Genies and Gems may seem like your average Match 3 title – you’ve got the gems, you’ve got the quirky characters (Jenni the genie and Trix the fox), you’ve got availability for both Android and iOS devices. But like in other Match 3 games, SGN has included enough elements to make this game relatively unique compared to other titles in this very popular genre. The game allows you to recover relics, gold bars, and enchanted keys, and you’ll also have to avoid cursed stones and free caged gems. (Okay, the latter isn’t exactly unique, but still.) There are also bandits you have to worry about here, as they’ll be going after your treasures.
SGN isn’t saying how many, but the company claims that Genies and Gems has hundreds of levels. Want to complete more of these levels and three-star as many of them as possible, potentially all of them? This could be your lucky day, as we’ve got some pretty cool Genies and Gems tips and tricks for you. Go check them out below and you’ll be three-starring more levels in no time.
1. About The Special Pieces
The special pieces in Match 3 gems do generally the same or similar things, but in the best interests of filling you in further on the game, we’ll discuss them individually for you. A match of four pieces in a row gives you a Line Breaker, which takes out a horizontal or vertical line depending on how you made the match. You’ll know you’ve got one when they fire off a beam matching all the pieces in the horizontal or vertical line. A T-shaped match gives you an X-breaker, which takes out pieces in an X formation. An L-shape match creates a special breaker, which match all pieces in their vicinity. And when you match five in a row, that gives you a rainbow gem, which you can then match with any other gem so you can take out all the gems of that color.
Summing it all up, you definitely want to create as many special pieces as possible, not only for clearing out the board faster and using less moves, but also for getting some of the more difficult to reach paws on the board.
2. How Do Butterflies Work?
Butterflies are the game’s equivalent to free paws when matches, so you will also want to catch them if you see them. Sometimes, the paws will be prevented from being matched as usual, so there may be some cases when exclusively going for the butterflies and matching them would be your best strategy.
You can also make your own butterflies if there aren’t any present and you’re dealing with some hard to reach paws. Matching in a square formation converts the pieces into a butterfly piece, which should be great if you’re trying to make a match in a tight spot on the board.
3. Don’t Rush Your Moves
This is quite a basic tip that you probably know if you’ve been playing Match 3 for a while – there are no time limits in most of these games. Make the most of your moves and make the most of the fact that there aren’t any time limits. Rushing your moves could mean wasting them, so analyze the board and don’t make any rash decisions.
