Candy Crush Jelly Saga Tips, Tricks & Strategy Guide to Become a Match 3 Master

You can argue that Match 3 games never get old, and they seldom ever get tiring. The logic behind these games is very easy to figure out – even a young child can become an expert at these titles. And they make for great time-killers for players of all ages – they can test your logical skills as you try to finish a board in as few moves as possible. That said, the company that made Match 3 gaming a phenomenon is back with another Candy Crush game – Candy Crush Jelly Saga. And just as you may expect, King has released this game for Android and iOS devices alike.

Well, maybe it’s not an entirely new game at this point, but just as a refresher of its features, you can play more than 100 levels, take part in new game modes such as Spread the Jelly, Release the Puffers, and the Jelly Queen Boss Modes, and make use of new boosters or power-ups. You’ll also meet the Jelly Queen and her “stooges” as far as new game characters go. So now that you know what’s the deal behind this game, let’s not waste any more of your time and bring you an exclusive list of Candy Crush Jelly Saga tips, tricks and strategies for all players.

1. Expect More Of The Same Special Pieces

The special pieces that you may know from the original Candy Crush remain present in this game, and if you’re new to the series, we’ll happily enumerate them for you. Matching four in a row will create a striped candy that could clear a horizontal or vertical line depending where you play it for a match. Matching four in a square-shaped formation creates a fish, which takes out another square if matched next to it. Matching five in a T-shape creates a wrapped candy that takes out a good part of the board by exploding when matched.

Matching five in a row creates a spotted candy that removes all candies of the same color it’s matched with. It also turns all matched colors into wrapped or striped candies if matched with one. Lastly, you can create a glass sweet by matching six in a row; this changes the color of sweets you match it with.

2. Learn How To Spread The Jelly

The original Candy Crush was all about clearing candies, or pieces on the board, but Candy Crush Jelly Saga comes with a distinct twist you will need to get used to. The objective here is to actually spread the jelly around the level; this is done when you match with candies that already have jelly on them. Always remember this so you don’t end up treating Candy Crush: Jelly Saga like you did Candy Crush.

As a bonus piece of advice, we would strongly warn you not to spread any of the Jelly Queen’s jelly, as that could get you into serious trouble.

3. Take Your Time And Have A Plan

Other Match 3 games have added the element of time to the levels, requiring you to finish one within the allotted time. King has never done that in Candy Crush, and isn’t doing so in Jelly Saga, so you can take as much time as you need and focus instead on completing a level in as few moves as possible. Look at your board and start planning before you go play the level. It always pays to be prepared.

4. Make Matches From The Bottom

This is a general rule that applies to many Match 3 games, including King’s Candy Crush titles. And it does still apply to Candy Crush Jelly Saga, as making matches at the bottom of the board, or at least close to it, gives you a better chance of creating more special candies when candy falls from the top of the screen.

5. Save The Fish For Tight Situations

In the first tip, we told you about the fish, a.k.a. Jelly Fish, which can remove a difficult to get candy on the board if you play them in a match. We would advise you not to use the Jelly Fish until the later stages, when your moves become more precious and it becomes more difficult to reach certain pieces. Jelly Fish, as a reminder, are created when you match four pieces in a 2×2 square.

6. Already A Candy Crush Player? You Get A Reward

If you already play Candy Crush/Candy Crush Soda Saga on your device and had previously connected your game to Facebook, you’ll have a prize waiting for you now that Candy Crush Jelly Saga is out. Check your email and you’ll see a notification from King advising you that you’ve gotten a 50 gold bar bonus to your name. Normally, gold bars are available at a small price on the in-app store, so 50 gold bars for free does mean something.

7. Focus On Your Strategy

Another difference between Candy Crush Jelly Saga and previous titles is that there is deeper strategy involved in order to beat a level. You’ll be dealing with boss characters, and you’ll often find yourself constrained by the moves you are limited to make. We advise thinking more ahead of a level and making your moves more meaningful. The old tactic of randomly, arbitrarily matching candies just because you see a match is essentially over.

8. Meet The Pufflers

We did say above that Candy Crush Jelly Saga comes with some new characters, and that list of new characters includes the Pufflers, which are tiny caterpillars that can be found underneath the frosting on levels. Your goals would include freeing the Pufflers, though that’s a task that is easier said than done. Once you crack the frosting, you will see one of their heads or tails. But try catching them and they’ll quickly move to another part of the level.

What you can do is to watch how the frosting moves in order to predict the movement of the Pufflers. Catching them may be hard, especially during Boss Mode, but be prepared and take note that you have to catch them and not let them get away as they’d be wont to do.

9. Return Of The Ticketing System

King removed the ticketing system on Candy Crush Soda Saga, but for Candy Crush Jelly Saga, it looks like they’re back with a vengeance. Some have reported seeing a balloon with three icons on Level 41, which would require you to ask tickets from your Facebook friends so you can continue. Yes, it may be hard, what with so many people uppity about receiving game requests (we know how it feels), so make sure you’re asking tickets from someone who plays Candy Crush Jelly Saga.

10. You Don’t Need Facebook Friends To Gain Lives

Speaking of Facebook friends, King has made a key change to the social mechanics in Candy Crush Jelly Saga; it is no longer necessary to have Facebook friends playing the game so you have someone to ask for lives. The game has a new matchmaking system where you’re teamed up with random people from around the world, allowing you to give each other lives even if you aren’t friends on Facebook. Always remember that if you ask for lives and get some, be there when those random players ask for them; it’s good gaming etiquette, of course, to return the favor.

11. Dealing With The Boss Mode

One of the more interesting new features on Candy Crush Jelly Saga is Boss Mode – in here, you need to beat another character to win the level. To cite a couple examples, that could mean you’ll need to be first to spread a certain color jelly over more of the level, or probably asked to find so many Pufflers before the other character does. You’ll still be constrained to a certain number of moves, and that’s where the bulk of the challenge lies.

Some general tips that could work well in Boss mode include stunning the enemy by creating a special piece – that’s going to give you an extra move – or creating three special candies in a row to make the move after that especially deadly. In relation to those two tips, check the top of the screen to see if the opponent has notified you that they’re about to pull off a special move. Also, focus on removing the frosting when tasked to find Pufflers.

12. How To Defeat The Jelly Queen

The Jelly Queen levels will require arguably the most strategy, as that’s where you will be battling the game’s main antagonist. Your goal is to spread more jelly across the level than the Queen, with each of you taking turns and following the same mechanics as standard boss battles. Again, making as many special moves as possible is key to beating the Queen, and you will need to map out your plans especially well in these levels. Also, don’t play any one of the Queen’s colored candies, as you might end up helping her defeat you!
