Sonic CD Tips, Cheats & Tricks: 4 Hints You Should Know

Sonic CD is SEGA’s latest mobile offering based on the popular Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and you can now download it for your iOS or Android device. In this game, Sonic will be heading to the distant shores of Never Lake, where he shall be preparing for the “once-a-year appearance of Little Planet.” This is a world where past, present, and future collide thanks to the Time Stones within it, and Sonic’s job is to harness the Little Planet’s power and travel through time, battling the evil Dr. Eggman, preventing him from destroying the future, and destroying his machines in the past to recover the Time Stones.

If you remember the last time we covered a Sonic game, you will remember that these games have a lot for new players to pick up, and a rather steep learning curve compared to other arcade games. But you have to remember that this is a Sonic the Hedgehog title, and a game that’s best-suited to those who expect more from their arcade titles than minimalist endless gameplay. That said, here are some Sonic CD tips and tricks that could make the learning curve less steep for those who may have downloaded the game for the first time.

1. Make Sure Sonic Has At Least One Ring

If you want to keep Sonic alive for quite some time in this game, you will need to make sure he’s got some rings handy with him. Sonic will lose those rings once he gets hit, but the good thing is that you can collect them again and get back as many rings as possible. Sure, there’s a chance you won’t get all of them back, but having some of them is better than having none at all. Still, even if Sonic does have rings, he’s not exactly immortal – he will die right away if he falls into a pit.

We’ve got a bonus tip for you within this one, and it’s based on the fact that Sonic WILL get killed once he doesn’t have any rings and gets hit. You can keep Sonic alive by making sure he has at least one ring (or only one ring) on him, and that you get that ring back ASAP in the event you get hit.

2. You May Sometimes Have To Slow Down

Sonic the Hedgehog is expected to go fast most, if not all of the time. That, after all, was what made him such a popular video game character back in the day, and it’s still a treat to watch him go as quickly as possible. But you will also have to change gears from time to time, so to say. Slow down and focus more intently on the screen if you have to, because you might need to pull off some fancy moves so you can make it to the next platform without falling to your death. Going fast will only kill you in those cases, so slow down when needed.

3. Take The Special Stages Seriously

Sonic CD wouldn’t be a Sonic game if it didn’t have special stages. Yes, this game has them, and you will get to play them once you’ve collected at least 50 rings after completing an act. Look for the giant ring at the end, and jump through it so you can play the special stage. You will then be switched to third person view, where your goal would be to get all the rings before the timer expires. As Sonic will be moving constantly, it will be your job to move him around. Make those movements precise so that he can collect all the rings and get to the Chaos Emerald.

4. How Do The Power-Ups Work?

The levels come with several power-ups, and we shall be running them down and telling you what each of them does. The blue orb will allow you to get hit without losing your rings. Temporary invulnerability is just that – you can take hits and kill enemies once you hit them, though once again, you can still get killed if you fall into a pit. The speed shoes are probably best left alone if you’re a newbie – they allow Sonic to go faster, but also require you to pay closer attention and make more precise platforming moves.

As a bonus tip, you can use these power-ups when dealing with the bosses. Each boss has a specific pattern that you can figure out over time, and once you’ve figured that pattern out, you’ll know which power-ups to use at any given time.
