Mighty DOOM Beginner’s Guide: Tips, Tricks & Strategies to Become the Ultimate Demon Slayer

The DOOM series of games is considered by many as among the best and most influential FPS franchises of all time. Spanning numerous games, each with multiple variants or editions, and being available for different gaming platforms, the franchise’s popularity led to its inclusion in different toy lines, a series of novels, and even a live-action movie. Suffice it to say, even gamers who have yet to dive into any DOOM game should at least be familiar with the name or even know what the Doom Guy looks like.

Mighty DOOM stands as the first DOOM title specifically designed for mobile gaming platforms, perfectly encapsulating the action and thrills of hunting down and blasting through hordes of demons while employing a simple control scheme and gameplay mechanics most suitable for casual mobile gamers. As a top-down shooter, however, Mighty DOOM proves to be one of those adventures that are easy to pick up and enjoy but rather very challenging to complete.

With auto-fire always on for your main weapon and a simple tap-and-drag control scheme to move your Mini Marine about, Mighty DOOM makes it fairly easy for even complete beginners to make it past the initial stages with just quick and simple guides. From the first boss battle onwards, however, you will start to feel the tip of the growing challenge that lies ahead of your long journey.

If you happen to have already started your adventure in Mighty DOOM or are about to do so and want the best set of tips, tricks and strategies to jumpstart your demon-slaying crusade and start dominating every challenge across every level, then look no further as our Mighty DOOM Beginner’s Guide has everything you need to do just that!

1. Master The Basics

Mighty DOOM is indeed as straightforward as it gets and while it has been immensely simplified compared to other incarnations of the game, there are still a couple of concepts that you need to understand and master to ensure an efficient rate of progression throughout your adventure.

As far as controls are concerned, even utilizing just one finger to move your Mini Slayer about should suffice, and note that the virtual D-pad adjusts its location on where you choose to tap and hold on your screen. For the best results, though, we recommend using both hands, keeping the other ready to utilize your secondary and tertiary weapons as needed.

One of Mighty DOOM’s core features that every player needs to capitalize on is the auto-fire feature. Surely enough, you can appreciate not having to smash a fire button just to shoot at every enemy in sight. With infinite ammo on your side, you only need to keep enemies within your line of sight to damage them and range is not even a concern. The arena can be expected to have walls and other sorts of obstacles to block your line of sight and enemies in flight or have shields that cannot be normally damaged.

There are currently 10 worlds to beat in Mighty DOOM and these worlds can be categorized into 2 types. The regular ones are worlds 1 to 4 and 6 to 9, each with 40 stages to beat. In these worlds, stages can be randomized but every 10th stage will always be a boss battle and the bosses are the same throughout each run, which means you can study them more thoroughly with each new run. Stages 5, 15, 25, and 35 will offer free boosts as well.

Worlds 5 and 10 in Mighty DOOM only have 20 stages to beat. While it may seem shorter at a glance, each stage will host 5 waves of enemies and every 5th stage will be a boss battle as well. Every other stage will also give you free boosts just like in the regular worlds. These boosts are limited though in that it will either be an option to increase damage or recover lost health. Aside from boosts, you will also encounter NPCs that offer boos and curses tied up together. Boons work as buffs while curses serve as debuffs that counterbalance benefits you earn.

mighty doom wave 1

To move onto the next stage or wave, you need to kill every enemy and also head towards the top end of the level. Every enemy killed has random drops, which can be EXP to level up your marine within the stages, or items you get to take with you after you finish your run. The maximum level to reach within the stages is level 11 and a random perk can be earned with each level up. These perks, like the marine level in the stages, will reset with each new run.

As far as loot goes, Mighty DOOM provides you with a lot of upgrade materials at the end of each run, depending on how far through the world you have reached. You can also earn coins, gears, Slayer shards, and keys that unlock crates from the shop, with the latter 3 being rare finds. More importantly, every run you earns you EXP for your account level, and this is very important as this caps how far you can upgrade your marine and how many mastery rolls you can purchase.

You have a maximum of 20 energy that starts replenishing when consumed and every run you engage in will consume 5 energy. Be warned that quitting any time during the run not only forfeits all the loot you have earned so far but also the energy you spent at the start of the run. It takes about 30 minutes to replenish 5 energy so we recommend expending all your energy and taking a long break afterwards.

2. Test Weapons Out And Find Your Favorites

With random elements attributed to each run through the sequence of stages and the drops, topped by randomized perks you can acquire with each new level reached, Mighty DOOM’s simple gameplay mechanics ensure a different scenario with each run.

Beyond all that, the qualities and abilities attributable to each piece of weapon and armor you acquire also greatly extend the adventure’s replay value. Although you may easily become comfortable with the initial set of weapons and gears you obtain, we recommend testing each different piece of weapon you acquire to ensure that you find the one that best suits your preferences and play style.

mighty doom primary weapon

There are 4 types of weapons to collect and equip in Mighty DOOM and trying to mix and match different choices for each type can lead to the ultimate build for your Mini Slayer. The primary weapon is the weapon that is always on auto-fire. The secondary weapon needs to charge after use but it is more powerful than the primary weapon by default. The ultimate weapon takes a lot longer to charge but is the top tool of destruction in your whole arsenal. Finally, you also have a launcher that is also on auto-fire but will not shoot as often as your primary weapon.

You will start with the Heavy Cannon as your primary weapon and while as basic as it comes, the array of perks you can unlock within the stages for the weapon can make it an easy favorite for most players. The Shotgun naturally starts with a spread shot and while its fire rate is a lot less than the Heavy Cannon, it is the preferred primary weapon for slayers that enjoy getting closer to their targets. The Chain Gun and Burst Rifle also has some interesting features and respective strengths to consider. It is also important to note that each primary weapon has an elemental affinity enabling them to deal more damage to specific enemy types.

It may take you a while to get fully accustomed to using your secondary weapon especially if you tend to become too immersed in the battles you engage in. These weapons can be very instrumental to your survival and success in each run so always be conscious of their availability and utilization. The Rocket Launcher stands as the most basic secondary weapon and deals high burst damage to a target.

Although it only has 1 shot by default and would have to charge up again for the next use, the perks you can unlock within the stages make it capable of having multiple shots and even the ability to home in on targets. The Gauss Cannon, Ballista, and Mega Shotgun each have their distinct features and strengths as well and you would want to take them out for a spin and see them with perks activated to determine which one is the best for you.

For the ultimate weapons, the Chainsaw is the best for players who want to get up close and personal with demons while the Unmaykr is preferably utilized in mid-range, given that its default triple shot has a spread trajectory. Again, ultimate weapons also have specialties in dealing specific types of damage on top of their intrinsic features so be sure to test each one on the field.

Launchers are the weapon types that do not have features as distinctive as the other 3 weapon types. All launchers are projectile types and what makes them unique from one another can be primarily attributed to their elemental attributes. Like all the weapons, though, each one will develop differently based on the available perks for them that you can unlock as you progress through the stages.

3. Upgrade Gears With Some Prudence In Mind

While the perks you choose to arm yourself with as you reach new levels within the stages cost nothing, every permanent upgrade to your slayer and his set of 8 weapons and gears has costs. In addition to familiarizing yourself with each weapon for added proficiency in combat, another reason you should test each weapon out is to determine which ones will become your priorities as far as upgrades are concerned.

For the slayer, leveling him up costs coins and while you will have an abundance of this basic currency, needing them for every other upgrade will drain your reserves faster than you earn them if you do not exercise control on spending. Surely enough, upgrades are needed and cannot be avoided given that each higher stage and each new world you traverse will have tougher foes waiting for you.

However, an important consideration to keep in mind is that resources invested into weapons and gears should help earn you more resources as a result on top of beating more stages and worlds.

This means that while you get to keep upgrades you spend coins on, a wiser course of action means spending those coins on gears you need and use in battle. Choosing a favorite among each weapon type leads to having a top priority for each weapon type. As far as utilization is concerned, you should naturally prioritize your primary weapon over all other weapon types. This is because primary weapons are the most used weapons across every battle.

On top of spending coins, upgrading weapons and armor also consume upgrade parts. Each weapon has a unique upgrade material, meaning that every primary weapon, for example, has its exclusive upgrade item. For the launcher and armor parts, though, each variant uses the same resource. Each run you complete earns you plenty of upgrade materials but you can expect that every higher upgrade level will require more coins as well as more upgrade materials needed.

Although we recommend prioritizing your favorite primary weapon when it comes to upgrades, it does not mean that you will have to forego upgrading any other piece of gear in your arsenal. Given that higher-level gears cost a lot more to upgrade, efficient use of your resources means that you should consider spreading some of it out to the rest of your weapons and gears. By spreading out, we mean still choosing 1 from each specific type of gear.

4. Save Some Coins For Other Upgrades

As can be expected from adventures with random loots and gacha mechanics, Mighty DOOM also has rarity grades attributable to the gears that you collect. Gears may be common (White), green (Uncommon), blue (Rare), or purple (Epic). Naturally, the chances of obtaining higher rarity gears are smaller as the rarity line goes. Although there are chances of obtaining uncommon and higher rarity gears through the adventure and rewards, do not feel bad if most of what you get is of the lowest grade.

Mighty DOOM provides a means of obtaining higher-grade weapons and armor items and this is done through the fusion feature. In your inventory that can be accessed through the gear icon at the bottom of the screen, there is a “fuse” button just to the right of the inventory above your gear. This will have an indicator whenever you have items that can be fused. Fusion requires 3 copies of the same gear and you will also need to spend some coins to fuse items.

While upgrading gears increase damage for weapons and increase either damage or health for armor pieces, a higher-grade gear will have much better stats. Additionally, a gear’s max upgrade level is also dependent on the gear rarity. You can only upgrade a common grade gear to level 20 and each higher rarity grade increases the level cap by another 20. Ultimately, you can upgrade an epic-grade gear to level 80 although you can only imagine how much that would cost in terms of coins and upgrade materials.

Though there are also other slayers you can unlock and use in Mighty DOOM, you will most likely be stuck with the Mini Slayer for a long time given that some characters can only be obtained through spending real money, while the rest requires collecting a lot of shards, requiring a lot of luck and grinding. As you expend energy and proceed through campaign or event runs and reach new levels, your account level becomes the level you can upgrade your slayer to.

Upgrading the slayer only costs coins and each level up increases his stats. On certain milestones, additional perks can be unlocked as well. In all honesty, playing as a different slayer would be cool but the Mini Slayer you have at the start of your adventure has a unique ability that can randomly let him instantly kill an enemy, boss demons excluded of course.

Finally, another important upgrade option to save some coins for is mastery. There are 7 masteries in Mighty DOOM and while the Starting Ability will always be the first upgrade, the succeeding points will randomly be invested into 1 of the 6 different masteries. In essence, this will lead to a different build for the slayer from one player to the next. Like the slayer’s level, your mastery level cap is also dependent on the account level, and with every new level reached, we recommend spending coins on the slayer and the mastery first before anything else.

5. Play Defensively

The overall theme of Mighty DOOM, despite the cartoony graphics, can easily encourage players to proceed through the campaign and special missions with a fit of rage on slaying demons. While even the music seems to inspire a fast-paced run-through across every stage, the important point to consider in every run is that you have a health bar and you are vulnerable, and there are no time limits within which you must complete your run. In this sense, and most especially as a beginner, the best strategy is to be very careful and take things slowly.

mighty doom defensive tactics

Playing defensively is not just limited to how you choose to behave within the stages. A large chunk of this is attributable to the abilities you choose with each level up. Categorically, the random abilities that pop up within the stages are classified into 3 main types.

The red abilities relate to your weapons and all these abilities are focused on improving offense. Green abilities are directed towards the slayer and while a lot of these perks can be considered as boosts for offense, some can be attributable to defense as well. The blue abilities, which are fewer compared to the first 2 are defensive and recovery abilities. In stages where you get free boosts, the first choice will always be a green ability that relates to damage, and the second choice will always be health recovery.

mighty doom ability selection

Demons can be staggered and staggered ones are as good as dead already. However, one of Mighty DOOM’s unique features is that you can move toward a staggered enemy and perform a Glory Kill. Glory Kills can be fun to execute if you like cartoony gore but more importantly, performing Glory Kills will have the demon spew out drops that can recover your health. As you would naturally want to have perfect health as much as possible, you should always push to execute Glory Kills when an opportunity to do so presents itself.

mighty doom glory kill

Glory Kills not only help you survive longer thanks to the health drops you gain from fatally executing a demon, but you are also temporarily invulnerable while performing a Glory Kill. A perfectly-timed Glory Kill can help you avoid taking damage from enemy shots and, with some ability upgrades, Glory Kills can also become a tool for damaging other nearby enemies.

Keep in mind, however, that there is a time limit within which you must perform a Glory Kill on a staggered enemy. The countdown timer is the bar encircling the staggered enemy, which lasts for about 5 seconds. Although a green arrow will appear underneath you pointing towards staggered enemies, keep a look out for enemies with a green glow as well as this indicates that they are staggered and awaiting your glory kill.

A good strategy, relative to avoiding damage in Mighty DOOM is keeping a close eye on your slayer and everything that comes close to him. You always know that there are still enemies on the stage if he is still shooting anyway, so avoid some distractions that can take your eyes away from your slayer longer than it should. You can always choose to pause the game if your hands are tired and hitting the pause button at the upper left side of the screen will also show you the list of abilities you have acquired throughout your run.

6. Take Time To Observe Boss Behaviors

Mighty DOOM is a game of patience as much as it is a game of strategy and skill. Choosing the right gears and choosing the right abilities to pick up can go a long way but in the toughest of times, you will also have to rely on patience and dodging to survive and get past the most challenging stages. The boss battles can be considered by some to be on a whole other level and if you have already faced the first boss in stage 10 of the first world, then you already know what we mean.

mighty doom boss behavior

There is a plethora of boss demons you will face in Mighty DOOM. Some of them, like the first one, can be compared to boss enemies in bullet hell shooter-type games where you hardly have any room to maneuver whenever the enemy is shooting at you, or most of the screen for that matter. Some boss enemies will not rain fire on you but will have their special way to make going past them an arduous feat. Some may choose to always try and close the gap between them and you while some have defensive capabilities like shields or flight.

In any case, instead of attempting to beat an enemy boss on your first encounter, you should first take the opportunity to get to know them better, particularly what they can do. As the boss stage will always be a clear, open field with no obstacles, simply focusing on dodging can win you the match thanks to auto fire.

7. Partake In Every Special Event

Each day of the week, Mighty DOOM provides players with a special event to break the monotony of the usual campaign runs. After all, the number of repeat runs needed for you to just make it through all 40 stages of the first level will already be a very challenging endeavor. Special Events can also be quite challenging in that while they can help you earn specific rewards, some modifiers give gameplay a unique twist.

mighty doom events

Event levels can expectedly be shorter than any of the campaign levels. However, the presence of modifiers can make them equally or sometimes even more challenging, and extra preparations are required. To be sure, always remember to click the information icon on the event to view details of the modifiers present, and always make it a habit to consider the most suitable set of gears for each one.

8. Accomplish Missions And Claim Freebies

Despite the lengthy road to travel as you pursue more resources, better gears, and farther-stage accomplishments, every run you engage in earns you some rewards, some more than others depending on how far you have reached thru the level. There are outright rewards in the campaign stages and there are also milestone rewards for beating every 10 stages of each world or each 5 for worlds 5 and 10.

mighty doom stage rewards

In addition to these rewards, Mighty DOOM provides some extra rewards and freebies for you to enjoy and help lessen the grind for resources. There are daily login rewards but there are plenty more to acquire especially for the active slayers. One set of these extra rewards can be earned through the Daily Missions feature, which you can access via the mission icon on the right side of the main screen.

mighty doom daily missions

Daily missions are not to be perceived as an extra layer of challenges that you need to overcome. Instead, each mission objective directly relates to the usual activities you should engage in and, to some extent, can be considered as a guide toward progression. Daily missions naturally involve targets like slaying a certain number of demons and upgrading a piece of equipment and the more challenging missions will simply require you to deal specific damage types in battle, necessitating the use of gears you may have kept idle.

Every objective you accomplish earns you points and points accumulated earn you rewards at the top of the page. Though most of the rewards are coins, an important one you should always aim to get is the equipment key as every chance to obtain new gear should be pursued. In any case, you can never really have more than enough coins in Mighty DOOM as well so be sure to earn all daily mission rewards as much as you can.

mighty doom crates

Within the in-game shop, you should consider claiming the free crate and free coins. All it takes to do so is to play a 15 to 30-second video ad for each one. The crate can net you a common gear and although these gears are at the bottom of the rarity list, you will come to appreciate getting one daily given the difficulty of doing so anywhere else. 2,200 free coins are well worth a 30-second ad as well.

One feature you should also keep close tabs on is Vega Mining. You can access this feature through the circular icon at the upper left side of the main screen, just below the gear icon. The Vega Mining lets you earn EXP and coins idly in Mighty DOOM and you can also play an ad boost here to increase both the coin rate and EXP rate earned. Although you can also spend crystals to activate the boost, we recommend saving all your crystals for crate and equipment box keys for high-grade weapons and gears.

Likely, more features and challenges will still come to Mighty DOOM in future updates and we are also fairly certain that it would take some time for anyone to beat every stage currently available in the game. We hope that the collection of tips and strategies we shared with you in this guide will prove to be instrumental to your adventure. If you happen to come across some more tips or tricks in Mighty DOOM that you would like to share, feel free to drop them down in the comments!
