DragonVale World Ultimate Guide: 12 Tips & Tricks You Need to Know

DragonVale World is the latest title in a genre we haven’t really covered too often as of late – the dragon training genre. This game is the latest one in Backflip Games’ DragonVale franchise. There are more than one hundred dragons for you to collect, and just as you normally would, you’ll have to build a park for those dragons and manage your visitors. Enchantment spells can change how your dragons look and perform, and the game also allows you to trade with players from around the world. As for other features in this game, you can take part in limited-time events, and take off in the all-new Airship to discover new in-game locations and reap some nice rewards.

How can you collect more dragons, particularly the ones classified as Rare, Epic, or Enchanted? How can you train them properly, and cast the right spells? And what can be done to manage your dragon sanctuary and make sure that people visit it? We hope to have those questions and more answered in this DragonVale World strategy guide.

1. Create More Habitats

In the early stages of the game, it will be important to create as many habitats as possible. But beyond creating those habitats, you should also fill them up with dragons ASAP. Of course, you’re going to be starting out small, with one dragon post habitat, though that’s going to allow you to collect as many coins as possible whenever you leave the game for one reason or another. At that point, your options will be limited; your choices will be limited to one dragon per type of common dragon. Still, you can breed new dragons with combinations of the existing ones you’ll have at the start. And as a helpful pro-tip, always remember that rarer dragons always take longer to breed and hatch than the more common ones.

2. Keep Breeding

As this is a dragon training/breeding game, we’re probably preaching to the choir with this one. But we’ll mention it in any case, because it’s very important, and it’s the foundation of the game. Just as we said in the above tip, you can take two common dragons, such as the ones you may be starting with, and breed them to create a new dragon. But you should be breeding as many of them as possible at the same time, and regularly return to the game (as long as you’re not sleeping) so you can collect the new dragon once the breeding is complete. After that, you can try more combinations in hopes of unlocking more dragons.

The topic of which dragons can be created from specific combinations may deserve a separate list of tips on its own, but since we’re dealing with general tips and tricks here, what you basically want to do here is to have some form of breeding going on at all times.

3. Upgrade Your Habitats

Going back to habitats, it’s also essential in this game that you’re upgrading your habitats on a regular basis. That’s going to allow you to store more dragons per habitat, and you wouldn’t need to be as busy creating habitats as you may have been at the start of the game. You want to increase the available space you have, as free space will often be a problem for you in the game. Once you reach the level that lets you work on the next habitat upgrade, work toward upgrading all of them at the same time.

4. Complete More Goals And Achievements

You know the deal with “goals,” right? These days, they usually come with another word before it, and a hashtag before that first word. So how about some #DragonGoals in DragonVale World? In all seriousness, the Goals tab will show you a list of objectives you can complete, with rewards including additional food and Dragoncash. You can also go to the Wizard Hall, which comes with a list of achievements you can unlock. The difference between goals and achievements is that the former may only be available for a limited time, while the latter is static. But in both cases, you can accomplish these things simply by playing the game like you normally would.

5. Buy New Decorations In The Shop

Eventually, you may run out of goals to prioritize, and you may not have any buildings or habitats to work on. You also may be fresh out of food, and without a single obstacle to clear. These are all problems that could compromise your ability to earn experience points, but you can work around them by going to the shop and buying some decorations. Contrary to their reputation as decorative pieces that only work on an aesthetic level, decorations can earn you XP, with the more expensive ones adding more XP to your total.

Once you’ve bought the decoration, you can go ahead and sell it right away to earn back some of your money. Just keep repeating this process if you’re trying to farm for experience points.

6. The Basics Of Food

You can’t expect to have a formidable stable of dragons in DragonVale World if they’re always going hungry. Like any living creature in the real world, dragons need food to survive, and there are different food types available to you in this game. These food types may differ in the time it takes for them to grow. Take those foods that take a while to grow, and plant them right before you head off to bed. Once you wake up, they should be ready for harvesting.

7. Get Social

It’s optional, but highly recommended that you connect your game to Facebook. If you’re looking for free gems, which are the game’s premium currency, you can ask gems from your friends, while you gift them with some should they ask. The more friends added to your game, the more gems you can earn for free. With more gems means more progress, and you can get things done faster and even get access to some of the game’s exclusive premium features.

8. Spells Are Important Too

At first, it didn’t seem like spells were as important as the game’s description made them out to be. But as it turns out, spells ARE important, and they provide a myriad of benefit to players. For starters, they can cut down on your breeding times, and earn you more substantial bonuses. Spells won’t come cheap in many cases, but they will often turn out to be worth it for more reasons than shorter breeding times. As we’ve observed, parent dragons can allow their babies to inherit their spells with a little bonus – oftentimes, we’ve seen offspring dragons get upgraded stats along with their parents’ spells.

9. Get Even More Gems With These Dragons

DragonVale World has the Wisteria and Deadwood dragons, and these two are special because they actually produce gems for you, all for free; this also applies to Enchanted versions of Deadwood dragons. Progress won’t be very fast at first, as they will only produce one gem per day once they’re starting out at level 1. But as you level them up, they’ll produce more gems per day, and those gems are really going to add up. Make sure you prioritize having at least a couple of these dragons in your park at the soonest possible time. And log in daily so you can get one as part of your daily bonuses; otherwise, you’ll have to pay big-time at the in-app store if you want a Deadwood or Wisteria dragon.

If you’re curious when these dragons become available as a daily bonus, it happens once you’ve collected a total of 20. You’ll be asked to choose one or the other, but either way, you’ll have a gem-producing dragon free of charge, a dragon you should regularly be upgrading.

10. Stockpile Both Food And Gems

We talked in brief about food earlier in this guide, and we’ve already given you a couple gem-related tips. Now we’ve got a tip that deals with both these resources, as you will need to have a generous reserve of both food and gems. For the former, you’ll need some emergency munchies for your dragons in case an Airship arrives. Normally, when the Airship passes by, they’ll ask you for food or for a specific dragon, and as you can see, it’s the food that appears to be the much better option. Gems, on the other hand, can be used to spin the Reward Wheel, which could give you a chance of winning an Artifact. It takes 100 gems to spin the wheel after your free spin is done, so take note of the five-day interval in between free draws.

11. Take Part In The Weekend Events

If a lot of days in the week don’t seem like a good time to be playing DragonVale World, make sure you’ve got at least some free time to spend on weekends. That’s when the game launches its special, limited-time events, which may vary in nature depending on the week, but are all highly-recommended to any player. Typically, you’ve got three stages per quest in these weekend events, starting off from a very easy stage, but progressively getting harder as you move from stage to stage. The rewards you can win by completing these events can come in handy on many occasions, and you might even end up with some premium currency.

12. The Airship, Gathering, And The Crafting Mechanic

Last, but not the least, let’s move on to a tip about the Arcane Airship, which we briefly mentioned earlier. The Airship will ask you to send it a number of crafting materials, and if you provide those materials, you’ll earn some nice rewards.

Gathering materials in the game only works based on a particular dragon’s element, so when it comes to sending off dragons to go gathering, you should choose the one whose elements match those needed to gather a specific material. Higher-level dragons also bring back higher-quality rewards, as well as more chances to earn additional resources, and a potential Reward Wheel spin that also comes free of charge.
