mellibee grand cross age of titans
The queen bee, as it were.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Archers

Features:

  • Packs powerful supportive abilities but is also plenty strong on her own.

When you say someone plays “support”, that usually means that they themselves will not be doing much else – a healing support, for example, tends to stand by attentively to top up anyone in critical condition, while buff/debuff supports will just rotate as necessary. And then comes a weird support that’s surprisingly good at everything – in Grand Cross: Age of Titans, that’s Mellibee.

Mellibee is weird in a good way. As a support unit, she gives a potent normal attack damage buff to multiple allies, which is perfect for an offensive operation. However, this queen bee is more than capable of standing on her own thanks to her passive that boosts ATK for archers and bomber units, double attack chance, and decreased counterattack damage taken. While you’ll mostly use her for her powerful buff, don’t discount Mellibee’s power afterwards. She still packs a punch!

A-Tier

Helga

On my command.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Powerful nuke and enabler for big offensive plays.

Helga does have a lot going for her, but as a support, I believe her biggest contribution lies in her Gruesome Dream skill that not only deals damage in a fan shaped AOE but also increases incoming damage. That’s right, incoming damage. This makes Helga an excellent enabler for assault tactics. The rest of her kit kind of fades away when compared to her skill, and with how potent said skill is? I say that’s okay.

B-Tier

Krishna

Butter.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Combine

Features:

  • Simple defensive support.

Krishna is a simple defensive support – she creates barriers, increases survivability, and has a chance to boost ATK and DEF when she uses her skill (though WHY they would make this chance-based is beyond me). As I like to say, simple is often best, and Krishna’s shields have a ton of applications. Covering retreats or making reckless moves is just the tip of the iceberg.

Korvo

korvo grand cross age of titans
Drone.

Rarity: Legendary
Preferred Unit Type: Infantry

Features:

  • Proactive defensive support with a good nuke.

I had a hard time placing Korvo on this list as initially, it looked like his kit made no sense. A high-damage nuke, defensive options when getting hit, and increased HP? It made no sense, until I realized that perhaps Korvo is best used for hit-and-run tactics. Agitator does quite a bit of damage (800% at max level) and both Bad News and Lazy Perfection allow Korvo to retreat more easily. Or you could just sacrifice his unit and see how long he can hold out. I don’t think he’ll mind.

C-Tier

Jangseung

jangseung grand cross age of titans
Sensei vibes.

Rarity: Unique
Preferred Unit Type: Archers

Features:

  • One-trick pony though that trick is good.

Jangseung is…weird. He could have just been a hunter hero, but instead he’s classified as a support. I suppose he does have powerful supportive potential via his Gatekeeper skill that not only deals damage but more importantly inflicts a big damage down debuff (30% at max level). Apart from that though, Jangseung just doesn’t have much going for him.

Play It Your Way

That concludes my tier list for Grand Cross: Age of Titans, and whether you came here to get some insight on who you should raise or just came to confirm your own good taste (I’m guilty of that too), always remember that games exist to be enjoyed, so play the game however you want to play!
