Age of Empires: Castle Siege Tips & Strategies: 5 More Hints to Lead Your Empire to Glory

As we mentioned in the first part of our Age of Empires: Castle Siege strategy guide, this is a game by Microsoft that first arrived for Windows PCs and Windows Phone handsets, but is now available for iOS devices, namely the iPhone and iPad. As another reminder, the game is part of the legendary Age of Empires franchise and is a city-building strategy game in a similar vein to the PC titles in that series. That means you choose your own civilization, build your base, recruit troops and heroes, and upgrade whenever possible.

If you’re looking for an extra edge against the enemies, we talked you through five tips in the first part of our strategy guide. Now, let’s go through five more Age of Empires: Castle Siege tips and strategies, most of which are more advanced than the ones we had told you about in the first installment.

1. Choose Your Heroes Wisely (Tier 2)

In the first part, we mentioned Tier 1 hero Belasirius (Byzantines) as a particularly useful hero, as he can destroy an enemy’s walls from within. But what about the other heroes from the other tiers? John Kourkausas is another Byzantine hero, and is great for defensive purposes as a “tank”-type character; his health starts at over 20,000, and that figure increases to 30,000-plus when he’s leveled up to Level 4. Henry V represents the Britons for Tier 2, and he can cripple enemy towers for a brief period of time. Lastly, Rurik represents Kievan Rus, and his specialty is dealing a lot of damage to single targets, particularly towers or keeps.

2. Be Familiar With Your Heroes’ Special Skills (Tier 3)

Your Tier 3 heroes, as you may surmise, are far more impressive than those in the first two. For the Byzantines, Nikephoros II Phokas has high health and works in a similar way to a trebuchet – his special ability is shooting projectiles extremely quickly. Edward the Black Prince is the Britons’ Tier 3 hero, and he’s best used when taking down towers. The Franks’ Joan of Arc converts enemies to join your side. The Kievan Rus’ Alexander Nevsky has a flame-throwing giant catapult that works great when damaging buildings close to each other. The Saracens’ Saladin is another good hero to use when destroying towers due to his great range. Lastly, the Teutonic Order’s Winrich von Kniprode deals the most damage against multiple buildings that are close together, as well as towers.

3. Move On To The Next Age Quickly

Don’t dilly-dally – advance to the next Age at the soonest possible time. Doing so will allow you to unlock more roads and more walls, thus allowing you to bolster your defenses.

4. Prepare An Action Plan When Attacking

Take stock of your strengths and weaknesses before attacking. Going back to the first two tips, it pays to know your heroes’ capabilities. And if you believe you don’t have much of a chance to win, it’s best to just skip the battle and pick another one that will give you a chance to win. When attacking, you should aim first for a single wall, then target the towers that may deal the most damage against your troops.

5. Join An Alliance

Need help defending yourself against enemies? The best thing to do is to join an Alliance in order to get help from members should your base be under siege.
