Ketchapp’s latest casual puzzle game for Android and iOS is as simple as the games they tend to release in quick succession. The new game is called Ballz, and as Ketchapp puts it, this is the “champion of time killer(s),” and a great way to relax your brain. There isn’t much to this game – just swipe your finger in order to throw the balls and break the bricks. Your goal is to break as many bricks as you could before they sink to the bottom of your screen, and collect more items so you can get additional balls and “make an endless ball chain.” Brick levels will be increased with each round you complete, and Ketchapp also suggests that it’s “very hard to reach high scores,” despite the game being easy to play – guess this is their take on the time-tested catchphrase for these casual games, “easy to learn, hard to master.”
If you’ve seen the game’s sample images on the App Store or Play Store, or opened the game and given it a few spins, you’ll realize that it’s very similar in concept to Breakout and other classic arcade games of a similar nature. (But not the same!) This is good old-fashioned retro fun from a company that specializes in the casual arcade genre, so read on for some Ballz tips and hints to help you get the highest possible score.
1. The Bricks / Tiles Shouldn’t Hit The Floor
Although we did mention that Ballz is similar to Breakout, Arkanoid, and other games of that kind, it is ultimately different as the goals are different. The former games would require you to break all the bricks. But the opposite holds true in Ballz – in here, your goal is to prevent the bricks from reaching the bottom. Still, there are some things that you’ll need to do that are more similar to the mechanics of Breakout, etc., such as clearing bricks that are falling down. Also, take note that each of the bricks have a number, which designates the number of times you should hit it before it’s cleared; if you see the number 2 on a brick, you have to hit it twice, and you’ll have to hit a brick with the number 3 three times, and so on. We would recommend prioritizing those bricks that have higher numbers, then working your way down to the easier ones.
2. More Balls, More Bricks Cleared
Clearing tiles and making sure they don’t hit the bottom is one thing. But may also encounter flashing circles, which you should hit in order to get more balls. At the start, you’ll have just one ball, but you shouldn’t misconstrue the number of balls as your equivalent of lives. Once all of the balls hit the floor, that’s the end of your turn, but one thing you should remember is that more balls means more chances to clear more bricks. Also remember that you won’t have full control over the balls, which means some of them may bounce or drop immediately.
3. It’s All About Angling Your Shots
There is a physics mechanic to this game that’s similar to the physics in Breakout and its ilk. It’s normally not recommended that you aim the balls in a straight line; instead, you’ll have to angle your shots to get the best possible results. For example, the manner in which you angle your shot would determine how high it will bump upwards. And that’s actually what you want to happen, as it’s going to take longer for the ball(s) to make their way down. You may even end up with more bricks cleared if it takes a while for the ball to descend. The best angles to use in this game will all depend on you, but the main thing to avoid is firing the balls straight away each and every time.
4. Make The Ball Bounce As Often As Possible
Although it’s important that you’re able to come up with the ideal angle, it’s also important that you angle your shots in such a way that they bounce as often as possible, and for as long as possible. More bounces means more chances to clear the bricks, and in order to get more bounces, you should try to aim the ball so that it sneaks into those gaps. Once a ball makes it through there, it will keep on bouncing and keep on chipping away at the bricks, thus allowing you to clear levels faster and further your progress in the game.
That’s all for now. If you know other tips and tricks for the Ketchapp’s new mobile title, Ballz, then feel free to leave us a message!
I’m trying to understand the game’s logic as far as how new blocks appear. Clearly the increase in value(the number on each block) and it is an exponential increase.
But what about the number of new blocks that generate and their position. Is it random or is it following a logarithm of some sort. Is it better to try to leave a couple blocks with each shot or try to clear the screen with each shot? Some games end up being much harder than others. That might be random and all part of the design. Or maybe I can improve my score with better strategy.
Anyone know or have access to the code? Java, I’m guessing.
The number of tiles is usually around 2x the level that you’re on, and for the first few hundred levels, you have as many balls as the level. Im currently at 423, and I only have 453 balls, so I’ve been given less than usual
That means some of the white dots that give you balls fell into the ground and you didn’t get them in time.
I have hundreds of coins in this game, I have bought all the different coloured balls but there doesnt seem to be anything else to buy. Other sites have said you can buy more balls to start with and other ‘power-ups’ but how?
I’m at 825. Does anyone know someone with a higher score than that?
i have got 1,024
im currently at 2315 anyone got a higher score?
My friend has 1200
I have 1200+ at the moment …..I’m still going but scared to play. (Don’t want to lose)lol
Well my high score is 38, and I’ve had it for a while now. I’m pretty proud of myself TBH
If youre about to lose, pause the game and click main menu then click play, you will get another chance from where you were previous to leaving the game, can do unlimited times
I’m at 2019 and counting
I’m at 1917
I am at 2115 and counting
I’m at 1351, and I’m still playing
my high score is 404 would have gotten higher but i got messed up. anyone know and tips or anything like that to help me out.
What is the point of purchasing the different balls? Is there a difference?
I’m confused also about purchasing the different colored balls. What is the difference? And I’ve purchased the white balls but I don’t see any difference in the games and how do you know when u have used all of them. Love the game but don’t understand the purchase of these balls. Different colors, that’s it?
I’m currently at 1839 and counting. It truly is all about the angles!
the game is pointless, everytime you perform an incorrect shot so long as you come out of the game before the shot finishes when you go back in you will be taking the same shot again! this means that the people with monster scores probably do this trick so they never have a misplaced shot thus ensuring them never losing!
If you close the app or go back to the main menu before the balls reset, your turn will restart. So if you mess up a shot
you’ll have as many chances as you need.
Does any one have a screenshot of all the colors of balls so I can see which ones are worth buying?
I am currently at 3021!! At least I was that is my high.
How do you spend the coins or buy different colored balls?
What’s the deal with the scoring? I was around the 400 mark, when I noticed I wasn’t getting a point per cleared tile! Is this a glitch?
it is per level tat it moves down not per tile
Would someone please answer the question about the colored balls? I have used my coins to purchase every single one of them, but they don’t appear to be making a difference in any way. I don’t understand why someone would BUY those coins…if they only thing spending them does is get a different colored ball…am I missing something?
I have the same question. I have been following this thread, waiting for someone to answer you. I wish someone knew… It looks like the only point is to have a different color, in case people get bored…??? Dumb.
I’m at 4147
I’m really confused. What is the point of the yellow circles? What do they do?
They are coins that you can use to but different colored balls
I’ve got blue balls
Im on 4576
Ok guys. Cut it with the scores now and can somebody please answer the damn colored balls question!!??
The colour of the balls don’t make any difference
Im at 3515 but now the app is crashing after finishing the level so not able to contine. Anyone seeing same issue?
How to resolve?
I have the same crash at 3727 or something like that
I had it at 3705 and it temporarily got over it, then started to take a couple of runs at it before it would advance… now… stalled
I’m stalled at level 4489. It went back to level 4488 and I can play that level but it will not advance. Any ideas of hoe to fix the problem?
How does this game decide what blocks drop down next and what their number is, where the go etc???
Adding another vote on the colored balls. I have a feeling it’s some kind of psychological experiment to see how many people buy coins or go crazy trying to figure this out. nothing at all in the instructions and not even obvious how to get to the shop to buy them, then you but them and… ??? no difference
I thought 5000 was the highest possible score and that the game would stop after that; unfortunately not. Now on 5005 and trying to decide if enough is enough🧐. Good luck!
I died at 6552, does anyone know the highest score?
