Build Master: Open Fire is a game from FirstFun that is filled with good vibes and light-hearted fun which is sure to keep you busy during those boring hours in between commutes, waiting for the laundry or those moments in the morning when you’re still waiting for your brain to wake up.
In Build Master: Open Fire you are chosen as the Pioneer for the colonization of Mars. Your job is to secure an area of land and build a city. But your mission is not that simple. You must find resources, and construct your city from the ground up while fending your growing civilization from Pirates, Sandlords, and other threats who want to destroy it.
But fear not for you are not alone in your journey. Alongside you is Phoebe, your intelligent and beautiful assistant who instructs you in what you must do to accomplish your goals. Later on, you’d also meet Captain Gru who takes care of trades in MarsMart, giving you the funds you need and Bob the Pilot who helps you fight against your first threats. Along the way, you’ll meet even more friends and foes and even form alliances with fellow players.
While the game itself is pretty simple and can be picked up by just about anyone, the amount of content in the game can prove to be confusing or overwhelming to a new player. To help get you started, we created this handy-dandy guide to Build Master: Open Fire!

1. Bind Your Game Account to an Email Address
Before everything else, we highly recommend binding your game account to an email address. This will allow you to save your progress and be able to access it on any of your other devices. It also serves as a backup for when you delete the game but want to play it in the future. It prevents your account and its progress in the game from being lost.
2. Build a Team of Strong Heroes
As you create a bustling civilization on Mars, it is unavoidable to encounter threats lurking on this mysterious planet. Heroes can be deployed, along with units they may lead, to explore areas and battle against threats and enemies.
Combat Power is Everything
Combat in Build Master: Open Fire is very straightforward. Having more Combat Power than the enemy will give you higher chances of winning. The Heroes at the top of your list will always have the highest Combat Power. If you don’t have enough, you will need to train your heroes or rank them up to boost them.
Strengthen Your Heroes
In order for your Heroes to reach their full potential, you will need to get them to level up, rank up and star up!
Level Up!
There are two ways to level up your hero: using EXP Books to boost them or putting them under Special Hero Training. EXP Books can be obtained in many of the activities and tasks you can do in the game. One of the quickest ways is by exchanging your crops and products for them in the MarsMart.
Special Hero Training on the other hand plays out the same way as Explorations that you do when you claim blocks of land. Harvesting all of the resources in the instance is not required and you only really need to get enough trophies to clear each area up to the very end in order to get EXP for the Heroes you deployed.
Leveling up your hero is essential to ranking them up to make them stronger. Every 10 levels, you will get a prompt to breakthrough your hero level cap by ranking up.
Rank Up!
To Rank up your heroes, you will need to use Medals specific to that hero. Alternatively, you could get medals of the same color as your Hero’s rarity and turn them into hero-specific medals. You will need several of these medals to rank up along with a few coins. There are 4 hero rarities:
- Green – C-Rank
- Blue – B-Rank
- Purple – A-Rank
- Orange – S-Rank
Ranking up your heroes will increase their Combat Power, Attack, Defense, and number of Units they can lead. It also unlocks the hero’s passive and active skills. Legendary heroes also have an expertise skill unique to them. This will not change their color or rank rarities.
Star Up!
Increasing a hero’s star level involves consuming other hero posters. This gives duplicate heroes a valuable purpose since you can use them without losing a part of your hero collection. Heroes can usually only consume hero posters with similar heroes. However, when starring up heroes with half-stars, they allow you to consume posters of different heroes as long as it is within the same faction.
Every promotion adds half a star to your hero. After getting 1 full star, the game will require you to consume a hero poster with the same amount of full stars. A-Rank and S-Rank heroes’ star-up requirements are quite different.
At the start, an A-Rank will require you to use any 1-star poster of the same faction as the hero. While the requirements make you consume more posters, it also makes things a lot easier since A-Ranks and S-Ranks are hard to get and may even be impossible to star-up if they have to be promoted with duplicates of themselves.
Recruit More Heroes
Recruitment Tickets can be used in the Stargate to recruit more Heroes to your team. There are two types: Basic Recruits and Prime Recruits. Basic Recruits require you to use normal Recruitment Tickets with a 94.5% chance to get a C-Rank Hero, a 5% chance to get a B-Rank Hero, and a 0.5% chance to get an A-Rank Hero. Premium Recruits require you to use golden Premium Recruitment Tickets and give you far better chances.
Using them gives you a 65% chance to get a C-Rank Hero, a 28.5% chance to get a B-Rank Hero, a 5% chance to get an A-Rank Hero, and a 1.5% chance to get an S-Rank Hero. Premium Recruit also gives you a Luck meter which increases your chances to get an S-Rank Hero every time you use a ticket and get a non-S-Rank Hero. After getting 90 failed attempts, the next one would be a guaranteed S-Rank Hero.
Know the Different Hero Factions
There are 3 Hero Factions in Build Master: Open Fire: Fanatics, Federal Guard and Mafia. These Factions function like elements similar to most games that involve a battle system. Each Faction is strong against one and weak against another.
- Fanatics Heroes are strong against Federal Guard Heroes and weak against Mafia Heroes.
- Federal Guard Heroes are strong against Mafia Heroes but weak against Fanatics Heroes.
- Mafia Heroes are strong against Fanatics Heroes but weak against Federal Guard Heroes.
To help you become more familiar with the heroes of each faction and learn what they can do, we’ve listed each of them down and separated them by faction and rank:

3. Pick the Best Power-ups for Exploration
Power-ups are only offered during explorations of unclaimed land in your city or during training explorations. These power-ups appear once you clear a section of the area and offer three options: More hands, Faster, and Efficiency. Each power-up can be chosen 4 times in one exploration mission.
- More hands – This option adds a logger to your party who will help you chop up some Wood or destroy other harvestable obstacles like Stone. Among all of the power-ups, this seems to have the best benefit since having multiple units moving will let you harvest a lot of wood which is spread-out in the area.
- Faster – This option makes your units move and chop wood faster. This may be a good option if you’re in a hurry to finish the exploration.
- Efficiency – This option makes it easier to cut down trees, lessening the number of swings they need to finish the job. Between Faster and Efficiency, this one seems to be a lot more beneficial if you want to chop as many trees as you can to renew your resources.
4. Don’t Harvest What You Can’t Carry
Clearing an exploration or expedition does not require you to wipe the area off of its resources. There is always a carry limit and we highly recommend only taking what is necessary in order to not waste time.
For training explorations that require you to collect a certain number of trophies to unlock the next area, getting the minimum number is all that it takes for you to clear it and earn the EXP listed in the rewards. There is no need for you to harvest so much Wood or other resources. The only time you should consider staying to harvest a lot of Wood is if you lack the resources to upgrade your buildings.
Once you hit the carry limit, an option will pop up to use the Wood for your upgrades to make space for more wood that you can harvest. However, if you don’t want to use any of those options, you should just move on to the next area or the next exploration or expedition.
Increasing your warehouse storage by upgrading will increase the amount of items you have on hand in the city but it will not increase the number of items you can carry in explorations and expeditions.
5. Participate in Expeditions
Expeditions are an integral part of the progress of the story. These expeditions require you to deploy Heroes to explore an area and take longer than explorations. In expeditions, you can harvest resources, fight threats and discover the lore of the land.
Because there are more resources to harvest and more things to encounter in expeditions than explorations in Hero Trainings, you may miss a few things. To avoid that, you can toggle the switch next to the telescope icon to zoom out, giving you a bird’s eye view of the area.
There may be cases where you will need more Combat Power than you currently have or you may run out of energy as you go. In those cases, it is usually better to tab out of the expedition and come back again at another time. Leaving expeditions will not reset your progress. You can come back at any time with all your previous progress intact. The same is true for explorations that you do when clearing squares of land or when you train your Heroes.
6. Construct Your City
Building a life on Mars requires you to cultivate the land and construct the city from the ground up. From farms to apartments and even military bases, each decision falls to you. You can become creative in the way you organize and design your land, but you must also keep in mind what each structure’s function is to make an effective layout. The Building menu can be accessed by clicking on the icon with a hammer and wrench on the upper left side of your screen. Below are what each tab in the menu contains:
Robots
The Robots tab displays 6 robots you can bring to your city. Robots are in charge of building and upgrading your structures as well as research. At the start of the game, you will only have 1 robot: Eva. Once you level up your Headquarters you will be able to choose your Talents. Choosing the “More Robots” Talent will allow you to build a console that can house your second robot: Walle.
The robots in the Robots tab do not have any differences other than visual and all work the same way. The only benefit of having more than one robot is being able to build and upgrade multiple structures at a time. In the beginning, having many robots do not really matter much since it doesn’t take much time to build and upgrade your structures.
However, in later levels, where durations are a lot longer, they will be vastly helpful in speeding up your progress. Only the first two robots are free. The other four robots must be purchased with real money.
Life
The Life tab displays structures you can build that can improve life in your city. These buildings include facilities that can produce crops, products, and resources, structures that house robots, and shops where you can buy and sell goods.

Roads
The Roads tab allows you to pave or remove roads. Roads are essential for most of your buildings to become functional and must be placed near them. Farms are one of the only structures that do not require roads and can be placed away from them.
7. Upgrade Your Buildings
There are many reasons to upgrade your buildings. The most prevalent one is improving their function. A Bank would produce more Coins and an Apartment will have more population once upgraded. These upgrades are also required in the building and upgrade of some structures. Some will also require you to have a certain amount of resources which can be met through upgrading, especially if there is no option for you to construct multiple buildings of the same type.
Zooming in or out with your fingers on the screen will reveal the levels of your buildings, making it easier for you to know which ones are under-leveled. Another quick way to see which buildings can be upgraded immediately is by opening up your Building Menu and clicking one of the robots you own in the robot tab. Doing so will automatically bring you to that building.
Take note that you can only upgrade and construct buildings one at a time by default. If you want to upgrade and construct multiple buildings at a time, you will need to purchase additional robots with real money or unlock the “More Robots” talent from the Headquarters. Only 2 robots are obtainable without using real money.
Once a structure has finished being constructed or upgraded, it will be wrapped in a gift box. Before it becomes usable, you have to click it to activate it.
8. Accomplish Your Tasks
There are many tasks a Pioneer of Mars colonization has to accomplish day by day. Below are a few of those tasks:
Work on New Journey Tasks
New Journey Tasks are tasks you can only accomplish within your first 7 days of playing the game and are separated between New Beginnings and Keep Evolving. These tasks can be accessed by clicking on the “7” icon found at the upper right side of your screen next to the Calendar icon.
3 tabs of tasks are unlocked each day in New Beginnings. While it only shows 5 days, the extra 2 days are for any tasks you were not able to finish or for when you skip days. Tasks found in this tab include logging in every day, researching tech, training units, defeating pirates, helping allies, and so on. Keep Evolving on the other hand only requires you to reach a certain number of Combat Power.
Find Tasks With the Radar
Once you unlock and build the Radar at level 6, you will be able to take on tasks outside of your city such as investigating anomalies, clearing sandworms, collecting samples, and so on. While these tasks can also be found by changing the view by clicking the Globe icon at the lower left side of your screen, the number of cities surrounding you could make it hard to see.
Finding them through the radar makes things a lot simpler and will also indicate what kind of tasks they are and what kind of rewards you can earn. The colors of the icons of the Tasks show you what difficulty they are:
- Gray – Basic
- Green – Intermediate
- Blue – Senior
- Orange – Epic
- Yellow Orange Icon (Purple Text)- Special (not always difficult but doesn’t appear often)
Heroes used for these tasks can be set in the Headquarters under Defensive Troop.
Do Phoebe’s Tasks
Phoebe can be found next to the Headquarters. Clicking on her will open up a list of tasks along with the rewards that you can obtain from them. These tasks usually ask you to upgrade or build buildings, fill up MarsMart orders, or fight enemies.
Occasionally, Phoebe’s character will appear with a dialogue box with 3 dots on them, and clicking on her will prompt her to ask you a two-choice question. Upon answering correctly, you will receive an award which is usually Energy. Below are a few questions we encountered and the answers to them:
Q: How to improve a hero’s level quickly?
A: Head to the Hero Monument for special hero training.

Finish Chapter Tasks
Chapter Tasks are tasks that must be completed before you move on to the next chapter of the game. Each chapter introduces a new feature of the game along with its lore. Tasks may include defeating Pirates, upgrading buildings, constructing new structures, progressing your heroes, and so on.
Carry out Your Daily Tasks
Daily tasks can be found in Daily Events which can be accessed by clicking on the Compass icon on the left side of your screen. These tasks only last for a day before being reset for new tasks. Finishing a task will earn you points. Obtaining a certain number of points will open up a chest, granting you rewards. Getting 100 points will let you get all 5 chests.
The Daily Events page also serves as a shortcut for easy access to other daily tasks you can do.
Clear Warrior’s Battle Pass Tasks
The Warrior’s Battle Pass can be found by clicking on the Calendar icon at the upper right side of your screen. This section features both a list of Daily Tasks (which resets every day) and Regular Tasks (which don’t).
Accomplishing any of the tasks in these lists will earn you points and a few extra rewards like Crates and Recruitment Tickets. The points you accumulate can level up your Battle Pass and award you additional rewards. Basic Rewards are free while Prime Rewards require you to pay to unlock them along with the ability to claim double rewards of Daily Tasks.
Fill-Up MarsMart Orders
Filling up MarsMart orders is a quick way to earn Coins and EXP books. These orders can vary from crops and goods produced by your Farms, or products made by your Factories. Constantly having your Farms and Factories busy will make it easier to fill up those orders when you need to.
Exchange Goods at the Trade Center
The Trade Center functions similarly to Mars Mart where it requires you to produce a certain amount of goods in exchange for rewards. There are 9 orders at a time and completing them will allow you to launch the rocket and grant you a bonus reward.
If you don’t have enough of those products that they require, you can complete the order by paying with Amethysts. After the rocket leaves, you will have to wait a few hours before you can fulfill orders again. However, you can get a hint of what types of goods they will need and how much time is left before they arrive by clicking the building.
Contribute to Alliance Milestones
There are several Milestones you can achieve alongside your allies which include collectively doing similar tasks. This could include defeating Sandlords, filling-up MarsMart orders, finishing radar tasks, and so on. Accomplishing a Milestone will earn every ally a reward.
Auto-Join Rallies
Once you get your Headquarters to level 12, you will be able to make a Plaza that allows you to automatically join rally attacks of your allies. Auto-joining will passively earn you rewards even when you’re away from your game for the next 8 hours. You can have up to 30 Rally-joining rewards. These rewards can be claimed in the mail under the Jungle Tab.
Take on Bounty Missions
Once you’ve upgraded your Headquarters to level 15, you’ll be able to unlock the Guild Bounty. This building allows you to take on Bounties by dispatching your Heroes. Each Bounty displays the rewards you can receive along with the required heroes for them. These bounties are unlike Expeditions or Explorations and finish itself after a set amount of time has passed.
9. Claim Items and Rewards
While playing the game, it’s easy to lose track and forget to claim items and rewards. To aid you with this, we’ve listed a few of them down for reference. Note that collecting resources can quickly be done by clicking the icon above the building and not the building itself.
Check Mail for Freebies
In some cases, freebies you obtain from doing a particular task like Binding your Email account, Joining the Discord Server, or even just playing the game for the first time will end up in your Mail. Your Mail can be accessed by clicking on the Envelope icon on the upper left side of your screen. You’ll be able to know if there’s new mail if there’s a red dot on the upper right side of the icon.
Harvest From Your Buildings
You can harvest various resources for free from certain buildings regularly. It’s ideal to have at least one of these buildings. Below are a few of these buildings which you’ll be able to build in your first few levels playing the game:
- Lumber Mill – Wood
- Stone Mill – Stone
- Bank – Gold
- Expedition Camp – Energy
- Wind Turbine – Electricity
Don’t Harvest the Energy From Apartments Unless Needed
Energy obtained from Apartments comes at a cost which is usually crops that you can grow on your farms. While these crops are not too difficult to obtain, we recommend selling them in the MarsMart instead if your Energy bar still has enough energy. Once you get an Expedition Camp, you won’t need to solely rely on these buildings to get your energy.
However, if you are a frequent player and are always in need of more energy, you have to constantly replant your crops once they are ready to harvest. Take note that each apartment will ask for different things in exchange for energy. If you only have potatoes and one of the apartments are asking for corn, you can view other apartments that need what you have instead.
Use your Item Stocks
There may be instances where you feel like you harvested more Wood than what was in your warehouse. Your warehouse has a limited storage capacity and can only hold a certain amount of items at a time. But that doesn’t mean that the items you harvested before are gone.
If you open up your warehouse inventory (by clicking the inventory icon next to the energy bar), you will notice two tabs: one for the warehouse and one for items. All the extra items you obtained are placed there.
Beginners may not be aware of this feature and long-time players could also forget all about them since you won’t regularly open your storage as you play the game. If you want to use your stock, you have to transfer them to your warehouse first. To do that, you have to select and use them. Other materials such as stone and currencies such as gems and coins may also be found here and obtained in the same manner.
Obtain 7-Day Login Rewards
The 7-Day Login Rewards screen pops up once you open the game if you haven’t claimed it yet. However, if you click away and weren’t able to claim it, you can find it by clicking on the Calendar icon at the upper right side of your screen.
Get Daily Freebies
You can get Daily Freebies by going to the shop (by clicking on the chest icon at the upper right side of the screen), clicking on Daily Sale, and clicking on the white and gold chest at the upper right side of the screen.
Acquire Free Supplies
Free Supplies can also be found in the shop. It is the white and gold chest that can be found in Super Value Supplies at the upper right side of the screen.
Take Your Growth Program Rewards
Growth Program Rewards are also found in the shop. These rewards are 200 Amethysts which are granted to you every 5 levels. Upon unlocking the premium rewards for this, you will have 1,000-3,000 additional Amethysts.
Collect Radar Rewards
After accomplishing a Radar task, you won’t immediately obtain the rewards from it. You have to go back to the Radar Detection screen and click on the task you took before (which is marked with a red dot) and claim it. You will also have to claim Battle Rewards from these by clicking the Chest icon on the lower right side of your screen.
Claim Gifts from Allies
You can claim gifts from your allies by clicking on the Alliance Button at the lower right side of your screen. From there, click Gifts and Claim All to claim all Common Gifts. Rare Gifts have to be claimed one at a time. Note that this option and button will only be available once you’ve unlocked and built the Radar on your city at level 6.
Help Allies to Gain Individual Credits
Helping Allies not only positively contributes to their city’s progress, but it also earns you Individual Credits. You can also earn Individual Credits by donating Coins and Amethysts to your Alliance’s Techs. These Credits can be used to buy items in the Alliance Shop. If you are an Admin of the Alliance, you can spend these Credits to exchange for items in the Alliance Storehouse which will restock the Alliance Shop.
Items you can purchase in the Alliance shop include Speedups, Rename Cards, Peace Shields, Alliance Teleports, Agricultural Supply Chests, Data Chips, and so on. You can earn up to 1,000 Individual Credits per day.
Take Freebies from VIP Shop
After building Camp Golo, you’ll be able to access the VIP Shop. While this shop mostly contains goods that can only be bought with large amounts of Coins, Gems, or Premium Currency, it also has random freebies which you can claim. You could also refresh it once for free which will allow you to get another freebie.
Receive Free Golo the Finder Everyday
Upon upgrading your headquarters and getting a prompt to choose your talent, if Golo’s Diplomacy comes up, choose it to get a free Golo the Finder every day which gives you a chance to get Data Chips, Crystals, and other rewards. You can obtain them from Camp Golo.
Gain Freebies from VIP
From our experience, there doesn’t seem to be a straightforward way to access the VIP window. This is different from the VIP shop found in Camp Golo. The way we discovered it was by going through the shop > Life > Laboratory. It doesn’t matter if it says it is not yet available.
Clicking it will immediately open the VIP window where you can claim the blue and white chest found on the upper right side of the window. This can be claimed every day. Make sure to click the left arrow until you reach the very end as there will be another freebie you can obtain as VIP level 0 which is in a grayed-out chest. You might be able to access this page a lot more easily once you finally built the Laboratory.
10. Join the Discord Server
Joining the game’s official Discord Server doesn’t just introduce you to a community of passionate players and an even more passionate team behind it, the game also rewards you with a special in-game gift.
