The 10 Best Android Platform Games in 2017

Each year we receive more and more mobile games, so many in fact that finding the best ones is becoming harder and harder. And that’s especially the case on Android since the Play Store is swarmed with tons of new games every week. In order to make your continuous search for quality games a bit easier, we decided to curate a list of best platformers on Android in 2017.

Platform games are easy to play, and are perfectly suited for touchscreens. They are here for decades, and some of the most popular titles ever such as Mario Bros., Sonic The Hedgehog, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Castlevania, and many more are platform games. If you want to discover fun and quality platform experiences on Android you’ve come to the right place.

Our list is filled with quality titles that guarantee dozens of hours of fun, especially if you like to jump, run, and explore interesting worlds. Most of these games are free-to-play, but some are paid titles. While there are lots of free gems in the Play Store, there are awesome paid platformers that definitely deserve your attention. Some are classic platformers, others are endless runners, and some fall in between, combining the best features of multiple genres. So, let’s find out which Android platform games deserve your attention in 2017.

10. Meganoid

Meganoid

Meganoid is a Metroidvania platformer for Android that looks incredible and offers endless, procedurally generated levels. OrangePixel’s game offers colorful pixel art graphic style that is pleasant to the eye, but not resource demanding. You must take your character through various levels while avoiding numerous traps and other dangers, and while killing various enemies.

The game is pretty tough and challenging and will test your skills on every move, so be careful while playing. There are many cool boss battles, lots of different gadgets to collect, and incredible variation when it comes to level design.
You can upgrade your weapons and equipment, find alternate routes, collect useful items that change the way enemies and traps work and much more. The only weak side are controls, but when you get used to them, Meganoid will become one of the best experience you had on your Android device, ever. And the best of all, the game is completely free to download and play.

9. Super Mario Run

Super Mario Run

Although, many believe that Super Mario Run isn’t among the best games on Android, we have to disagree. The game managed to reinvent one-touch controls, and it’s one of the most fun games available. Super Mario Run features cute art style, easy-to-learn gameplay, various enemies, and exciting levels.

The game has a simple formula in which Mario has to collect all coins while running forward, and all you have to do is to make him jump and right times. Sure, some will say the game is too short but perfecting each of four free levels will take some time.

While the game is free to download, you will have to pay a bit in order to unlock all the levels, but even the free version can offer a couple of hours of an interesting combination of endless runner and platform game. In a nutshell, if you love Mario games, you will love Super Mario Run!

8. Power Hover

Power Hover

If you’re looking for an exciting, fast-paced, and challenging endless runner, Power Hover is one of the best titles available on Android. It isn’t a classic platform title, meaning you won’t jump around, but it has all the best features you’d expect from a good platformer. Power Hovers provides fast-paced action, increasingly harder levels, a need for constant focus, which is a real test for your reflexes.

The story is pretty straightforward. You play as a robot who has to catch a villain who’s taken all of the batteries needed for keeping the city powered. And that’s it! The game features excellent visuals and an awesome soundtrack, that will keep you satisfied for a long time. While the first eight levels are free, you’ll have to pay $2.29 to unlock the rest. Well, that’s not too bad since you will have a couple of hours’ worth of content with the free version.

7. Super Dangerous Dungeons

Super Dangerous Dungeons

Super Dangerous Dungeons is probably the best retro platformer on Android. It combines classic run and jump gameplay with extremely cute retro art style, interesting levels and various challenges. The goal of the game is to find keys that are scattered through numerous levels and unlock doors that take you further into deadly dungeons while avoiding dangerous traps, deadly pits, and many other challenges. Every level ends with your character getting hold of some valuable treasure and the goal is reaching the last room that holds a legendary treasure inside.

The game is pretty tough, but the feeling when you finally manage to reach the end of a level is worth the trouble. Super Dangerous Dungeons isn’t for everyone; if you don’t like your games challenging, then maybe it’s better to skip it, but we must advise everyone to at least give it a try, because it can be incredibly fun to play. The game is free to download, but it comes with ads that can be removed with a one-time purchase.

6. Sword of Xolan

Sword of Xolan

Sword of Xolan is a pixel-art platforming marvel. It is a game that looks simple but provides plenty of challenge. There are lots of levels with a number of different enemies to fight against, and while it doesn’t require light speed reflexes, it will put your skills to test.

This isn’t a fast-paced game, but it requires a lot of thinking and precise control of your character. There’s a classic life gauge that empties after your character gets hit a couple of times, but with careful planning and avoiding tougher enemies, it can be played without getting frustrated by its difficulty.
While Sword of Xolan isn’t one of the most original platform games available on Android, the title manages to perfectly combine interesting exploration with a fun run and jump gameplay along with superb boss battles. There are dozens of levels available, and the game is completely free (with the option of paying a buck to get rid of ads), guaranteeing hours and hours of fun.

5. Sonic the Hedgehog™ Classic

Sonic The Hedgehog Classic

A cult classic, the first Sonic game was (and still is) among the best platform games ever released. It is a high-octane platformer filled with exciting levels, tough enemies, excellent old-school visuals and lots of fast-paced platforming.

You can play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles (a feature that wasn’t available in the original release), to defeat the evil Doctor Robotnik. This game is perfect for all platformer fans since it offers some of the best levels we ever saw in the genre.

The visuals aren’t really top notch, but if you like the vintage looks, Sonic the Hedgehog™ Classic is a perfect game for you. It offers hours of fun and it isn’t one of those games that don’t offer a healthy amount of challenge. The game will test your reflexes so be prepared to really sweat in order to finish it. Jump, run, fly, and enjoy the beautiful world of Sonic the Hedgehog on your Android device, for free!

4. Chameleon Run

Chameleon Run

If you don’t mind spending a couple of bucks ($2.19 to be precise) on a mobile game, then Chameleon Run is a perfect choice. This is a combination of an endless runner, which isn’t endless, and an exciting platformer, that manages to hit just the right chords, providing players lots of fun while keeping them glued to the screen.

The premise is simple; you control a color-changing character that can jump up and down while traveling at a frantic pace though various levels. Yes, while it looks like an endless runner, it really isn’t. Each level in Chameleon Run is filled with yellow and purple (or is that rose?) platforms, and each time you jump, you can switch your color. Each level features three different objectives making levels replayable, and adding more content to the game.

You can jump with your feet, or with your head, and the game can be pretty tricky at times, especially in later stages when you must switch colors every second while trying to avoid black platforms and collect all the crystals. The game is bathed in colorful graphics that just screams quality, and it should become a permanent addition to your phone’s gaming library.

3. Downwell

Downwell

Downwell costs $2.99 but is definitely worth it since it won’t distract you with ads nor with in-app purchases. This game is a unique platformer, that puts you in the boots of a young boy who has to reach the bottom of the well while having only his gunbots to protect him.

The levels are filled with various dangers and lethal enemies that can be killed with the help of gunbots that can be upgraded and that offer plenty of firepower. The game features unique black-and-white art style with only red color thrown in the mix making for a pleasant change in the sea of same-looking games.
You can buy new items, get new weapons and upgrade them while trying to reach the bottom that keeps immense treasures. The game comes with simple and intuitive controls that don’t require a lot of time to get used to them, and each time you get killed it is game over. The good thing is that every trip down the well is different so you won’t get bored easily. Downwell is a nice game that doesn’t cost much while offering dozens of hours of fun times!

2. Cosmo Race

Cosmo Race

A unique combination of racing and platforming with the cute art style, fast-paced gameplay, and multiplayer element, Cosmo Race is one of the best new games available on Android at the moment. NANOO’s game brings you immersive multiplayer battle arena racing, but you can play against bots to practice and hone your skills. The game is built around closed arenas in which you are pitted against five other players in frantic races to the finish line.

Your racer is running at a steady pace, and all you have to do is tap the screen in order to jump, but that sounds way easier than it is. Since the game is multiplayer-based get ready to face fierce competition, but the good thing is that other newbies are also kind of bad (and the game pairs you against players of similar skill) so the beginning won’t be as tough as later stages, once you level up a couple of times.

The races are extremely exciting and include plenty of obstacle-avoiding along with collecting power-ups that, if triggered at the right time, can mean the difference between victory and ending the race in the last place. The game is free to play and doesn’t require any in-app purchases, and it’s one of the most original platformers available for Android devices.

1. Rayman Adventures

Rayman Adventures

Rayman Adventures is an incredibly fun platform game from Ubisoft featuring superb graphics and lots of levels to beat. The game is a part of the Rayman series guaranteeing wacky characters and enemies along with the over-the-top action. Rayman runs forward while you have to make him jump on enemies and over various obstacles. Also, you have to collect lums that enable you to unlock new characters, and if you want a perfect score you have to collect them all, which can be pretty hard, but that’s okay because it can be fun to replay a level that you already beat but missed a couple of lums.

The game is filled with interesting levels, and it really is a joy to play. You can unlock new characters from the Rayman universe and hatch eggs that help you by giving you unique bonuses. The game is free to download and can be beaten without paying a dime, just be ready for some grind. It is still among the best platform games on Android constantly receiving new features and levels, making it a perfect choice for your next platform adventure.

Rayman Adventures comes with a fast-paced gameplay, filled with extremely well-done platforming , but at the same time the levels are relatively short, making it a perfect pastime while waiting for a bus, or for late night fun when you just can’t get yourself to fall asleep. Download this one, and you will have dozens of hours’ worth of fun!
