Clash of Beasts, Ubisoft’s highly anticipated strategy game for mobile, has finally landed on the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
Developed by the company’s Abu Dhabi studio, Clash of Beasts is an unusual blend of tower defense and conventional strategy that sees you commanding titanic 3D monsters in visually spectacular battles against human players.
Storywise, you’re playing as a mercenary who travels to the New World to join his mother, fellow mercenary Lara Molorn.
Unfortunately, the reunion ends in tragedy after Molorn is abducted and ritually sacrificed by Gideon Morvus, a terrible villain on a mission to obtain Beastmaster Sparks – the mythical power to control titans.
Morvus must be stopped, and you’re the Beastmaster to do it.
The gameplay sees you summoning beasts with Soulstones before training them up at your base and sending them into battle.
After every fight you’ll earn rewards like XP, items, and in-game currency. You need to plough these resources into upgrading your beast army, before sallying forth into battle once again.
There are several different types of battle, including PvP, Kingdom War, Clan War, and PvE. Beasts, meanwhile, come in 65 different forms, all with their own skills, spells, classes, and affinities.
To give yourself a tactical advantage you’ll need to combine these affinities to best effect, capitalizing on their various synergies. You’ll also need to examine your opponents’ setups before attacking, to ensure that you’ve got the right combinations going in.
Of course, you’re also going to be on the receiving end of attacks, meaning you need to fortify your base with twelve different towers. Like beasts, these towers have affinities that you need to factor in.
They have a diverse array of powers, too, from straightforward ballistic assault to debuffing enemy spells and stunning attackers.
There’s a lot to weigh up, making Clash of Beasts one of the most promising mobile strategy games we’ve come across all year.
