DISGAEA RPG’s success and popularity can be attributable to a lot of factors. Beyond the fans and followers the franchise has made across all its series of games and incarnations on other media, DISGAEA RPG’s perfect mix of staying true to the unique elements of the strategy RPG franchise and infusing faster and more convenient ways of engaging battles akin to conventional mobile gameplay.
While the world of DISGAEA RPG itself is brimming with content to discover and revel in, a lot of the fun and excitement it offers centers around the colorful cast of characters to collect, equip, and upgrade. Though some of the protagonists in earlier Disgaea games have been known to appear in succeeding titles, DISGAEA RPG brings all past characters together along with some characters and character versions exclusive to the game.
If you have just started diving into the bizarre yet immersive world of DISGAEA RPG, we highly recommend that you swoop over to our DISGAEA RPG beginner’s guide as it covers all the basic tips and strategies you need to jumpstart your adventure and start dominating the early challenges. Although we covered rerolling on the beginner’s guide and provided are first 3 picks, our DISGAEA RPG tier list aims to give you a basic idea of the best available characters to invest those hard-earned resources on.
Despite every developer’s intent to maintain balance across all playable characters in any game, at least those within the same rarity grade, it cannot be helped for some units to become favored by players as far as overall strength and utility is concerned. This is the main reason why tier lists exist. With even the smallest of gaps in overall value, the decision on which from among your collection of characters are worth investing on often rests on the tier lists you consult and take recommendations from.
Like all other tier lists out there as well as the other tier lists we published, our DISGAEA RPG tier list can be expected to be subjective. There are different ways to appraise each character’s value although for us, a character’s overall impact on his or her team is given consideration, especially since battles in DISGAEA RPG are team-based. The early contents can easily be plowed through regardless of how you build your team but as you move towards the end of the midgame and at the onset of the endgame, a formidable team becomes a critical necessity.
If you are a fan of the Disgaea series of games and have favorites among the huge roster of characters, then you may also opt to go with your favorite heroes regardless of what tier they are considered in. Beyond individual abilities and strengths, what matters is that you consider how each member of your party synergizes well with others. In a similar manner, keep in mind that simply lumping together the heroes in the top tier into your team may not necessarily be the best idea.
Although characters listed within the same tier arguably still have differences in overall strength and utilization, we consider them as equal to one another. Suffice to say, characters mentioned below are not listed from best to worst and are instead arranged alphabetically per tier.
DISGAEA RPG S Tier Characters
These characters are currently whom we consider as top of the line and are definitely worth every bit of investment. Given that more and more characters will eventually join DISGAEA RPG’s roster in the coming updates, a lot of the new characters may fill the top tier, causing for others to move a tier lower. In any case, even if equally or even more potent characters are introduced, these units still have their own unique skillsets and strengths that make them valuable.

Again, there are still plenty of unique characters who will be joining DISGAEA RPG’s already massive roster of heroes. For now, though, this is the end of our DISGAEA RPG Tier List. Newer characters to join may not just be intrinsically more favorable on their own but will most certainly impact everyone’s selection of members for their main team. It may happen as well that some units will have adjustments to their stats and skill effects on future updates, impacting this tier list all together.
While we stand with the idea that none of the unique characters in DISGAEA RPG are just downright useless, we cannot say the same for generic characters. Well, some of them seem fun to bring along but as far as team efficiency and resource management is concerned, at the very least focus on these unique heroes.
Beyond grouping unique characters in tiers, we hope that our DISGAEA RPG tier list has given you a solid idea of potential teams to build. If you read through the passive evilities each character in the list holds, you should somehow be able to associate and connect which of these heroes will work well with in a team. Likewise, as your adventures within the Netherworld provide a variety of challenges, it can happen that certain units or teams will be more suitable in certain situations. We reiterate the fact that DISGAEA RPG is a team-based game and considerations are best held on team value rather than individual capabilities.
Did your favorite characters make it to the top of our list? How differently would you rank the current unique heroes in the game? We understand and respect every opinion, regardless of how much it differs from our recommendations.
