If you are a fan of player versus player warfare, but prefer short, action-packed duels over long, turn-based duels, then War Heroes is perfect for you. This real-time strategy deployment game is all about destroying the opposing team’s bunkers. Before the battle begins, you get to assemble a deck by choosing from over 25 different cards, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. You will then need to outwit and out play your opponent in deploying units and destroying their main bunker within two and a half minutes. Don’t let the deceptively cute graphics fool you. The game is surprisingly in-depth, with dozens of possible team compositions and tactics. You will need to anticipate every scenario and prepare accordingly. If you find yourself struggling to win matches, don’t worry. You can always rely on our War Heroes tips and tricks to help you!
1. A Balanced Deck Is Key
Since you don’t know what kind of cards your opponent will have, the best way to prepare for battle is to build a balanced deck. While there may be some scenarios where a highly specialized deck might work, you have better chances of winning more matches with a well-rounded deck. You don’t want to win one battle then end up losing the war.
A standard deck has 8 cards, with one slot for a General. Make sure you have a good mix of high and low energy cost units. Having too many expensive cards will leave you vulnerable while waiting for energy to build up. On the other hand, you may end up getting all your units killed before they even come close to the bunkers if you use nothing but low-cost cards.
Another thing you should consider is the target type of your cards. Some cards only target specific units. For example, you will be introduced to tanks early in the game. These units only target structures and will be useless against a horde of soldiers. While they can make quick work of your opponent’s bunkers, you can’t fill your deck with just tanks or your opponent will just send soldiers to dismantle them before they can even come close.
2. Upgrade Your Favorite Units
Once you have assembled the perfect team, you will need to upgrade regularly in order to stay competitive. You will need duplicates of a card in order to upgrade it. Opening crates can help you get a lot of cards but you won’t know what you will get, so it may take a while for you to get what you need. An alternative option is for you to check the shop regularly. The shop sells specific cards, but the selection changes from time to time. When you find a duplicate of your favorite card, you might want to splurge a little to get that card as soon as possible. Remember, rarer cards are more expensive. You need to save up a lot, so you will have funds to spend when the unit you are looking for goes on sale.
3. Aim For More Badges
You earn a badge for every bunker you destroy during a match. That means you get three badges if you destroy the two mini-bunkers and the main one. You can also earn three badges in a match without having to destroy all three by destroying the main bunker quickly. The longer it takes for you to destroy the enemy base, the more difficult it will be to get three badges. You need these badges in order to get Badge Crates. Crates contain random cards and other goodies, so make sure you get as many of them as you can!
4. Read Up On Your General
Generals are special units that have unique abilities which can be used in battle. While all General skills are useful, you will need to understand how each one works in order to maximize your winning potential. The best thing you can do is to build your deck around your General’s special ability. For example, if you pick Roscoe Rock, you will want a lot of cards that target buildings. His skill automatically deploys a seeker every time you deal 33% damage to an opponent’s structure. Using cards that target structures will help trigger Roscoe’s skill sooner.
5. Try Different Strategies
War Heroes starts you off with a basic deck that can be useful for the first part of the game. You will need to continuously tweak that starter deck as you acquire more cards. Whenever you get a new card, don’t be afraid to play a few experimental matches with that card in order to fully understand how it works. You might be pleasantly surprised to find a new card that fits your strategy perfectly. Seeing cards in action is the best way to gauge whether or not they suit your play style.
6. Take Out The Weakest Link
Each side has three bunkers. If you look closely, the right bunker is only made up of sacks with a couple of soldiers standing behind it. This bunker has the lowest HP, making it the easiest target. As we mentioned above, destroying the opponent’s main bunker quickly will help you get three badges in a match. If you prioritize taking out the weakest bunker, you have better chances of ending the game sooner. Have your units push on this lane then drop a tank behind them to deal some major structure damage.
7. Stay On The Offensive
Don’t wait for your opponent’s cards to drop in the hopes of playing the perfect counter. Instead, you should start dropping the hard hitters as soon as the match begins since you have full energy. If you are able to play a card first, your opponent will end up scrambling to defend. This will allow you to control the pace of the battle. Depending on your opponent’s response, you can either pile on in the same lane, or surprise the opponent by dropping more units in the other lane. Keep your opponent on the defensive, so they won’t have time to counter your attacks.
8. Practice In Single-Player Mode
War Heroes has a solo campaign called Battle Drill. Before you head out into player versus player battles, try to play a few Battle Drills first. This will help you get acquainted with the game’s mechanics without risk of getting wiped out by a veteran player. This is a good way for you to experiment with card combinations and other tactics. Don’t underestimate the drill instructor, though. The battles in Battle Drill can be just as tough as real matches, so always play to win.
9. Advance Your Territory
When you destroy a mini-bunker, your territory will advance towards your opponent’s side, allowing you to drop units closer to the main base. Try to advance your territory before dropping slower units. Slow units are usually heavy hitters, but they will most likely end up dying before reaching the enemy bunkers. You want to be able to drop them as close to the bunkers as possible in order to maximize their potential.
10. Don’t Forget To Defend
While it is a good idea to continuously attack your opponent, that doesn’t mean you should neglect defending your own bunkers. Support cards and ground-targeting units are perfect for defending. Area damage cards like the Grenadier can make quick work of marauding enemy troops. Plop one down behind a mini-bunker to have it obliterate incoming attackers before they can even come close to your base. Dropping the Grenadier behind your mini-bunker will allow the unit to freely hit your opponent’s troops while they are attacking base. Since bunkers have higher HP than troops, it will be able to survive the attack while you counter.
11. Know Your Crates
There are several kinds of crates in the game. While opening any crate will give you rewards, you still need to know which ones to prioritize. It takes time to open a crate, so it is better if you can open the more important ones first. We have listed the different types of crate below, so you can have an idea of which ones are the most important.
