ZIO and the Magic Scrolls Tier List: Ranking the Best Characters in the Game

Welcome back, magister. To help you decide on which heroes you should pull for and which ones you should invest in, we’ve compiled a tier list based on our own experiences while playing ZIO and the Magic Scrolls. Like all tier lists, this one is subjective and is not a definitive list of information – but hopefully it’ll help you handpick heroes for your teams.

zio and the magic scrolls tier list

Hero skills are labeled as numbered lists, with each number representing the skill’s level. Take note that the dragons Exavius, Diogoram, and Gallistos have an extra passive skill, which we’ve included here.

Heroes have been divided into 4 tiers – S, A ,B , and C – within their respective classes, so that you’ll have an easier time comparing them to characters that generally do the same things. We’ll also put a disclaimer and general tip here to replace the genetic units as quickly as possible.

With that said, let’s get started with our ZIO and the Magic Scrolls tier list!

Magician Tier List

zio and the magic scrolls magician tier list

S-Tier

Exavius

exavius zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:
Power: Reduces enemy physical ATK by 10% and increase allies’ magic ATK by 10%.
(Ultimate) Explosion

  1. Deals 120% damage to nearby enemies and leaves burning ground. Enemies standing on burning ground take 20% damage per second.
  2. Initial damage increased to 140%.
  3. Burning ground also gives a -10% DEF debuff to enemies standing in it.

Dragon Roar

  1. Deals 80% damage to all enemies and silences them for 3 seconds. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 100%
  3. Enemies hit also have 2% reduced mana recovery speed for 3 seconds.

Strong Fireball

  1. Deals 120% damage to an enemy and stuns for 2 seconds. 5 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 140%.
  3. Stun time increased to 4 seconds.

Tactic

  1. If Exavius is in the front row when battle begins, he has a 10% incoming physical damage reduction buff. If he’s in the backrow, he gains a 10% ATK buff.
  2. Front row bonus now also grants Exavius +10% DEF.
  3. Further increases the damage bonus in the backrow.

The fire dragon Exavius is what you’d expect from a master of flames – huge AOEs, disruptive burns, a party-wide silence attack, and a versatile position-dependent buff. Exavius’ unique bonuses revolve around his burning ground debuff, improving its duration, damage, and adds a mana burn down the line.

In addition to all these, Exavius is one of the few heroes to have a passive Power; in his case, Exavius weakens enemies and strengthens magic-based allies just by being on the field, making him a formidable centerpiece in any mage-based team.

Sumima

sumima zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Dansei Hunting

  1. Creates a traveling electric wave that explodes when it reaches its target, dealing 260% damage to enemies caught in the blast.
  2. Damage increased to 280%.
  3. Damage increased to 320%.

Shiro Densha

  1. Fire 3 lightning bolts for 100% damage. These bolts pierce enemies and hit everything in their path, but lose 10% damage for each extra enemy hit, up to 3 times. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 110%.
  3. Fires one more lightning bolt.

Magic Reflex

  1. Sumima has a 40% chance to reflect 100% of incoming magical damage. Countered damage cannot exceed 200% of Sumima’s ATK. 3 second cooldown.
  2. Counter chance increased to 50%.
  3. Counter chance increased to 70%.

Self Care

  1. After using Dansei Hunting, Sumima gains a 20% mana recovery speed buff for 5 seconds.
  2. Mana recovery speed buff increased to 25%.
  3. Also gives a 10% ATK buff for 5 seconds.

Few characters can stand up to the high bar for S-tier set by the dragons, and Sumima is one of them. Not only does he have fantastic AOE capabilities, but Sumima also boosts his own mana regen and grows stronger for each enemy felled if you improve his unique ability.

Shiro Densha is an amazing skill that can make quick work of tightly-packed enemy formations (taunts say hi) despite it losing potency for each enemy hit. Magic Reflex punishes strong enemy mages, giving them a taste of their own medicine.

A-Tier

Michel

michel zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Dark Stuff

  1. Fires dark arrows which deal 260% damage to enemies hit and inflicting a 15% DEF debuff for 3 seconds.
  2. DEF debuff increased to 20%.
  3. Damage increased to 290%.

Curse of Time Confirmed Death

  1. Marks an enemy with a curse. After 4 seconds, that enemy explodes for 270% damage. If this skill kills an enemy, the curse is transferred to a random enemy. Multiple instances of this skill cannot stack. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 300%.
  3. Enemies now explode after 3 seconds.

Great Warlock’s Power

  1. ATK increased by 10%.
  2. Bonus increased to 15%.
  3. Bonus increased to 20%.

The One Who Has Reached The Overlapping World

  1. Each fallen ally increases Michel’s ATK by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 7.5%.
  3. Bonus increased to 10%.

Silly ultimate name aside, Michel makes for a decent damager, but his real value lies in the DEF debuff that goes with Dark Stuff. It’s surprisingly rare to find debuffs tied to ultimates or that aren’t conditional, so Michel’s ultimate comes as a welcome gift to his allies.

Investing in his unique ability also allows his curse to inflict a 15% DEF debuff while slowing enemies down. His 4th skill is pretty meh. While it does scale pretty hard (up to 40% ATK buff if Michel is alone) it’s not something you actively want to go for.

B-Tier

Zio

zio zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:
(Ultimate) Instrument Hellraiser

  1. Deals 250% damage in a small AOE with a 2 second stun.
  2. Stun time increased to 3 seconds.
  3. Damage increased to 310%.

Magic Rampage

  1. Deals 250% damage to nearby enemies. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 270%.
  3. Has a 10% chance to inflict stun or silence for 2 seconds on each enemy hit.

Scroll – Recover

  1. Zio heals for 15% of his max HP if his health drops below 50%. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Recovery increased to 20%.
  3. 9 second cooldown.

Scroll – Silence

  1. Does 240% damage to a random enemy and silences them for 2 seconds. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Silence duration increased to 3 seconds.
  3. Damage increased to 240%.

You get Zio for free, so that’s a point in his favor. As the protagonist of the story, Zio’s pretty decent in general – he has some AOEs and self-sustain, though they’re nothing too fancy. He offers a little bit of everything but lacks that special zing that makes damagers really shine.

Zbella

zbella zio and the magic srolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:
(Ultimate) Summon Mammothan

  1. Deals 150% damage in an AOE with a 2 second stun.
  2. Damage increased to 170%.
  3. Damage increased to 200%.

Underworld’s Cannibals

  1. Deals 150% damage in an AOE and applies a -150% movespeed debuff on enemies hit for 2 seconds. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 200%.
  3. Damage increased to 250%.

Deputy Commander’s Power

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Low Morale

  1. Normal attacks have a 20% chance to inflict a -10% DEF debuff.
  2. Defense penalty increased to -15%.
  3. Defense penalty increased to -20%.

Zbella brings powerful crowd control to the battlefield, with her stuns and move speed debuffs. The real treat, however, lies in her 2nd passive skill. 20% is a decent proc chance, but you’ll want allies who can increase Zbella’s attack speed to really get the most out of her. Alas, her multipliers are low, so she’ll quickly be overshadowed by stronger heroes. It’s better to think of Zbella as more of an offensive support than damaging mage.

Juan

juan zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Ignis, Ghelu

  1. Deals 200% damage twice to the enemy with the highest max HP. The target has a 50% chance to be frozen for 3 seconds. If the freeze roll fails, they instead burn for an additional 20% damage.
  2. Initial damage increased to 230%.
  3. Initial damage increased to 270%.

Giant Fireball

  1. Deals 200% damage in an AOE.
  2. Damage increased to 220%.
  3. Damage increased to 250%.

Best Spirit User

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Spirit’s Blessing

  1. Creates a shield on self with health equal to 5% of Juan’s ATK. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Shield health scaling increased to 10% of Juan’s ATK.
  3. Shield health scaling increased to 15% of Juan’s ATK.

Juan is a potent nuker that throws in some status ailments for good measure. While his multipliers are high, he’s let down by his lower base rarity, which means lower stat caps and no unique ability. Juan is definitely useable, but don’t invest in him too much.

Silvia

silvia zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Meteor

  1. Deals 80% * 3 damage to enemies. Also burns enemies for 30% damage per second for 3 seconds.
  2. Burn damage increased to 40%.
  3. Damage per hit increased to 110%.

Boom

  1. Detonates a nearby enemy, dealing 80% to it and to enemies around it. If a burning enemy takes damage from this, they are also stunned for 2 seconds.
  2. Each time Silvia uses a skill, Boom’s damage is increased by 10% to a cap of 50%.
  3. Stun time increased to 4 seconds.

Fierce Battle

  1. Crit damage increased by 20%.
  2. Crit rate increased by 10%.
  3. Crit damage bonus increased to 30%.

Flame’s Blessing

  1. Using Meteor increases all skill damage by 10%.
  2. Damage bonus increased to 15%.
  3. Burned enemies take 10% more damage from any damage instance from Silvia.

The idea with Silvia is that she’ll be left alone to spam her Meteor and Boom to ramp up their damage. The problem is that not only does this take time, but that they also scale quite slowly at 10% per use. It won’t be uncommon to have Silvia flat on the ground before she can get to respectable damage. And let’s face it – the multipliers are low and anyone who can deal ultimate damage in a single bundle will do a better job.

Narfume

narfume zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Enchant

  1. Enchants 2 nearby enemies for 2 seconds, dealing 180% damage to them. Enchanted enemies cannot use skills and will attack their allies.
  2. Damage increased to 220%.
  3. Enchant duration increased to 4 seconds.

Sweet Dream

  1. Links Narfume and an enemy, dealing 45% damage per second for 4 seconds and stunning them for the duration. Narfume cannot use other skills while Sweet Dream is active. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Damage per second increased to 50%.
  3. Damage per second increased to 60%.

Unfair Contract

  1. Hits a random enemy with a 15% attack speed debuff for 5 seconds. Narfume gains 15% attack speed. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Duration increased to 7 seconds.
  3. Attack speed debuff increased to 20%.

Energy Absorption

  1. Narfume’s normal attacks have a 30% chance to give her 50 mana.
  2. Proc chance increased to 50%.
  3. Mana restored increased to 80.

Narfume is highly dependent on what kind of enemy you’re fighting, and gets the most mileage out of enchanting stronger foes. The problem is her targeting doesn’t let her pick backline enemies who will be pelting your units with strong attacks.

While Narfume can be very disruptive, the problem with hard crowd control remains – it’s usually better to just trample your enemies to dust than finagle with gimmicky status effects.

Marilyn

marilyn zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Dark Knight

  1. Summons a Dark Knight at her target’s location, dealing 60% damage per second and burning 15 mana.
  2. Damage per second increased to 70%.
  3. Dark Knight ATK boost increased to 70%.

Felcromer

  1. Summons a Felcromer behind a nearby enemy, which taunts nearby enemies for 3 seconds. The Felcromer has 70% of Marilyn’s ATK and max HP and 100% of her DEF. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Felcromers now have 100% of Marilyn’s max HP.
  3. Felcromers regenerate 1% of their max HP per second.

Vituperation

  1. Reduces the mana recovery speed of the enemy with the highest ATK by 15% for 5 seconds. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Also reduces attack speed by 5%.
  3. Also reduces ATK by 10%.

Stone Scorpion Plum Seeds

  1. If Marilyn’s HP is reduced to 50% or less, she enters stasis for 3 seconds. Marilyn cannot attack nor be attacked while in stasis. This skill triggers once per battle.
  2. Marilyn heals for 30% of her max HP while in stasis.
  3. Marilyn’s mana recovery speed is boosted by 30% while in stasis.

Marilyn is another gimmicky character, this time using disposable, renewable minions. The skill description for Dark Knight is sorely lacking, but I would assume that it summons an actual minion as it makes note of an ATK increase.

Marilyn’s Felcromers are the real threat – they taunt and are effectively a new hero on the field. Increasing Marilyn’s unique ability levels will also strengthen your Felcromers, allowing her to summon up to 3 of them at once. Aside from these, she’s fairly meh for a mage as she lacks direct damage options.

C-Tier

Mage

mage zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:
(Ultimate) Chant

  1. Deals 230% damage to a nearby enemy.
  2. Damage increased to 250%.
  3. Damage increased to 280%.

Buff

  1. Grants a 10% ATK buff to the ally with the highest ATK. 10 second cooldown.
  2. ATK bonus increased to 12%.
  3. ATK bonus increased to 15%.

Magic Training

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Physical Training

  1. DEF increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Seriously, a magician-type hero named “Mage”? He couldn’t have been “Court Mage” or “Apprentice Mage”? This generic-ness spills into his utility in battle where he doesn’t particularly shine at any one thing. One thing you should note about Mage is that he does have a damage buff (a buff named Buff, perfect for a mage named Mage) which is meager but targets the unit with the highest ATK.

Warlock

warlock zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Chant

  1. Deals 250% damage to a nearby enemy.
  2. Damage increased to 280%.
  3. Damage increased to 330%.

Curse

  1. Deals 220% damage to the enemy with the highest ATK. Reduces their ATK by 5% and lowers their attack speed by 10% for 3 seconds. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 230%
  3. Damage increased to 260%.

Apprentice Black Magic

  1. DEF increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Magic Training

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

The second Mage palette swap, the Warlock looks great on paper but doesn’t actually perform that well in live combat. His high multipliers are overshadowed by his lower base stats, and early game content isn’t difficult enough to warrant bringing a dedicated debuffer in your party.

Choi Myeon Geol

choi myeon geol zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Fresh Flash

  1. Deals 60% damage per second for 4 seconds to nearby enemies. Also reduces ATK and DEF by 10% for 1.1 seconds.
  2. Damage per second increased.
  3. Damage per second increased.

Life Absorption

  1. Deals 220% damage to one enemy. This skill has 5% life steal. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 250%.
  3. Damage increased to 290%.

Advanced Black Magic

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Curse

  1. Normal attacks have a 20% chance to inflict a 10% ATK debuff.
  2. ATK debuff increased to 15%.
  3. ATK debuff increased to 20%.

Choi Myeon Geol was so disappointing that the person writing his skill info gave up halfway through. Fresh Flash isn’t labeled as either AOE or single target, and the damage increase is ambiguous. His kit is as half-baked as his skill descriptions, and even his debuffs just barely help with a 1.1 second uptime.

He has a life drain skill but will likely be out of danger if your tank is doing their job. Unlike Zbella, who might fit in the same niche as Choi, Choi brings absolutely nothing to the table that someone else can’t do better. Choi also serves as a reminder that rarity does not equal quality.

Fighter Tier List

S-Tier

Mei

mei zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) War Declaration

  1. Deals 240% damage to nearby enemies. Heals Mei for 15% of her max HP.
  2. Damage increased to 260%.
  3. Also gives a 10% DEF buff for 5 seconds.

Wall Power Plant

  1. Deals 200% damage to enemies in front of Mei and stuns them for 2 seconds. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 230%.
  3. Stun time increased to 4 seconds.

Counterattack

  1. When receiving damage, Mei has a 30% chance to counter for 120% of the damage she would have received. In addition, countered attacks deal 50% less damage to Mei. Counterattack damage is capped at 150% of Mei’s ATK. 3 second cooldown.
  2. Counter rate increased to 50%.
  3. Countered damage increased to 150% of the damage Mei would have received.

Taunt

  1. Taunts random enemies for 2 seconds. Mei gains a shield with health equal to 15% of her max HP for 5 seconds.
  2. Shield max HP scaling increased to 20%.
  3. Taunt duration increased to 4 seconds.

There are very few fighters in the game – so few that I can’t classify any of them as A-Tier because none of them even come close to Mei. Not only does Mei deal great damage on her own, she has a powerful self-sustain, a taunt, and a stun, making her a hybrid tank/DPS. Counterattack is ridiculous enough on its own, but give Mei some unique ability levels and watch her beat down even the strongest enemies. It’ll be fun.

B-Tier

Centaur Warrior

centaur warrior zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:

(Ultimate) Penetrate

  1. Throws a returning spear that deals 110% damage to targets it hits.
  2. Damage increased to 125%.
  3. Damage increased to 160%.

Centaur’s Hoof

  1. Deals 200% damage to nearby enemies and inflicts a 1 second stun. 6 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 250%.
  3. Stun time increased to 2 seconds.

Centaur’s Strong Body

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Extraordinary Recovery

  1. Incoming healing increased by 10%.
  2. Bonus increased to 15%.
  3. Bonus increased to 30%.

Perhaps the worst thing about the Centaur Warrior is that there’s nothing at all to say about her aside from “she’s higher rarity than the Undead so she at least gets bumped up to B-tier because of higher stat caps”. Pick a hunter instead – most of them can do a better job than the Centaur Warrior.

Khan

khan zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Brother’s Revenge

  1. Deals 70% * 4 damage to a nearby enemy.
  2. Damage per hit increased to 90%.
  3. This skill has 60% life steal.

Lycanthrope’s Tooth

  1. Deals 230% damage to one enemy. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 250%.
  3. Also gives Khan 10% incoming damage reduction for 3 seconds.

Revenge

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Pain of Growth

  1. Normal attacks have a 30% chance to inflict a 10% incoming heal debuff.
  2. Incoming heal debuff increased to 15%.
  3. Incoming heal debuff increased to 20%.

Surprise, surprise – Khan actually makes for a decent fighter, though his kit may seem more suitable for a tank. Khan’s ultimate has a hefty amount of life steal, which is great although it doesn’t fully make up for its low damage, multi-hit attacks that are more heavily penalized by DEF.

His Lycanthrope’s Tooth also gives damage mitigation, although it’s just 10% and it’s only for 3 seconds. Note that I said “decent fighter”. While he’s not bad per se, Khan leaves much to be desired in a melee unit, and will quickly be overshadowed by stronger units.

C-Tier

Undead

undead zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Continuous Tear

  1. Deals 130% * 2 damage to a nearby enemy.
  2. Damage per hit increased to 140%.
  3. Damage per hit increased to 170%.

Scratch

  1. Deals 240% damage to a nearby enemy.
  2. Damage increased to 260%.
  3. Damage increased to 280%.

Life Extortion

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Anger Over Life

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Yet another generic unit that, unsurprisingly, is at the bottom of the tier list in their respective role. The Undead offers nothing new nor exciting in the Fighter role, and is proof positive that some things should just stay dead.

Hunter Tier List

S-Tier

Gallistos

gallistos zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:
Power: Increases the physical ATK of all allies by 7.7%; if there are 3 or more physical-type heroes in the party, the bonus is increased to 15.4%.
(Ultimate) No Mercy

  1. Deals 100% damage to nearby enemies 4 times. The 4th hit also deals 5% damage per second for 5 seconds.
  2. Initial damage increased to 110%.
  3. Getting hit with No Mercy increases the damage of the next hit of the same skill by 5%.

Madness

  1. Deals 110% * 4 damage to one enemy. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Damage per hit increased to 130%.
  3. Also stuns for 3 seconds.

Swiftness

  1. If Gallistos kills a target, he immediately teleports to a nearby enemy, dealing 150% damage to them.
  2. Damage increased to 170%.
  3. Swiftness triggers at the beginning of a battle, targeting the enemy furthest from Gallistos.

Destroyer

  1. When attacking a shielded enemy, Gallistos gains a 10% ATK buff for 5 seconds.
  2. Buff increased to 20%.
  3. Buff increased to 35%.

Gallistos is to the hunter class what Exavius is to the mage class. He give your other hunters a very sizeable buff, especially with the formation condition. As you might expect, Gallistos himself is a physical powerhouse who’s capable of assassinating squishy targets, teleporting around the battlefield and destroying shields all while dealing up to 30% bonus damage based on the HP of the enemy he’s fighting.

Like Exavius, you’ll want to build a team around Gallistos, though thankfully his requirements aren’t too harsh – you can have Gallistos himself and 2 more allies and that’ll count, allowing you to add supporters or mages if you so wish.

A-Tier

Tumia

tumia zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Exorcism

  1. Deals 250% damage to nearby enemies and stuns them for 2 seconds.
  2. AOE increased.
  3. Damage increased to 300%.

Purifying Ritual

  1. Nearby allies gain a 10% ATK buff for 5 seconds. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Also gives a 10% movement buff for 5 seconds.
  3. ATK buff increased to 15%.

Sacred Realm

  1. Reduces enemy ATK by 10% in an AOE around Tumia for 5 seconds. 15 second cooldown.
  2. ATK debuff increased to -15%.
  3. ATK debuff increased to -20%.

Pilgrim of Truth

  1. Max HP increased by 10%.
  2. Bonus increased to 15%.
  3. Bonus increased to 20%.

Tumia not only deals decent damage on her own, but it’s her abilty to buff her comrades that also makes her a valuable pick. Her kit of damage, stuns, and debuffs makes her ideal for leading the charge into enemy ranks, and her unique skill really pushes her status as a frontliner, giving allies 15% damage reduction if Tumia is in the front row at the beginning of battle.

Zabatus

zabatus zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Blood Slash

  1. Deals 80% damage to nearby foes with a 70% chance to gain the cut ailment. Cut enemies take 150% of Zabatus’ ATK for 6 seconds after every 3 normal attacks. Zabatus is invincible during Blood Slash’s animation.
  2. Initial damage increased to 90%.
  3. Cut damage increased to 180%.

Crescent Slash

  1. Deals 250% damage to nearby enemies. This skill has 15% life steal.
  2. Damage increased to 280%.
  3. If Crescent Slash is lethal, its cooldown is immediately reset.

Demon Skin

  1. Passively reduces magic damage taken by 30%.
  2. Increases magic damage reduction to 40%.
  3. Zabatus’ attacks also inflict a 15% DEF debuff for 5 seconds.

Flash

  1. Teleports to the enemy with the highest ATK, dealing 150% damage to it. Inflicts a 20% ATK debuff on targets hit, while Zabatus gains 20% ATK for 5 seconds. If the target dies, Flash will select a new target.
  2. Also stuns for 3 seconds on hit.
  3. Also creates a shield for Zabatus with health equal to 150% of his ATK.

Zabatus is a powerful hunter that specializes in fighting mages, but will still handily slay any foe he comes across. Blood Slash is very gimmicky with low initial multipliers and most of its damage coming from the 70% cut status.

Crescent Slash, on the other hand, has good multipliers, life steal AND resets its own cooldown if it lands a kill. Flash both allows Zabatus to both tie up the strongest enemy present and hit it with a potent attack debuff. Zabatus thrives on the chaos of combat, and even the mightiest foes should be wary of his presence.

White

white zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Thousand Fires

  1. Deals 260% damage to all enemies. Also has a 70% chance to inflict bleed, which causes 40% damage per second for 5 seconds.
  2. Bleed damage increased to 60% per second.
  3. Initial damage increase to 290%.

Abyssal Being

  1. White buffs himself, gaining 20% attack speed and 10% ATK for 5 seconds. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Duration increased to 7 seconds.
  3. ATK buff increased to 20%.

Foreign Shotgun

  1. Deals 60% damage to nearby enemies. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 70%.
  3. Damage increased to 80%.

Blink Trigger

  1. If White loses more than 15% of his max HP in a single attack, that damage is blocked and White is teleported to a random area within your side of the field. Also increases White’s attack speed by 10% for 5 seconds. 15 second cooldown.
  2. Attack speed buff increased to 15%.
  3. Attack speed buff increased to 20%.

White is a fantastic hunter who knows what his job is and executes it with pinpoint precision. Ultimate that hits everyone and has a chance to apply a DOT? Check. Self-buff that’s virtually always up? Check. Self-preservation move? Check. The only reason he isn’t higher on this list is that Gallistos exists.

Tun

tun zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Celestial Blue-Black Slash

  1. Deals 230% damage to enemies in front. Marked enemies take 30% extra damage from this skill.
  2. Damage increased to 230%.
  3. Damage increased to 250%.

Celestial Blue-Black Double Blade Dance – Attack

  1. Deals 220% damage to nearby enemies and marks them for 10 seconds. 10 second cooldown. If Tun hits a marked enemy 3 times with his normal attack, this skill’s cooldown is reset instantly.
  2. Damage increased to 240%.
  3. Damage increased to 270%.

The Shaos’ Swordsmanship

  1. Deals 90% * 3 damage to one enemy. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage per hit increased to 100%.
  3. Damage per hit increased to 120%.

Strength Absorption

  1. Attacking a marked enemy gives Tun a 5% ATK and DEF buff for 5 seconds.
  2. DEF buff increased to 8%.
  3. ATK buff increased to 8%.

Tun is a hunter who benefits a lot from investment in his unique ability and attack speed buffs. With enough buffs, Tun’s Celestial Blue-Black Double Blade Dance – Attack (what a mouthful!) will continuously reset its own cooldown for massive damage. Apart from this ridiculous combo, Tun’s not too bad, but nothing spectacular either. That combo is just too good.

Morrison

morrison zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Electric Barrage

  1. Deals 270% damage to nearby enemies and reduces their mana by 50.
  2. Supporter heroes hit by this skill also have 10% reduced mana recovery for 5 seconds.
  3. Damage increased to 310%.

Overload

  1. Deals 250% damage to nearby enemies and stuns for 2 seconds. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 280%.
  3. Stun time increased to 3 seconds.

Colorless Flash

  1. Teleports behind the enemy furthest from Morrison at the start of combat. If that target dies, instantly teleports to the next enemy.
  2. Evasion increased by 20% for 5 seconds after teleporting.
  3. ATK increased by 10% for 5 seconds after teleporting.

Electric Shock

  1. Morrison’s skills also inflict 1 stack of electric shock to enemies. At 5 stacks, enemies are stunned for 2 seconds.
  2. Stun requirement reduced to 4 stacks.
  3. Morrison adds a shock stack to an enemy every 3 normal attacks.

I was expecting Morrison to be a mage, but he’s a hunter. The dev team seems to really like hunters. Hunters like Morrison, who hate supporters, who deal huge AOE damage, and who have a way to consistently stun enemies.

Like Tun, Morrison gets great mileage out of attack speed buffs due to how his shock stacks work, and his Colorless Flash means that he automatically goes for the squishiest enemies in the enemy ranks, tying them up and making it more difficult for them to support their allies.

B-Tier

Angel

angel zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:
(Ultimate) Angel’s Judgment

  1. Teleports to the enemy with the least HP, then deals 270% damage to them.
  2. Damage increased to 290%.
  3. Damage increased to 320%.

Continuous Slash

  1. Deals 240% twice to a nearby enemy. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 260%.
  3. Damage increased to 280%.

Protection of Faith

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Battle Angel

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Angel will probably serve as your introduction to the game’s many assassins. Angel’s Judgment has hefty multipliers, allowing it to reliably assassinate unprepared foes, while Continuous Slash deals a huge amount of damage for such a low-rarity unit.

Angel’s passives also let him both stay in battle a bit longer and improve his already formidable damage-dealing capabilities. Angel is definitely worth a shot, especially if you’re in the early game. Don’t forget to replace him with more powerful heroes when the time comes, though.

Delph

delph zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) WINTER IS COMING

  1. Deals 150% damage in a frontal AOE with a 50% chance to freeze for 2 seconds.
  2. Damage increased to 180%.
  3. Freeze rate increased to 60%.

ABSOLUTE ZERO

  1. Freezes 1 enemy for 2 seconds and deals 170% * 2 damage. 13 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 190% per hit.
  3. Now targets 2 random enemies.

Ice Skin

  1. DEF increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%

Ice Shield

  1. Creates a shield with health equal to 100% of Delph’s ATK for the ally with the lowest HP. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Shield health scaling increased to 125% of Delph’s ATK.
  3. Shield health scaling increased to 150% of Delph’s ATK.

That’s not a typo – Delph likes ALL CAPS IN HIS SKILLS. Aside from making them sound more intimidating and also goofy, they’re…not that good, really. If we swapped the guaranteed freeze between ABSOLUTE ZERO and WINTER IS COMING, you might get a more consistent disabler, which is what Delph is.

Despite being a hunter, he’s more of a support character – an offensive support whose main gimmick is a chance to disable on his ultimate. See where this is going? His ABSOLUTE ZERO freezes up to 2 enemies for 2 seconds, sure, but with a prohibitive cooldown of 13 seconds, it’s not going to stick.

Also, like most crowd control characters in games, there’s a better form of crowd control called “killing your enemies before they can do anything”.

Fanzifei

fanzifei zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Frost Dragon Missile

  1. Fires a talisman at an enemy, dealing 50% damage per second for 5 seconds. Each tick of damage also adds 1 slow stack; enemies are frozen if they have 5 slow stacks.
  2. Duration increased to 6 seconds.
  3. Damage increased to 60% per second.

Strike

  1. Deals 220% damage to nearby enemies. Frozen or slowed enemies take 20% extra damage from this skill. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Initial damage increased to 240%.
  3. Frozen or slowed enemies now take 30% extra damage.

Gravity

  1. Deals 180% damage in an AOE at the beginning of combat. Enemies hit by this skill are pulled in front of Fanzifei. 12 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 200%.
  3. Damage increased to 220%.

Chilly Air

  1. Passively increases ATK by 10%. Normal attacks have a 20% chance to add a slow stack to enemies.
  2. Slow proc chance increased to 30%.
  3. ATK bonus increased to 15%.

Fanzifei is a pretty strange hunter that relies on her slow stacking gimmick that eventually freezes enemies. Her ultimate isn’t a nuke; it’s a DOT that also freezes an enemy at the end. Her ATK stat is pretty good, but her skills push her more into the role of a support than a full-on assassin. The main problem here is her Gravity skill.

You don’t want your tanks to be competing with your damagers for aggro duty, and Fanzifei can disrupt her own team as much as her enemy’s. As is, Fanzifei is usable, but will require heavy investment into her unique ability and careful team construction to get the most out of her.

C-Tier

Aerok Warrior

aerok warrior zio and the magic scrolls

Skills:
(Ultimate) Horizontal Cut

  1. Deals 230% damage to enemies in front.
  2. Damage increased to 250%.
  3. Damage increased to 270%.

Strong Stab

  1. Deals 200% damage to enemies in front. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 220%.
  3. Damage increased to 250%.

Warrior Training

  1. DEF increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Apprentice Knight

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

For a low-rarity unit, the Aerok warrior is actually fairly decent. He’s got AOEs – small, but they’re still AOES, and some level of self-defense if you invest in his passives, which you probably won’t. That still won’t save him from being passed over in favor of stronger heroes.

Elf Archer

elf archer zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:
(Ultimate) 3 Shots

  1. Deals 90% * 3 damage to the enemy with the least health.
  2. Damage per shot increased to 100%.
  3. Damage per shot increased to 120%.

Elf’s Arrow

  1. Deals 250% damage to the enemy with the least HP. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 260%.
  3. Damage increased to 290%.

Defense Training

  1. Max HP increased by 5% in battle.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Elf Archery

  1. ATK increased by 5% in battle.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

There’s not much to say about Elf Archer. Her attacks target the weakest enemy, which can be boon or bane based on your formation – but really, I’d take AOE any day. Her low rarity reflects in her stats, meaning that even if she hits thrice, she’s still woefully outclassed by anyone with a higher rarity.

The triple-hit nature of her ultimate also means that she’s penalized more heavily by DEF than other heroes. Her passives are lackluster too. While they are nice, they’re not particularly useful, and will require spending resources for disappointing returns. Use her only if you have nobody else.

Imp

imp zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:
(Ultimate) Continuous Thrust

  1. Deals 250% damage to the enemy with the highest ATK.
  2. Damage increased to 270%.
  3. Damage increased to 310%.

Imp’s Strike

  1. Deals 220% damage to the enemy with the highest ATK and inflicts a -5% ATK and -10% attack speed debuff on them for 3 seconds. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 240%.
  3. Damage increased to 270%.

Naughty Boy

  1. Max HP increased by 5% in battle.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Rough Prank

  1. ATK increased by 5% in battle.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

The Imp is only marginally better than Elf Archer. While his attacks are less penalized by defense, they’re still nothing special. His Imp’s Strike inflicts debuffs, but unfortunately it’s the damage and not the debuff strength or duration that scales with leveling up that skill. Imp can see niche use as a debuffer, if you have literally nobody else to do the job.

Swordsman

swordsman zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:

(Ultimate) Downstrike

  1. Deals 200% damage to nearby enemies.
  2. Damage increased to 225%.
  3. Damage increased to 250%.

Split

  1. Deals 180% damage to nearby enemies.
  2. Damage increased to 200%.
  3. Damage increased to 220%.

Strong Fireball

  1. Passively reduces incoming damage by 2.5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 5%.
  3. Bonus increased to 2.5%.

Swordsman’s Training

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

He’s Aerok Warrior, but with a sword. That’s it. That’s his whole character: decent, but will be replaced very quickly.

Tan Liming

tan liming zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Swordsman’s Swordsmanship

  1. Hits a nearby enemy for 40% * 5 damage.
  2. Damage increased to 45% per hit.
  3. Damage increased to 50% per hit.

Poison

  1. Deals 150% damage to one enemy and binds them for 2 seconds. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 170%.
  3. Damage increased to 190%.

Fierce Swordsmanship

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Swordsman’s Master

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Take Elf Archer’s multi-hit attacks and make them even worse and you get Tan Liming. Is that his name? A title? A mistranslation of “Tam Lin”? And his ultimate is almost as repetitive as the mage named Mage. Whatever the case, this unit somehow manages to be the bottom of the barrel among the generic mooks, and that’s a distinction in itself.

Centaur Elite Archer

centaur elite archer zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Arrow Rain

  1. Deals 50% * 5 damage to the enemy with the highest ATK.
  2. Damage per shot increased to 55%.
  3. Damage per shot increased to 75%.

Wide-Area Arrow

  1. Deals 170% damage in a fan-shaped AOE.8 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 200%.
  3. Damage increased to 240%.

Hawk Eye

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Quick Fire

  1. If Centaur Elite Archer participates in killing an enemy, he gains 2.5% attack speed for 5 seconds.
  2. Bonus increased to 5%.
  3. Bonus increased to 7.5%.

And would you believe it, there’s someone even worse than Tan Liming in the multi-hit department. Maximizing Wide-Area Arrow means using the Elite Archer as a tank, and the damage isn’t that much better than anyone else. Oh, and this guy is rarer than the other mooks above him. Elf Archer’s starting to look pretty good right about now.

Ganzo

ganzo zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Leather

Skills:

(Ultimate) Moon Swallower

  1. Gives Ganzo a 10% ATK, DEF, and attack speed buff for 5 seconds.
  2. Duration increased to 7 seconds.
  3. ATK buff increased to 15%.

Goldsmith – Bondage

  1. Deals 250% damage to an enemy and binds them for 4 seconds. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased.
  3. Also gives the target a 20% incoming healing debuff for 4 seconds.

Leader’s Strength

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Performance of Training

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Joining the ranks of C-Tier hunters is Ganzo, who suffers from low rarity statlines in what might otherwise be an okay kit. While he can self-buff, Moon Swallower isn’t particularly potent on Ganzo even with the 15% ATK buff from maxing the skill out, and Goldsmith – Bondage could have given the enemy a DEF down debuff for faster kills.

But no, it gives an incoming heal penalty instead, no doubt allowing Ganzo to savor the terror of his prey, while said prey is building up their own mana meter for a counterattack. And once again, Ganzo’s skill is lacking information.

We’ll just have to assume that level 2 Goldsmith – Bondage deals more than 250% but less than 300%. It’s a shame since Ganzo almost has a completely coherent kit but is let down by his the secondary effects of his own skills, placing him in the ranks of “replace immediately” heroes.

S-Tier

Hrachas

hrachas zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:

(Ultimate) Infinite Regenerative Power

  1. Hrachas regenerates 5% of his max HP per second for 4 seconds.
  2. Duration increased to 6 seconds.
  3. Heal scaling now increased to 7.5% of Hrachas’ max HP.

Immortal Body

  1. If Hrachas takes lethal damage, he heals to 50% of his max HP and gains a 20% ATK buff and a 30% DEF buff for 5 seconds. This can only trigger once per battle.
  2. ATK buff increased to 25%, DEF buff increased to 30%.

Glutton

  1. Creates a shield around Hrachas. The shield lasts 3 seconds and has 10% of Hrachas’ max HP. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Shield health increased to 12.5% of max HP.
  3. Shield health increased to 17.5% of max HP.

Tenacious Vitality

  1. Max HP increased by 10%.
  2. Bonus increased to 15%.
  3. Bonus increased to 20%.

While Hrachas will win no awards in the offense department, he is very hard to kill. The entirety of demon king’s kit is dedicated to keeping him alive and kicking for as long as possible, which makes him a perfect tank for your squishier backline units. With a huge amount of self-sustain, shields, and a one-time self-revive, Hrachas simply refuses to die and might even be the last one standing in an encounter.

A-Tier

Kenta

kenta zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:

(Ultimate) Merciless Assault

  1. Charges forward, dealing 150% damage to enemies caught in the stampede and stunning them for 2 seconds. After the charge, Kenta returns to his initial position, dealing 160% damage in an AOE.
  2. Kenta gains 10% incoming damage reduction for 4 seconds after using Merciless Assault.
  3. Kenta gains a shield with health equal to 100% of his ATK for 4 seconds after using Merciless Assault.

Battle Instinct

  1. Taunts enemies around Kenta for 2 seconds. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Kenta also gains a 15% DEF buff for 5 seconds.
  3. Taunt time increased to 3 seconds.

Iron Skin

  1. Kenta is immune to status ailments while he has 80% HP or more.
  2. HP threshold reduced to 70%.
  3. HP threshold reduced to 50%>

God’s Creation

  1. If his HP is 30% or less, Kenta has 40% incoming damage reduction.
  2. Damage reduction increased.
  3. Now triggers on 50% or less HP. Damage reduction increased to 50%.

The mighty centaur king Kenta is a very in your face tanker. His Merciless Assault does decent damage as it hits twice and pierces enemy ranks, and it stuns too. A taunt allows Kenta to pull enemies off his allies, while his own status immunity and damage reduction passives make it difficult to shut him down. This regal lord of horses will make a fine addition to any team.

B-Tier

Nyahu

nyahu zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:
(Ultimate) I Will Take It for You!

  1. Taunts nearby enemies for 3 seconds, forcing them to attack Nyahu. Increased Nyahu’s DEF by 10% for 3 seconds.
  2. Taunt duration increased to 5 seconds.
  3. Nyahu also gains 10% damage reduction for 5 seconds when this skill is activated.

Dinner Acquired!

  1. Deals 250% damage to one enemy and knocks them back. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 270%.
  3. Damage increased to 310%.

Devil is Stamina!

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Overcoming Crisis

  1. If Nyahu has less than 40% health, he has 30% damage reduction.
  2. Damage reduction increased to 50%.
  3. Damage reduction increased to 60%.

Nyahu is a tank that doesn’t have any doubts (or delusions) regarding his role in battle. He’s got a taunt with a DEF boost and possible damage reduction, minor control with knockback, and passives that augment his survivability in combat.

His second passive is particularly potent – 60% damage reduction is nothing to sneeze at though you will have to find a way to keep Nyahu’s HP below 40%. Your damagers can only work with a good tank on the field, and Nyahu does a passable job.

Celsius & Fahrenheit

celsius and fahrenheit zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:

(Ultimate) Hellfire

  1. Deals 50% * 5 damage to nearby enemies. Enemies take 30% of Celsius & Fahrenheit’s ATK as burn damage for 3 seconds.
  2. Damage per hit increased to 60%.
  3. Also inflicts a -30% incoming heal debuff for 5 seconds.

Lava Shield

  1. Creates a shield with health equal to 15% of Celsius & Fahrenheit’s max HP. Enemies that strike the lava shield with a normal attack take 30% of Celsius & Fahrenheit’s ATK as damage.
  2. Shield health scaling increased to 20% of max HP. Shield also gives a 15% DEF buff.
  3. Counter damage increased to 40%.

Ignorant Strike

  1. Deals 240% damage to nearby enemies and stuns for 2 seconds.
  2. Damage increased to 260%.
  3. Stun time increased to 3 seconds.

Dull Movement

  1. Evasion reduced by 10%. DEF increased by 15%.
  2. DEF bonus increased to 20%.
  3. Also gives 10% damage reduction.

Nice design aside, Celsius & Fahrenheit are a passable tank. They lack a way to pull aggro, but at least they make up for it in other aspects – a self-shield, passive damage reduction, and a stun that gains duration when leveled up. Improvements could be made here and there, but this two-headed hero (or heroes?) will suffice as a decent tank.

Inca

inca zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:

(Ultimate) Silent Leaper

  1. Deals 50% damage per second for 4 seconds to nearby enemies and reduces their mana by 20%.
  2. Damage increased to 60%.
  3. Mana burn increased to 30%.

Curse of the Flash Helplessness

  1. A random enemy is hit with a 10% ATK and DEF debuff for 5 seconds. 7 second cooldown.
  2. This skill now targets 2 enemies.
  3. ATK debuff increased to 15%.

Inborn Body

  1. If Inca receives damage equal to or greater than his max HP, that damage is applied over 5 seconds instead. 3 second cooldown.
  2. When Inborn Body triggers, Inca also gains a 20% DEF buff for 5 seconds.
  3. When Inborn Body triggers, Inca also gains a 10% ATK buff for 5 seconds.

Price of Curse

  1. Enemies that attack Inca receive a 10% ATK debuff for 5 seconds. 3 second cooldown.
  2. ATK debuff increased to 15%.
  3. ATK debuff increased to 20%.

Inca is one of those characters that was probably better during conceptualization than actual execution. In theory, a tank that relies on debuffing enemies sounds good – IF paired with a way to keep enemies controlled. In practice, Inca respond to enemy actions more than he forces them into attacking him or keeping them controlled.

Inborn Body is a very niche passive that only activates if Inca gets overkilled to ridiculous proportions; if your enemy is doing that much damage, I don’t think any amount of damage mitigation will help you. The rest of his kit is decent enough that I can’t justify putting him in C-tier. Consider yourself lucky, Inca.

Rudemila

rudemila zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:

(Ultimate) Ground Explosion

  1. Deals 230% damage to nearby enemies and stuns for 2 seconds.
  2. Damage increased to 260%.
  3. Stun duration increased to 4 seconds.

Iron Woman

  1. Deals 200% damage to nearby enemies. Gains a shield with health equal to 150% of Rudemila’s ATK.
  2. Damage increased to 220%.
  3. Shield ATK scaling increased to 180%.

Iron Wall

  1. If Rudemila receives skill damage, she gains 10% incoming damage reduction for 5 seconds.
  2. Damage reduction increased to 15%.
  3. Damage reduction increased to 20%.

Magic Armor

  1. Enemies that damage Rudemila lose 10 mana. 3 second cooldown.
  2. Mana burn increased to 20.
  3. Mana burn increased to 50.

Rudemila is a tank who would be great if she had a way to pull aggro to herself. As it is, she’s great at keeping herself alive. She does apply shields to allies and inflicts a very heavy 4 second stun, so she’s not all bad – but there are better choices. Shame, really, the dark knight design was growing on me.

C-Tier

Pilgrim

pilgrim zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Plate

Skills:
(Ultimate) Shredder

  1. Deals 150% damage in an AOE.
  2. Damage increased to 200%.
  3. Damage increased to 250%.

Judgement

  1. Deals 250% damage to one enemy and inflicts a -10% ATK and DEF debuff for 3 seconds. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 270%.
  3. Damage increased to 310%.

Blessing

  1. Reduces incoming damage by 2.5%.
  2. Damage reduction increased to 5%.
  3. Damage reduction increased to 7.5%.

Faith

  1. Heals self for 150% of ATK. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Heal increased to 170% ATK.
  3. Cooldown reduced to 8 seconds.

The Pilgrim is a tank that doesn’t specialize in a particular niche. He has access to an AOE (that doesn’t have crowd control), a single-target debuff, a damage reduction passive, and a self-heal. He’s not bad, per se, but offensive tanks are rarely worth talking about. The tank’s job is to take hits and control enemies, not deal damage.

Torturer

  1. Deals 240% damage to nearby enemies and knocks them back. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 260%.
  3. Damage increased to 280%.

Analgesia

  1. Passively reduces incoming damage by 2.5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 5%.
  3. Bonus increased to 7.5%.

Huge Muscle

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Ah, another tank that doesn’t have a defensive ultimate. Much of what applies to the Pilgrim can be applied to the Torturer, except worse. Due to his low rarity, the Torturer is on the butt-end of tanks. Use only as a last resort.

Rai

  1. Deals 150% * 2 damage to nearby enemies and knocks them back.
  2. Damage per hit increased to 170%.
  3. Damage per hit increased to 200%.

Howling

  1. Deals 130% damage to nearby enemies. Has a 30% chance to stun for 1.5 seconds.
  2. Damage increased to 150%.
  3. Also gives Rai 10% damage reduction for 3 seconds.

Persistent

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Recovery

  1. Normal attacks have 3% life steal.
  2. Life steal increased to 4%.
  3. Life steal increased to 6%.

Not only does Rai not have a defensive or aggro-drawing ultimate, but his stun is conditional at a 30% proc rate. His life steal only works off normal attacks which aren’t that great to begin with. Even his damage mitigation abilities are only active when he does his howl. But hey, at least Rai is consistent with the other lycanthropes – they’re all really bad! So congratulations, Rai.

  1. Heals the ally with the lowest HP for 20% of their max HP. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Also gives the target a 10% DEF buff.
  3. Healing now scales to 30% of target’s max HP.

Entrapping Roots

  1. Binds an enemy for 3 seconds, disabling their actions and causing them to take 10% damage per second. Has 20% life steal. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 20%.
  3. Duration increased to 4 seconds.

Natural Recovery

  1. Diogoram passively heals for 1% of her max HP per second. If her health is full, this will heal the ally with the lowest HP, but at half the rate that it would heal Diogoram.
  2. Healing now scales to 2% of Diogoram’s max HP.
  3. Healing now scales to 3% of Diogoram’s max HP.

She heals, she buffs, she controls the crowds. The green dragon Diogoram does not disappoint, and she’ll be your go-to gal for virtually the whole game, if you have her. Not only does she have those neat tricks up her sleeve, but she also has (and shares!) a passive regen buff, while developing her unique skill also gives her a slowing aura.

Note that her heal scales with the target’s HP, not her own, not with her ATK. This makes her a great partner for hefty tanks like Hrachas, but less useful in the early game where flat healing is more important.

Tomie

tomie zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Marionette

  1. Heals allies for 6% of their max HP per second 5 seconds and gives them a 10% ATK buff for 5 seconds. Also resummons any lost dolls.
  2. Healing duration increased to 7 seconds.
  3. ATK buff increased to 15%.

Remote Control

  1. Controls a random enemy for 2 seconds, dealing 190% damage to it in the process. Controlled enemies will fight for Tomie’s team, cannot use skills, and have 10% increased attack speed. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 220%.
  3. Duration increased to 4 seconds.

Summon Doll

  1. Tomie is accompanied by 2 dolls. The dolls deal 100% of Tomie’s damage, and heal her for 1% of the damage they inflict. The dolls are invulnerable, but die if Tomie’s HP is reduced to 70% and 40%, respectively. Dolls can be resummoned via the Marionette skill.
  2. Dolls now deal 130% damage.
  3. Dolls now heal Tomie for 3% of their damage.

Doll Explosion

  1. Attaches an exploding doll to one enemy, dealing 180% damage and burning 50 mana.
  2. Damage increased to 200%.
  3. Damage increased to 230%.

Tomie is an unconventional supporter that manages to shine in spite of her weird loadout. Unlike Marilyn, Tomie comes with 2 dolls at the beginning of battle that will chip in, essentially serving as 2 extra heroes. Since these dolls are invulnerable, they’ll be doing damage and can’t be stopped by any means unles Tomie herself is hurt.

Apart from this, her Marionette skill is a huge heal/buff for her team, letting her allies stay in the fight longer while improving the longevity of her own dolls. Remote Control also gains special mention for being disruptive, though unlike Narfume, it only targets one enemy at a time. Tomie’s definitely worth a shot if you have her.

A-Tier

Kueno

kueno zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Geistraza’s Blessing

  1. Heals all allies for 5% of their max HP per second for 5 seconds. Gives all allies a 10% DEF buff for 5 seconds.
  2. DEF buff increased to 20%.
  3. HP regeneration increased to 7.5% of max HP per second.

Geistraza’s Touch

  1. Heals nearby allies for 120% of Kueno’s ATK. Allies healed by this gain a 15% attack speed buff for 5 seconds. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Healing increased to 140%.
  3. Healing increased to 170%.

Shield of Faith

  1. 30% Kueno’s overheals are converted to a 5 second shield for the ally that received healing.
  2. If an ally has a Shield of Faith shield, they heal an extra 20% from all incoming healing.
  3. Shields now use 40% of overheal value.

Healing Hand

  1. Heals the ally with the lowest HP for 10% of their max HP. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Healing increased to 15% of max HP.
  3. Healing increased to 20% of max HP.

Kueno is who you get when you decide a character’s entire shtick is healing. Literally everything Kueno does heals his allies in one way or another. That’s not a bad thing since Kueno’s heals also come paired with buffs and he also converts overheals into shields. While his set of heals may seem like overkill, they also make Kueno a dependable healer who’ll handily keep your team topped up in a fight.

Won

won zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Intensive Healing

  1. Links to the ally with the lowest HP for 4 seconds. Linked ally is healed for 60% of Won’s ATK and gains 50 mana per second.
  2. Linked ally also gains a 20% ATK buff while link is active.
  3. Mana recovery per second increased to 60%.

Meditation

  1. Heals in an area for 70% of Won’s ATK.
  2. Healing increased to 90%.
  3. Healing increased to 110%.

Walchevo’s Pilgrim

  1. When debuffed, Won sheds 10% of his HP to immediately remove all ailments on him. 5 second cooldown.
  2. HP consumption reduced to 7.5%.
  3. HP consumption reduced to 5%.

Bright Light

  1. Deals 150% damage to nearby enemies. Decreases their accuracy by 20% for 5 seconds. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Damage increased to 180%.
  3. Accuracy debuff increased to -30%.

Where Kueno goes wide, Won goes tall. Won’s ultimate Intensive Healing grants a massive dose of both HP and mana to an ally, not only keeping them in the fight but also allowing them to turn the tables by granting them mana. I took the wording from the game itself, so I’m not sure if it increases mana by 50 per second or increases mana recovery speed by 50%, but regardless, it’ll provide the linked ally with energy to activate their own ultimate.

Further investing in Won’s unique abilities gives this skill the ability to reduce incoming damage and gain a shield! Won’s not entirely lacking in the area heals department either, with Meditation scaling off his own ATK, and a debuff removal skill that ensures he can’t be shut down so easily.

So who do you use: Kueno or Won? That depends on how you like to play. Kueno is great at healing entire teams while providing buffs, while Won focuses on amplifying a single target and debuffing enemies.

Petnak

petnak zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) High Priest of Time

  1. All allies gain 10% ATK, 20% attack speed, and 20% move speed for 5 seconds.
  2. ATK buff increased to 15%.
  3. Also gives all allies 150 mana.

Priest’s Power

  1. Heals the ally with the least health for 170% of Petnak’s ATK.
  2. Healing increased to 200%.
  3. Also gives the healed ally 50 mana.

Rulus’ Priest

  1. If Petnak loses more than 10% of her max HP from a single attack, she heals for 20% of her max HP per second for 5 seconds. 15 second cooldown.
  2. Healing increased to 30% max HP.
  3. Healing increased to 40% max HP.

Rulus’ Realm

  1. Petnak is surrounded by an aura; enemies caught in the aura have 30% reduced ATK, while allies have 10% damage reduction.
  2. Ally damage reduction increased to 15%.
  3. Enemy ATK debuff increased to 40%.

No, that’s not a typo: Petnak punishes high ATK heroes hard. While it is possible to power through her aura’s debuff, she also gives allies up to 15% damage reduction for an even greater defense. Building Petnak will further reinforce this aura to also lower move speed and attack speed.

Everything else is really just icing on the cake, really. However, of note is Petnak’s ability to generate mana with her ultimate and her auto-heal, allowing her to serve as a battery for mana-intensive teams.

Muzel

muzel zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Angel’s Power

  1. Gives all allies a shield with health equal to 160% of Muzel’s ATK for 5 seconds.
  2. Shield health scaling increased to 210% of Muzel’s ATK.
  3. Also increased DEF of all allies by 25% for 5 seconds.

Chain of Balance

  1. Links the closest enemy with another random enemy. When a linked unit takes damage, the unit it’s linked to also takes 70% of that damage. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Linked enemies take 110% damage.
  3. Links one additional random target.

Angel of Balance

  1. If there are more enemies than allies on the battlefield, Muzel has 15% damage reduction.
  2. Damage reduction increased to 20%.
  3. Angel of Balance now also triggers if there is an equal amount of enemies and allies.

Angel’s Protection

  1. Shields the ally with the least health. The shield has health equal to 180% of Muzel’s ATK. 7 second cooldown.
  2. Shield health scaling increased to 200% of Muzel’s ATK.
  3. Shield health scaling increased to 230% of Muzel’s ATK.

Tactic

Muzel’s approach to healing is “If my allies don’t take damage, I don’t need to heal them”. This small angel is a dedicated shielder who excels at protecting her allies while another healer can keep their HP topped up.

Her unique ability is also a great clutch skill, giving a dying ally invulnerability for 3 seconds – combine her with Hrachas to make him effectively immortal. All in all, the only thing you need to worry about is enemies that get stronger against shields, like Gallistos.

Charles

charles zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Jack’s Bubble Peas

  1. Fires projectiles that knock enemies around, dealing 230% damage.
  2. Damage increased to 250%.
  3. Damage increased to 280%.

Alice’s Wonderland

  1. One nearby enemy receives a 15% move speed debuff and a 10% attack speed and DEF debuff for 5 seconds. 9 second cooldown.
  2. DEF debuff increased to 15%.
  3. Debuff duration increased to 7 seconds.

The Shield That Blocks Everything

  1. Charles shields the ally with the lowest HP for 5 seconds. The shield’s health is equal to 15% of the shielded hero’s max HP. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Shield max HP scaling increased to 20%.
  3. Shield also gives a 15% DEF buff for 5 seconds.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

  1. Traps a random enemy in a magical vortex for 2 seconds. 10 second cooldown.
  2. Trap time increased to 3 seconds.
  3. Trap time increased to 6 seconds.

Charles is an offensive supporter that messes up his enemies by disrupting formations, inflicting debuffs, and trapping enemies. That’s not all he can do though – when his unique ability is unlocked, Jack’s Bubble Peas gains a chance to strip enemies of all buffs, with a 100% chance at max level! This makes Charles a potent threat to any buff-centric composition, and takes pressure off his allies.

B-Tier

Bono

bono zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Rulus’ Pilgrim

  1. Gives 30 mana per second to nearby allies for 4 seconds, and stuns nearby enemies for 3 seconds.
  2. Stun time increased to 4 seconds.
  3. Mana regen increased to 50 per second.

Help!

  1. Allies below a certain HP threshold are healed for 10% of their max HP. 8 second cooldown.
  2. Healing increased to 15%.
  3. Cooldown reduced by 2 seconds.

Coward

  1. Mana recovery increased by 10%.
  2. Bonus increased to 15%.
  3. Bonus increased to 20%.

Rulus’ Blessing

  1. When combat starts, creates a shield that fully blocks the next instance of damage. When the shield is destroyed, Bono will recreate it for 60 mana. 6 second cooldown.
  2. Mana cost decreased to 40.
  3. Cooldown reduced by 2 seconds.

While Petnak and Won can generate mana for your other heroes, they’re healers and supporters first and batteries second. The opposite is true for Bono, who gives a lot of mana but barely provides anything else. His mana regeneration is very nice, but let’s face it: more mana is rarely going to be what decides if a battle is won or lost.

Brien

brien zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) Angel’s Grace

  1. Heals allies around Brien for 150% ATK.
  2. Allies healed by this skill also gain a 10% DEF buff for 3 seconds.
  3. Healing increased to 180%.

God’s Blessing

  1. Heals the ally with the least health for 200% ATK.
  2. Healing increased to 220%.
  3. Healing increased to 250%.

Blessing

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Weakening

  1. DEF increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Brien is like Kueno without his coffee – heals that aren’t overkill, but lack the oomph that Kueno has with his overheal shields. That’s not to say Brien is bad; he (she? I can never tell with angelic types) is a standard healer who does a good job of keeping your team alive. Again though, Brien lacks that special something that separates an okay healer from an excellent healer.

C-Tier

Female Angel

female angel zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:
(Ultimate) Prayer of Healing

  1. Deals 200% damage to a nearby enemy.
  2. Damage increased to 220%.
  3. Damage increased to 250%.

Heal

  1. Heals the ally with the lowest HP for 50% of Female Angel’s ATK. 9 second cooldown.
  2. ATK heal scaling increased to 60%.
  3. ATK heal scaling increased to 70%.

God’s Apostle

  1. Max HP increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Blessing

  1. DEF increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

When the skill called Prayer of Healing doesn’t actually do any healing, you know it’s going to be a downhill slide going forward. Female Angel’s Heal isn’t too effective – it fires automatically, won’t save a hero that’s being pummeled since its multipliers are low, and has specific targeting requirements.

Why she couldn’t have a support ultimate is something I’ll keep asking. Her passives don’t make sense either. Since her ultimate is a nuke and her heal scales off ATK, you’d think she would get an ATK passive. But no, she gets HP and DEF. Female Angel is an absolute last resort “healer”.

Priest

priest zio and the magic scrolls

Armor Type: Cloth

Skills:

(Ultimate) God’s Blessing

  1. Heals nearby allies for 100% ATK.
  2. Healing increased to 120%.
  3. Healing increased to 150%.

Heal

  1. Heals the ally with the lowest health for 150% ATK. 9 second cooldown.
  2. Healing increased to 170%.
  3. Healing increased to 200%.

Apprentice Priest

  1. Passively reduces incoming damage by 2.5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 5%.
  3. Bonus increased to 7.5%.

Prayer

  1. ATK increased by 5%.
  2. Bonus increased to 10%.
  3. Bonus increased to 15%.

Another family member of the mage named Mage, the priest named Priest is a surprisingly decent pick for a starting supporter. His ultimate and second skill both heal your units, and they scale off his own ATK which makes him decent in the early game. With the lack of any major scaling though, Priest will have a hard time keeping up with better healers who can also do buff duty. At least he’s better than Female Angel, though that’s not saying much.

Handpick Your Heroes

That concludes our ZIO and the Magic Scrolls tier list, and hopefully we’ve helped you find interesting and worthwhile heroes for you to pull for or invest in. Unfortunately, Zio and the Magic Scrolls doesn’t have a trial mode for heroes you don’t own, so much of the decisions will need to be made with the data that’s given by the game and compiled here.
