Pokémon GO Tips: How to Get Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mew and Mewtwo

There’s no stopping Pokémon GO as it continues its run as the most popular app (and not just game) on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Even with the weekend having brought some outages due to the intense load put on developer Niantic’s servers, a lot of players are still crazy about this title, and more than willing to head out to those PokéStops, while hunting for new Pokémon and hatching their eggs. But how do you get your virtual mitts on those Legendary Pokémon? As the name suggests, these are very rare Pokémon that will likely be hard to come by, and you’ll need to do certain things in order to catch them and add them to your collection.

Yes, there are tons of people gathering at their nearby parks, smartphones in hand and minds set on the ultimate goal, which is finding more Pokémon, including the legendary ones. So with that said, we’d like to help you beat out most of the game’s other players in your neighborhood, and help you catch some of the Legendary characters included in the game. Read on for our Pokémon GO strategy guide for hunting Legendary Pokémon, and you just might find one of them on your roster in due time.

1. General Tips To Catch Legendary Pokémon

When trying to catch Pokémon of Legendary rarity, there are some general tips that you may want to follow. Right now, it’s best to hang on and hope that Niantic and Nintendo launch some sort of special event that would make these Legendary creatures available for catching. There’s a good chance they’ll have some event in store each month, not to mention the chance of new product releases related to the Pokémon franchise. The latter events could very easily be sweetened with some rare character being made available.

Aside from waiting for events, you can also use your Great Balls, Ultra Balls, and Master Balls – in order of rarity and power, these are your rarer balls that are capable of catching rarer Pokémon with greater efficacy. You’ll definitely want to bring ample supplies at any one of those special events.

Additionally, you may or may not be familiar with the mobile game Ingress, and in case you’re not, that’s the name of Niantic’s last big title before Pokémon GO. These Ingress events allowed players to battle it out to gain control of a city, and also let them compete for earning Legendary characters. And since players are divided into three factions, with Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres representing them in these battles, you might get one , two, or three of those birds as a reward. You’ll always want to choose Pokémon with high CP, or combat power, for these battles, as well as the aforementioned events.

2. Can You Find Mewtwo In Times Square?

There have been rumors floating around about Mewtwo roaming around in Times Square. But are these rumors accurate, and should you trust them, assuming you live near the Times Square area? For starters, this rumor is based on an old Pokémon GO trailer that had a group of players showing up in Times Square, and Mewtwo appearing on their phones. These players were able to collaborate in an effort to catch Mewtwo, with their efforts paying off in the end, but unfortunately, that was only a trailer.

According to Niantic, there have been no instances of Mewtwo being sighted in the wild, and as far as Legendary Pokémon go, there haven’t been any valid ones either, regardless of character. Niantic, after all, needs to manually spawn these Legendary characters, so it will all depend on when Niantic has those characters ready and completed. And, just for the sake of discussion, Articuno has been allegedly sighted by one player, while Zapdos and Mew have yet to be (purportedly) spotted.

3. This Non-Legendary Character Has Not Yet Been Added

This character is not a Legendary, but nonetheless we’d like to mention him due to his unique status – he has not been added to the game, but Niantic has written his source code into it. We’re referring to Ditto, who has not yet been added to Pokémon GO, making him the only non-legendary Pokémon whom nobody has caught yet. As Niantic regularly updates the game, we’re quite optimistic we will be seeing Ditto make his debut on Pokémon GO in the near future. And you can count on us to talk you through the things you need to do in order to spot him, and hunt him.
