Combo Critters Guide: 4 Tips & Tricks to Conquer the Universe

Combo Critters is a pixel art style adventure RPG developed by Lucky Kat for iOS. It is an adventure game that is really similar to Pokemon, basically you venture through different areas and battle exciting looking creatures. Although, in Combo Critters there is one important twist, that you can combine any two critters you want to create an entirely new one. The new critter’s stats will depend on which critters you used to make it.

This creates a surprisingly deep collection system as there are a large variety of different critters you can mix and match. Which also means that team composition plays an important role in how you approach battles. Not only that, you have a limited amount of coins that you can spend on combining critters so you need to strike a careful balance between battling and creating new critters.

So without further ado, read on for the best Combo Critters tips and tricks for collecting every combo critter you can!

1. Consider Your Combos Carefully

As mentioned above, the main premise of the game is that any critter you collect can be combined with any other in order to create a new one. Often times this new critter will be quite strong, but the special stats of the critter actually depend on which two critters you combine in the first place.

Also, you have to keep in mind that not every combination of critter will yield a unique one, sometimes combining two different critters will create one that you have already seen before, or even that you have in your party. The key is to always look at the preview window first so that you don’t waste any coins on creating useless critters that you already have.

When you are creating a new critter you won’t know what it is going to look like. But what you will see is the stats that it has. Which will usually just be the health and the damage output. Sometimes the new critter you create will not always have better stats then the ones you already have. The really good critters will have better health and damage, but most of the times the critters will either have better health or worse damage or vice versa. This is not necessarily a bad thing however, because it leads into the next tip, which is about team composition.

2. Manage Your Team Effectively

The battles in Combo Critters are quite fast paced and you will need a good team in order to do well against the many foes that you will be facing throughout your journey. But how do you create a good team?

As was hinted above, critters in Combo Critters generally fall into three categories: high health, high damage, or high damage and health. Ideally you would like one of each on your team. The high health critter will be able to absorb most of the damage the enemies are outputting. And the high damage critters can jump in to finish of the weakened enemies.

If your team has too many critters who don’t have enough health, then you won’t have the survivability to continue on throughout the fight. Because as you continue playing combo critters, the enemies you face begin to output significant amounts of damage. So it is imperative that you have at least one critter with a large health pool. But generally these critters don’t do much damage either, so don’t have a team with only high health critters or you won’t have enough damage to end the fight in a reasonable amount of time.

3. Use Your Critters And Battle Well

The bulk of your time in Combo Critters will be spent battling with random critters that you find in the wild, wandering around. Generally, you will only fight them one at a time, but as you progress through the game, you will begin to have to fight multiple critters at once, which means that you’ll need a good strategy.

Critters, in addition to their regular attacks, also have bonus attacks which can be activated to deal massive damage. To activate them you will need to click the button and do a series of moves in order. But these attacks will only be available after you attack an enemy critter three consecutive times. Therefore, it is not a good idea to adopt a switching strategy, where you constantly switch between different critters. Although this does vary your damage output it doesn’t allow any of your critters to charge their special attack, which means you are missing out on a lot of damage.

Also, when you battle it is always good to let the critters with the most health battle first, then once they have used a special attack you can change to a critter with higher damage output.

4. Keep Your Coins Under Control

The final tip here is about resource management. The only resource you have to manage is the amount of coins you have, but they can evaporate surprisingly quickly if you are not careful. This is because coins are used to heal your critters after battle, and are also used for combining them.

So how do you make sure that you don’t spend too many coins? Well one way is to make sure that you take advantage of different bonuses. There is a daily gift that you can (and should) get, which will give you some critters or a load of coins for you to use. Next are the video bonuses, like with every mobile game on planet Earth, if you choose to watch a short advertisement then you will be rewarded with some coins. These two ways (besides battling) are the easiest way to fill up on coins.

Healing your critters is unavoidable and must be done to make sure you can continue to win battles. But for combining critters you don’t need to combine too many at once, because this will significantly diminish the amount of coins you have. It’s tough to notice at first, but combining multiple at the same time will lead to you running out of money.
